This beamed home in the heart of Whitby makes a lovely base for a family. The location is excellent, only a short walk from the ruins of Whitby Abbey and the famous 199 steps that lead to the lookout at the Church of Saint Mary. Pubs, fish and chip shops, local stores and restaurants are all within easy reach, as is Whitby Beach and the adventure-filled seafront, just a ten-minute stroll away.
When you're not out taking advantage of this central seaside spot, there's more than enough space back at home to sprawl out and get cosy. Warm up by the fire in the sitting room, whip up a delicious dinner in the country-style kitchen or play a round of table football in the loft bedroom underneath the A-frame timber beams. The style is very rustic and pared-back – think unfinished wood, earth tones and exposed stone – but we like it all the same. Add in the easy access to all of Whitby's landmarks and it's a winner in our books.
Home truths: *This is a good option for families – the host can arrange a cot, high chair, changing table, children's dinnerware and books and toys on request
*This home is set over four floors and won't be suitable for those with limited mobility
*Due to the sloped ceilings and single beds, we think the third bedroom is better for kids
*This home has a private entrance
*The dining table doubles as a laptop-friendly workspace
*While there's no parking provided, there is free street parking as well as a pay-to-park lot nearby
