Area
The charming village of Rosedale Abbey is positioned within Rosedale, a lovely valley of sweeping hillsides and breath-taking views, and is conveniently located for travelling both the Moors and the Coast. It is located in the centre of the North York Moors National Park. Beautiful moorland scenery surrounds Rosedale, and bridleways and footpaths extend in all directions. The Cistercian Priory, which gave the village its peculiar name in the 12th century, is now reduced to a single stone pillar, a stairway, and a sundial. The village green is surrounded by charming stone-built houses, shops, tearooms, two former coaching inns, and a glass studio that was recently featured in an episode of the BBC's "Countryfile" show. Although Rosedale Abbey features a 9-hole golf course, there are several other top-notch courses nearby for golf fans. A excellent selection of services, including eateries, boutiques, and marketplaces, can be found in the busy market towns of Kirkbymoorside, Pickering, and Helmsley. The abbeys at Rievaulx and Byland are also well worth a visit. Castle Howard and the ancient city of York are both easily accessible by road, while the seaside resorts of Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, and Scarborough are all close by. Visitors may travel back in time by scheduling a ride on the North York Moors Steam Railway in nearby Pickering, and they can also discover the fascinating history of the region at the Ryedale Folk Museum, which hosts workshops all year long. For a genuinely memorable and exciting family fun day out, embrace the outdoors at Go Ape in Dalby Forest, or get lost in The Great Yorkshire Maze.
