A very comfortable , extremely clean, well equipped cottage suitable for adults and children, providing an excellent base for visiting the North Yorkshire coast, the moors, Cleveland Way, the National Park, and further afield.. Places like Whitby, Runswick Bay, Sandsend, and Saltburn are short drives away via the A174. There are a number of short and longer walks from the doorstep. Mulgrave Cottage is situated in the centre of a very quiet village yet a short walk to Staithes harbour, Staithes' pubs, Staithes Co-op, and fish and chips. Dalehouse itself has a pub that at the time of this review serves food although we did not have the opportunity to visit. At nearby Borrowby there is an equestrian centre. The cottage has parking for at least two vehicles and at the front there is a private gated and block paved area where you can sit to eat and drink (weather permitting) and where children can play safely. The owners, Elaine and Gerard, live in the adjacent farm house and are very helpful and friendly. We and other family members had an excellent stay and proved a very positive distraction from the current national crisis. Overall, we can't recommend Mulgrave Cottage enough and look forward to returning.

A lovely cottage with a very warm welcome from the owner.. WiFi a little intermittent but given the area not unexpected. The beds were very comfortable, along with pillows. Cottage was spotlessly clean and welcoming. Had a most enjoyable stay. Not needed with our party, but if needed good disabled facility.

Mulgrave cottage was exactly what we were looking for - a little cottage tucked away in a village, but in walking distance of Staithes and the coastal path.. It was crystal clean, plenty of space inside and comfy beds! It didn't feel very cosy, though was perfectly functional and met all our needs. The kitchen was well equipped, though the fridge was too small for 6 guests for a week. We were a little disappointed that the outside terrace was also the driveway, though it was big enough that it didn't matter too much. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to explore the area.

We had a fantastic short break at Mulgrave Cottage.. The location is idyllic and within walking distance of Staithes and a short drive to Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Whitby. We were made to feel very welcome by Gerard and Elaine and they had thought of everything their guests might need. The welcome basket was a lovely touch! Everything in the cottage was spotlessly clean and hand sanitizer and hand wash were provided. We would love to come back and stay for longer!

We booked as a last minute getaway through Sykes Cottages. The price was expensive but the cottage was nice and clean. Owners friendly and welcoming, we were greeted with a welcome card, chocolate and biscuits which was a lovely touch. Cottage was in a cute village within walking distance to the lovely Staites. The owners had thought of lots of nice touches from hand wash to a fresh bottle of milk in the fridge. Slight issue with the WIFI but this was quickly rectified. The baby horse from the farm kept my youngest entertained and was adorable. I would have preferred the shower proof wheel chair / commode to have been removed from the master bedroom but apart from that I would book again for a relaxing break and would recommend.

The cottage is well equipped.. There were toiletries in the bathrooms, tea, coffee, sugar, and everything needed to cook. On arrival we were greeted with milk, biscuits and sweets. It is nicely situated within short drives to Whitby, Saltburn and the North York Moors. Lots of lovely walks on the doorstep. The pub is two minutes walk away were we enjoyed good meals and the staff were friendly. The cottage owners, Gerard, Elaine and their son Tom couldn’t have made us more welcome. We stayed over Christmas and on Christmas Day realised we had no gravy for our Christmas dinner. They gave us homemade gravy and apple sauce. On Boxing Day they arrived with homemade soup and spicy lamb, cooked by Tom, which was delicious. Gerard also let us meet his farm dogs, cows and a beautiful horse. He gave us lots of interesting information which made the stay even more special. On arriving home one of our company had left items at the cottage and Gerard and Elaine posted them back. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they made of stay special. We certainly intend to return.

I had a very enjoyable holiday with my disabled husband ( the disabled ground floor wetroom and bedroom were perfect for us.. We also had 2 adult granddaughters with us, 1 with her partner and 1 with her baby and they had the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom. This was ideal for all of us and we had a very good holiday. The owners were friendly and the cottage well-equipped. The North Yorkshire moors and coast are beautiful and the cottage is in easy reach of many interesting places.

Our hosts Elaine and Gerard went above and beyond! ! Chocolate, biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar, milk and many other products had already been supplied for us. Fresh flowers in the cottage. Gerard also popped in with some homemade cupcakes on the second day of our stay, which was a lovely added touch. He was always on hand if we had any questions, as well as suggestions and local knowledge to help us with our days out during our stay. We couldn't fault anything at all about our stay and will be back!!!!!

The farmer who owns the cottage was very friendly and helpful.. A lovely peaceful position. The only criticism I have is that the fridge freezer was very small! Overall I would really recommend this cottage especially if you like countryside and farm animals. The local pub was excellent, good food at reasonable prices

Although Sykes "met our expectations" (we have used Sykes before), our hosts at Mulgrave Cottage far exceeded expectations.. They were friendly & VERY helpful. The cottage is lovely & everything we needed was provided including a "welcome pack" of milk, sweets & biscuits - just what we needed after the long drive from Edinburgh. When we arrived, the oil warning light had come on in my car & I asked if there was a local garage I could go to. Mr Welford checked the oil level & advised me not to drive anymore until the oil had been topped up and offered to go to the garage next morning to get the oil for me, which he did. He even put the oil in for me. Kindness above & beyond expectations. There was a wee problem with the hot water & within 5 minutes of us letting Mrs Welford know, Mr Welford was on site resolving the matter. I would reccommend Mulgrave Cottage very highly. It is situated in a lovely part of Yorkshire & within easy travelling distance of Whitby, Saltburn by the Sea & the Moors. Staithes is a picturesque harbour town, although it has very steep access roads. Everyone seemed friendly & we had a very pleasant week.

Mulgrave Cottage was perfect for our family weekend break.. The cottage was spanking clean, everything we needed was provided and the welcome gift a very thoughtful gesture by the owners. Elaine, Gerard and Tom all made us feel welcome and Gerard went out of his way to make sure we saw the newly born calves and lambs. Would highly recommend the cottage to anyone wanting a few days away with easy access to Staithes, Runswick Bay and Whitby. There's also a great pub two minutes walk away, The Fox and Hounds, where Bill and the rest of the staff were really friendly and welcoming. We'll definitely be booking for another break and looking forward to it already.

Elaine & Gerard are excellent hosts - providing just enough information & being available if required but not giving the impression that they are watching everything you do! The ideal balance.

We had a fantastic week at this cottage which is perfectly located for both coast and countryside day trips.. Cottage was very cosy, comfortable, spotlessly clean and very well equipped for all our needs. Downstairs bedroom with en suite wet room was a thoughtful addition and ideal for my mum who has mobility problems. Owners were very friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make us feel welcome (fab welcome pack) and giving us ideas for making the most of the local area. Best cottage we have stayed in and will definitely book again! Excelled in every way.
