Three miles from the Regency city of Bath, Hinton Charterhouse is a beautiful honey-hued village. This home sits in the heart of the village, with a couple of cosy country pubs on the doorstep and a fifteen-minute drive into Bath. A Georgian facade, typical of the Cotswolds, greets you on arrival and inside it’s a vibrant twist on cottage classic. The hearth in the living room with its wood-burner is pure cottage aesthetic, but the zig-zag sofa and dusky pink walls are all style. Two full kitchens mean you can choose between a roast dinner done right in the range, or cooking 21st-century-style with the electric oven and induction hob. Upstairs, each bedroom has its own character – a single room with pink bunting for kids, a twin room in the eaves, a daring double in navy and yellow, and a calming, sunny master with an arched window. There’s also an office room if you need to get some work done. End the evening in the walled garden where a couple of deckchairs sit on the lawn and the old walls are illuminated by stringed lights.
Home truths: *One of the bedrooms is in the loft annexe, with a separate entrance up some metal steps from the garden
*A camp bed can be set up in the single room to fit another child
*Parking is on the road outside the house and is free and buses run directly to Bath and Frome from outside the house
*The owners have cats and although they will not be there when you stay, those with severe allergies might want to look elsewhere
*A cot, high chair, children's cutlery and a babysitter can all be arranged, just ask your host
