Really nice cottage with everything you need for self catering. Always a big relief to find where I’m staying is clean and this place is spotless. There were three of us and we found the space adequate although the bed in the small room is probably more suited for a child. We’re not walkers (for which the location is perfect) but we found plenty of places to visit. If you’re using the car then it’s worth looking into a 7 day parking pass which can be used in most places in the borough. The local pub was so good after the first visit we booked it another two evenings. All in all a very nice place to stay.

Great little cottage. We had a lovely 2 weeks. The hosts were friendly with welcome gifts on arrival. Our only criticism is the TV. The sound is awful. WiFi is very good so why not upgrade to a bigger smart TV with Netflix & Prime. Also we found the double bed mattress very uncomfortable. So didn’t really get a good nights sleep. Place is very hilly which didn’t bother us at all. Good local pub and fish & chips. Warning- No mobile phone signal either.

We arrived slightly early for check in but had been advised by Elaine that hopefully the cottage would be ready by 2pm which it was. We were just unloading when Gerard popped in with some milk,so with the hamper kindly provided we could have a cuppa & snack. The weather wasn't very warm for June but the cottage was always nice & cosy, the washing machine being a benefit as we were going on to Thirsk on the Saturday. The cottage is well equipped and we did do a bit of cooking a couple of nights. The Fox & hounds pub ,just 100 yards away does some fantastic, reasonable pub grub , I don't think we've ever had food so hot & steaming , thanks to Paul who along with the lady chef were managing very well without help. Theakstons £2.90 a pint. The Captain Cook pub on hill to Staithes did a really good Sunday lunch for 2 & three pints for just over £30. We hadn't been to this area before but may well return , the owners & villagers really friendly & lots of walks which can be done from the cottage. Places we visited not really further than 15 miles away. Shame the sun didn't shine but didn't stop us doing anything. Staithes, Redcar, Saltburn is lovely but don't queue to sit in the Seaview restaurant very overated. Coop handy up the road turn right for supplies or turn left 6 miles up the road to Aldi, Asda etc. Only criticism is the TV, the sound is awful & with such good WiFi could have a bugger Smart TV to get Netflix, iPlayer, prime etc .

Wonderful cottage well maintained, equipped and cleaned, cozy and warm.. Owners are very welcoming and friendly who live next door. Fox & Hounds literally 3 min walk a friendly pub with great food and pint £2.50. Fantastic location with 15 min walk into Staithes. Excelsiors Fish & Chips were very good under 10 min walk. Capt Cooks Inn great paddle of ale. Thought Cod & Lobster were overrated on their food. Lovely walks from cottage. Saltburn was a nice Victorian seaside town. Gt Ayton was lovely we parked at Capt Cooks monument and walked a circular round up to Rosebery Topping wonderful views. We had a great holiday.

This cottage is perfect for a family of four, separate bedrooms for the children and a downstairs loo too! Lovely and clean with a sweet welcome basket on arrival which was unexpected and a lovely touch. Dalehouse is the perfect location to explore lots of lovely beaches and villages, nothing is more than 10 minutes away by car. We visited Whitby, Sands End, Runswick Bay, Saltburn and of course Staithes. Gerard even took our two children (plus husband!) on a tour of the farm via quad bike which made all of their days!! We will most definitely be visiting again!

Lovely cottage.. Only booked two nights here for the weekend. Great location - a short walk to Staithes harbour. Appreciated the welcome treats and was sorry we did not get a chance to thank the owners for these. Can definitely recommend.

This cottage was absolutely spotless and equipped with everything we could have needed, I would highly recommend it to anyone.. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful and were on site to help, but did not encroach on our break at all- the perfect hosts. They even left some welcome treats appropriate to the covid situation. The area in which the cottage lies is amazing, just a short walk into Staithes, but the actual hamlet is lovely and peaceful- a lovely place to sit and have a quiet drink after a day of exploring this beautiful area.

This cottage was the best cottage we have stayed in.. It was well equipped with everything we needed and more. The hosts,Gerrard and Elaine, were very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. There were biscuits, chocolate, tea coffee, sugar and milk waiting for us on our arrival. I can't praise them and their cottage enough. Would definitely stop there again and will be recommending them to our family and friends.

We had a lovely time at the Post Box cottage, it was in a great setting and the owners were very friendly and welcoming.. We were also left a small welcome pack with chocolate, biscuits and milk. Lovely walks near by and a 10 minute walk to Staithes.

Mr Hirst, June 2019
June 2019
Lovely situated property approached down a steep hill - village is in a valley.. Your mobile phone will not work here - only if you go to a higher place. As the property is a converted farm barn there is no garden to sit out in but at the front of the property there is small stone patio supplied with a table, bench and chairs which overlooks the road into the village and properties opposite which are pleasant. The facilities in the cottage were excellent, very modern and clean. The owners were very helpful living next door nothing was too much trouble for them. Would recommend if you are aware that there is no garden.

Fantastic cottage and location, had every thing we needed and it was lovely being there at lambing time.. Gerard the farmer was happy to chat about the farm and the local area. I believe the info said limited Wi-Fi but this was fine just no mobile reception as it's in a dip.

We stayed in Post Box cottage which was ideal as it had 3 bedrooms ( 1 double and 2 single) for a very reasonable price. It was clean and well equipped and an ideal spot for walking the Cleveland Way. We were there at lambing time and Gerard was always happy to discuss the farm and local area even though there was lots going on with lambs being born every day. This is a very hilly area and you can't walk more than 1/4 mile without a slope - we live in Suffolk so are not used to so many hills. Wifi was good but no reception for text messages.
