Area
Helston lies at the western gateway to the Lizard Peninsula, a large area of downland fringed by a beautiful and spectacular coastline. Helston is a pleasant busy market town famous for its Flora Day Festival and the many stories and legends about the "Furry Dance" are told in the fascinating Helston Folk Museum. Nearby is the Poldark Mine, one of the best underground experiences in the south west and which tells of the widespread mining heritage of this area. Nestled in a tranquil setting is the National Seal Sanctuary on the Helford River, where there is plenty of entertainment watching seals play and feed. If it is thrill rides that excites you, then Flambards theme park will keep you amused all day and also has excellent living history experiences. Further afield is the harbour town of Falmouth to the east and Land's End to the west. Helston is a wonderful holiday destination offering plenty of attractions for the whole family.

Region
Cornwall's visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.

Woodpecker cottage and Gill (who runs it) exceeded my expectations.. Little things like, salt and pepper, washing up liquid...….. dishwasher tablets, you name it and it was provided (things I always forget!). The local supermarkets deliver and the postcode is well known to the delivery persons. Set in silent countryside, 3 miles from the nearest pub! Beautiful walks (weather permitting) and lots of places of interest nearby. A car is recommended but not obligatory. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in and the décor is perfectly in tune. Both bedrooms being en-suite and the views are gorgeous. On arrival I was greeted with milk in the fridge, tea bags on the table and a plate of fresh scones (or is it scones?) with clotted cream and jam. In front of a log burning fire! I wish Gill and her son Carl all the very best and aim to see them again early next season...…. and cant wait to see Rinny again, their 4 year old Alsatian with the most beautifully relaxed temperament.

Woodpecker cottage: A pretty cottage in beautiful surroundings.. It is well-equipped. The owner and her son are both genuinely friendly and helpful. The narrow lane to it could be alarming if you don't like reversing! The wood-burner is excellent! The radiators are rather temperamental - hence can be a bit 'fresh' in cold weather. The cottage has great character. Good restaurants in the vicinity - e.g. Wheal Dream (on road for Redruth), Crafty Slice Café (café / craft shop in Mullion); Post office / shop/ café in Ruan Minor - et al! Fabulous place for Cornish Pasties near A!S tyres in Helston. Remarkably beautiful 9and friendly) me3dieval church in Mullion. ,

Lovely cottage and very warm welcome from Jill, the owner .. Comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. The full Cornish cottage experience. Take dvds with you for evenings as reception on tv is poor as it's in the countryside. Highly recommend this cottage if you are looking for a quiet retreat.

Great service - we needed a second confirmation e-mail which was supplied very quickly and everything else was spot on, with confirmation of monies due/paid.. The cottage was delightful, off the beaten track, very quiet and peaceful and there was plenty of room in the cottage too. We received a very warm welcome from Gill the owner, and pleasingly there was milk in the fridge and a cream tea waiting for us! There was an excellent folder explaining the "ins and outs" of the facilities at the cottage as well as information on local facilities. We would thoroughly recommend it.

Woodpecker Cottage is a lovely cottage with many wildlife visitors every morning, we ate breakfast watching the woodpecker, squirrels and many other lovely birds from the breakfast table, the owner Gill is a lovely lady that wants your stay to be exactly how you want it.. We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage that is located in a beautiful area. Location wise it is far enough away from everywhere to be peaceful but only 15 minutes from Helston and easy reach to everywhere we wanted to go. Thank you for a fantastic holiday our boys had a really good time.

The cottage was exactly as expected and our host Gill was super.. The beds were the most comfortable we had slept in and I took a note of the make of ours thinking of changing ours at home. The location was great so peaceful and though getting there was down 1 lane road with passing places it wasnt far off main road and well worth the journey to get there. We are all talking about making a return visit as it was so good and in a week we did not do all the things that there are in the area. thank you once again Gill, Carl and not forgetting the dog Rinny.

Lovely location, watching the birds and squirrel each morning feeding.. Gill the owner was very friendly and looked after us well keeping us updated with the road situation prior to going due to the heavy snowfalls the week before. Lovely gardens around and would be wonderful to sit out in the morning watching the sun tide over the Lizard.
