Lovely little cottage on the edge of Glaisdale. Absolutely spotless and very comfortable. 10 miles from Whitby, the village is on the Pickering to Whitby railway line, though the station is at the other end of the village, like the pub, and a bit of a hike away; a small general store and a butcher are slightly closer, but still a fair walk away and all uphill on the way back. Glaisdale is tucked away in the winding, hilly roads leading to the moors and every time you go anywhere you end up on little roads with fabulous views, and in the middle of great walking country. Handy for Whitby, Scarborough, Pickering, beautiful Riveaulx Abbey, Hutton le Hole, Flamborough Head, and any number of pretty little villages. Close enough to visit York and Harrogate too. Don't miss Saltburn if you want a sandy beach with somewhere to eat but a minimum of expensive commercial distractions. There's a great park there too with a little train and excellent kids' play areas.
My only small niggle was that the views from the garden and living room were limited because of some sort of animal shelter that formed the back wall of the garden. On the plus side there were sheep, pigs, hens and ducks in the field at the back which would amuse kids. All in all a near perfect place to stay if you want peace and quiet within easy reach of plenty of interesting places.
