Just back from our third stay at The Joiners Shop. It has been as lovely as always. It is positioned very well in the village. Its a good place to sit in peace and watch the world go by. We will be back again soon.

The location and views are like being in a painting. Sitting on the patio with full sun looking over the estuary with children playing in the water. Amazing. The property is lovely. Well equipped and also has an iron, we was told it didn't so bought one! Bed a little small but I am 6 ft 2 so ok for most. Great stay and will be returning to Staithes.

What a fantastic place. The cottage is a triumph for the owner. A stunning property with a stunning view. Everything that we needed after a this dreadful year. Warm, cosy, clean, and every utensil you could think of. We loved the cottage and Staithes so much we rebooked for next year while we sat on the patio eating the best brownies from the cake shop next door.

We've been to Staithes many times but this was the first time we've stayed in The Old Joiners Shop as we only required space for two this time. Perfect space, clean, comfortable, cosy and very well equipped. It is an amazing transformation from an old workshop and the fact that a few things from the workshop have been displayed is a lovely touch. Great spot to watch over the beck. Thank you to the owners for the gift, most appreciated. We liked it so much we've already booked again.

We returned for our 2nd stay here. This time in May 2019 and for 2 weeks. The old joiners shop is really a gem of a place. Please see my previous review for this place that I left after my first visit. We have plans to return for a 3rd time. The place as ever is Cosy, comfy and bright. We had fantastic weather allowing for lots of swimming, and exploring. We sat on the terrace quite a lot this time and watcher people pass by. I painted (Watercolour) whilst Sat on the terrace and had so much inspiration from there. The accommodation has everything you need. You feel like you're in a log cabin but a plush one. Looking forward to our 3rd time here in a few months time.

The Old Joiner's Shop is a brilliant place to spend a relaxing break in a beautiful part of the country.. The property certainly qualifies as an "Amazing Space", being small but having everything you need for a self-catered holiday. The clever use of every bit of space means there is ample storage without feeling cluttered. The location is ideal for exploring the coast in either direction, and Staithes itself is a lovely place to spend some down time. If there is any down side it is the climb up and down the steep hill to the car park, but then the lack of cars makes for a sense of peace and quiet (other than the seagulls). We will definitely recommend The Old Joiner's Shop to friends and family, and would love to return at some time in the future.

A fantastic property beautifully restored with plenty storage space.. It had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. The location was great and we had a really relaxing break. I would not hesitate to recommend this property.

We went here for our honeymoon after getting married two days earlier.. Amazing little cottage the conversion is amazing. As a person who dabbles in DIY the space has been so well used. Its not a big space but we knew this already and it was such a lovely clean environment to be in space wasnt an issue. The fire is amazing. The bathroom is well laid out and spacious. The bed was comfy and as cold as it was in December we didnt feel it at all. Well Done on the conversion lovely place. We hope to be back soon.

First impressions were very good and on the whole were fulfilled.. However, there were three disappointments. The main one is that the mattress on the bed is of poor quality and past it’s best. This was disappointing in a property portrayed as one of high quality. We found this mattress was most uncomfortable. The second was that the cooker hood fan doesn’t work. The light worked so the hood is powered but the fan function did not. Finally there was a lot of fluff and dust behind the sofa and table when we pulled this out to use. Of the three items we have mentioned the mattress would put us off returning to what is otherwise a delightful place to stay.

Great accommodation and great location in Staithes.. However, the information should be clearer about parking. Parking is free 24/7 from Nov to March in the council car park at the top of the hill. I have already recommended it to several friends and would love to go again soon. Had a great time.

Old Joiners Shop is a fabulous property, well designed and equipped, in a great location.. Coastal walks right from the door, views over the beck, very peaceful, choice of pubs and coffee shops, a deli and a butcher that also sells newspapers. the only drawback is having to leave the car at the top of the hill. Would definitely recommend this property, and stay there again.

We are on our 4th night in the Old Joiners work shop. I can honestly say we've thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The old joiners workshop is a bijou but well thought out self catering place with an open plan layout and open terrace with seating available. The shower is of decent size and nicely tucked away in the private bathroom. There is lots of storage on offer for your clothes, coats and bits n bobs. The kitchen is well thought out and boasts all the things you'd need for your stay including scales, sieve and decent cooking pans. The views are wonderful, views over the Beck and down to the Harbour. It's quiet here, fresh and unique and everyone has been so friendly. The Old Joiners shop has been intricately thought out, the workmanship is admirable and the lighting adds ambience....lots of choice of lighting. But I must clear 3 things up that other reviewers have been negative about: 1) "No Cutlery" - really??? In a self catering place one would determine there is no cutlery? This comment tickled me but also annoyed me as I feared it would put others off. I can confirm there is Cutlery here and plenty of it. So no need to whip out your own cutlery drawer!!! Just perhaps look a little further and think outside the box and you'll find it. 2) "The mattress is of poor quality & uncomfortable" - OK. Just hear me out. There's 1000's of mattresses on the market right? And we all have different needs and requirements for a mattress, right? Gary has clearly put a lot of effort into this place and planned everything. Do we really think he'd create such a unique place and then stick a "past its best" mattress in it? I don't think so. There is no way one mattress will suit all, but surely we bare this in mind when travelling?! I have issues with sleeping due to cancer treatment and I am very particular about my bedding and mattresses and have the highest quality at home, but I can confirm most days I slept to 9-10:30am and slept like a log. 3) "Parking" - Why anyone would draw attention to this knowing full well when they book ANY place in Staithes that there is no parking for non residents in the village and you therefore have to leave the car at the top of the hill. It's very clearly mentioned in the advert for this place and about Staithes. We have found its a positive thing to not have the car, it's forced us to relax and not galavant about. Granted the hill is steep but it takes less than 10 minutes to walk up it and that's coming from someone who's had chemo, has asthma and is more tired than usual. Things and places to try in Staithes itself: • Cod and Lobster. We are here 4 nights and had fish of some sort each night. We even met the fisherman who caught my Lobster that day. Great food. Pub grub. Friendly staff. Great for allergies. • Betsy and Bo. Great for posh pasta meals to cook from home. Sweets and I mean proper sweets and homemade chocolates. • Dottys Tearoom. We had a cream tea here and it was lush and the staff were so friendly. It also has vintage keepsakes too. • The Harbour. Walk too and around the Harbour of Staithes. From both sides, so Cowbar and Staithes itself. But check the Tidal times or you'll get stuck. Take a walk down in winter at about 5pm and listen to the immense sound of the waves. • Wonder the sleepy streets of Staithes. Outside of Staithes: • Whitby. Great for gifts, lunch out and a wander. • Robins Hoods Bay. Great for a wander and for those appreciating Architecture and design. The buildings are quite special. • Sandsend. An absolutely gorgeous little village. Pretty and very aesthetically pleasing.

As a couple who often travel to different places within and out of Europe this was without a doubt a standout location. The old joiners cottage was magnificent with its quirky timeless interior with a new twist on it making it feel like a home away from home so much so that we didn’t want to leave. We would without a doubt return back to the wonderful land of staithes and stay in this beautiful cottage, it had all you would need and more and situated right in the heart of its stunning landmarks. Worth every penny. From returning after a long walk along the cliff side taking in the fresh air back to a cozy humble abode this little hidden gem is a unique find that isn’t to be missed. 10 out of 10 from us! xxx

Staithes is a very beautiful village which is part of a lovely stretch of coastline and very worth a visit.. You need to be physically fit to get the most out of this area as there are a lot of no go areas for cars and a lot of very steep hills to walk down and climb back up at the end of your visit. The locals are very welcoming and extremely friendly. A great place for families, walkers, dog owners and couples like ourselves looking for peace and quiet in lovely surroundings.

A fantastic job has been done on this cottage, loads of little nooks and crannies for storage. We did enquire about what we needed to take and told ‘everything’, as it’s self-catering, but when we got there we found washing up liquid, cloths, cleaning materials, dishwasher tablets, tea, coffee and sugar, plus more! We took a couple of mugs, but didn’t need them as there was plenty of crockery and cutlery (useful as there was a dishwasher), and loads of pots, pans and baking trays. We took a thin duvet with us – glad we did as the one supplied was quite thick. Staithes is a lovely village, very friendly. Two pubs – we preferred the Cod and Lobster. There is the Captain Cook (up the ‘killer’ hill). Co-op good for shopping (but at the top of the hill!), the butcher in the village (open mornings) also sells milk, bread, papers, pies and fruit and veg. We opted for the “private” Glen Vale car park (£6/day) because we didn’t fancy yomping up the hill to feed the meter but have now found that you can do it online (ringgo).

Spent a lovely long weekend at The Old Joiner’s Shop at the beginning of June.. The property is even better than it looks in the pictures, and has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break. Perfectly located at the bottom of the hill and looking out onto the beck, a minute or two walk to the Cod and Lobster (super friendly and exceptional food) and the sea. Comfortable, clean and beautifully maintained. Staithes itself is a gorgeous little village and will certainly return.

We loved our stay at the Old Joiners Shop in Staithes! It was perfect for us. We were walking on the Cleveland Way and it’s right on the path! It was in the main downhill part of the village handy for both pubs, we ate at the Cod and Lobster and that worked well. The Old Joiners Shop is so well done , it had everything we needed in a small space, well thought out use of space, quirky touches, it was warm and cosy, great to come back to after a day walking. We’d love to stay there again.

Everything.. From making the booking to leaving Joiners on departure day. An incredible location in a beautiful village of Staithes. A timeless place we have stayed in over 10 times in recent years. Our first in Joiners and definetly not our last. We remember this building in our earlier visits and the conversion and been breathtaking.

Fantastic accommodation.. Very cosy. Great location. Fire was very realistic. Quality accessories. Would have liked a washer/drier instead of a dishwasher. Parking was free (until 1st march). Cod and lobster pub food was super. Would definitely return.

Lovely little touches such as bottle of wine and pint of milk in the fridge, enjoyed seeing the pictures of the origins of the original joiners shop a real labour of love to transform to this apartment , very clean and nice and warm. Very friendly village made to feel very welcome. Would definitely return, very well done to the owners

The old joiners shop cottage was amazing.. From the outside you would never dream how lovely it is on the inside. Although compact every inch has been perfectly utilised, so comfortable and warm, very lovely walk in shower that greets you when switched on then say bye when finished, can't compliment the owner Gary enough. The location perfect, we were going to arrive earlier than stated time so quick text to the owner and he said be fine to check in at 1 , it was nearer 2 before we arrived but knowing we could get into cottage was a nice feeling after travelling 90 miles. Gary also text back good places to eat in the village too, how kind. A brilliant Christmas, and birthday spent at the old joiners shop. Would highly recommend..

November 2017
Very expensive for what it was.. No cutlery in the property - not a problem for us as we did not plan to cater etc. On the day of checkout an attempt to enter the property without our permission was made. We were aware of the door being opened but no one had knocked etc. The door could not be opened as we had left the key in. It was before 9:30 am so we were well before the departure time. When challenged we were told that the female whom did not identify herself "just wanted to drop the washing off". We were in the process of getting ready so we had to retreat to the bedroom and allow the female (still did not explain whom she was) to drop Two large bags of bedding/wine/milk etc. This should not happen and should be left until paying customers have vacated the property. No apology was made and we were made to feel like an inconvenience and that we had done something wrong. My wife was very upset. THIS NEEDS ADDRESSING.

Great little holiday cottage that is very well presented and excellently equipped.. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay, the owners left tea ,coffee and milk which was really appreciated after a long journey and also a bottle of wine which we thought was a very nice touch. Its location near the beck/bridge makes it an ideal location for the pubs and harbour although it was pretty busy at times when we were sat out on the terrace. The only grumble ( not at the property as this is fantastic) is the inconsiderate parking of some people.

Lovely accommodation.. The scenery was beautiful of the harbour and the sea. We went to the 2 pubs -The Royal George and The Cod and Lobster to have a lovely meal. The house and streets are so quaint, they are some great walk ways too. The Seagulls screetched morning, noon and night, however, after the first night we got used to it. We went day trips to Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, and Scarborough which aren't that far away from Staithes. Went on steam train from Whitby to Pickering costing £62, loved it. Went on the boat at Whitby which was only £3 per person. I felt relaxed and would recommend this holiday.
