We had stayed at the Old Ticket Office before in September 2014. Before Covid we had decided to book again for this year, thankfully restrictions had eased and we were able to travel and have our week at this charming Property. Since our last visit the cottage has had a wee face lift the spiral star has been painted cream and the kitchen units hob, oven and fridge have all been replaced and updated, there is even a dishwasher. This cottage is small and the sleeping area is in the eave's as is the toilet and bathroom. We would not recommend this cottage to anyone with mobility issues as the spiral stairs would be a struggle. It is a very pleasant place for a couple to stay with the added bonus of steam Trains from the NYMR passing by each day. Locally there is a little village shop, and a nice wee butchers who seems to do a roaring trade and of course the Pub across the road. The place was clean and we were asked to bring our own Pillows because of Covid. There was Milk in the fridge Tea & Coffee and a pack of Ginger biscuits from Botham's of Whitby. The only minor issue we have is with Parking. Parking is shared with the Station house a much larger property. The people staying at the station house had 2 cars and on the 1st night there were 3. Now they had been told there was room for 3 cars by the owner. There is one parking space for the Old Ticket Office and 1 for the Station house. When we arrived just after 4pm we could not get parked, I had to block one of the other cars in. We did come to arrangement with the other people, that they were only going to use one car for the week and we could block the other one in There was absolutely no way I was leaving my car parked on the road, there are constant lorry's and farm vehicles passing. Later in the week another person who had just arrived in the village I suspect staying at another property owned by the same people had been told she could park there as well. The parking was already over full so she had to make other plans for her car. So just a wee message to the owner there is not 3 parking spaces there are only 2 spaces, 1 for the Ticket office and one for the Station House, please stop telling people there are 3 spaces for the Station House, parking issues have the potential to cause bad feeling and ruin Holidays, thankfully this didn't happen this time.

The accommodation was comfortable & cosy with everything needed for an enjoyable stay.. Being able to walk into Whitby so quickly & easily was a real bonus as was the smart tv. Only being able to access the bed from one side might be a problem for some but as I was alone it didn’t matter.

I really enjoyed the quirkiness of this ‘bijou’ cottage.. I’m still smiling at it’s peculiarities. The staircase running up from the centre of the room seemed its largest feature! Ruswarp is a great place to escape from Whitby’s hubbub and yet it is so close as to be very convenient. My dog and I enjoyed walking into Whitby along the railway line, we’ll adjacent to the line really. The accommodation was extremely clean and well supplied. Only one little niggle - the bathroom washbasin was extremely tiny! Water everywhere when face washing! The arrangement for key collection went very smoothly. The appearance of the steam train was an added bonus. I shall probably try to stay here again.

We arrived early evening and had difficulty locating the parking space.. Although it has a sign, you can't see this in the dark and access was blocked by occupants of the Station House. Looking at other reviews, this seems to be a recurring theme. Unfortunately, my partner found the bed far too soft so we probably wouldn't return, but don't let that put you off. It's a great location for both Whitby and exploring the moors.

The property is certainly quirky and very unusual; not often we get the chance to stay in a property with steam trains passing your front door.. Considering its an old building with single glazing it was cosy and warm. Just a reminder that there is a spiral staircase (which we personally loved) and cabin bed, definitely not for those who are less than moderately agile. In December 19 the National Rail train service is being improved with an early morning and late evening service, it wasn't an issue with us, but being adjacent to a level crossing the train's whistle is sounded upon arrival and departure. The road through the village can be busy, mostly with farm traffic. There is an excellent walk via footpath following the railway into Whitby, taking around 30 minutes. The butchers in Ruswarp is well worth visiting. Parking is shared with the main station house, which requires cooperation if the Station House guests have more than one car. We enjoyed our stay here.

Hi we loved this cottage , the cottage was very clean and the setting was wonderful , however we had a problem with the upstairs, the bed is set into the eves of the building and accessed by the space of a door opening.. The toilet and shower are also set into the eves of the building and moving around upstairs was very limited. There is no wardrobe just a hallway hatstand to hang your clothes. The bed was a problem to us , maybe others can cope with it but we couldn't. Unfortunately after three nights we left. Having said that if you are of small build and agile and don't suffer from claustrophobia you will be ok. The owners had left a complimentary tray of biscuits , tea and coffee etc which was very nice and place was very clean , but unfortunately wasn't for us.

Ticket office is small but very well equipped with everything you need for your stay the bedroom is very small, can only access bed one side and in the eaves, We managed, and bed very comfortable but not for everyone.. We enjoyed our stay found downstairs very cosy and warm, kitchen well equipped and very clean , we did have problem with kitchen taps had to turn taps off tight as taps didn't reach sink. we enjoyed our weeks stay and had good weather loved seeing trains

We loved the quirkiness of the ticket office.. The facilities were superb with every provided.The welcome tray was lovely with biscuits,tea,coffee,sugar and a pint of milk not little sachets. The walk to Whitby was also lovely and the butcher's in the village did lovely breakfast cobs.We cannot fault the ticket office in any way and look forward to booking again in the future hopefully during the summer season when steam train is running.

Sadly whilst the location was perfect the cottage was disappointing I expected small & cozy but found the bed exceptionally tight and the bed linen smelt fusty the towels were small and old not luxury comfort.. The shower was barely big enough to wash in & the electric power very poor. The cottage was clean and well equipped Outside we had difficulties parking the space taken by a group in the adjoining Station House.

The steam trains were great but the property needs a little work 1st good points for 2 people it is great right on the staion platform living area cosy but ok as a base to operate from close to Whitby and Scarborugh as well as Goathland (HEARTBEAT) we enjoyed our stay we would give it 8 out of 10 but could so easily be a 10 out of 10 welcome tray on arrival nice touch key east to obtain from the location told to us parking not an issue place for 1 car for steam train fans it is great although northen rail still run through it they are the only ones that stop at this staion The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (DO NOT STOP AT THIS STATION) Now the bad points or points that need attention the skylight in the roof is double glazed but not sound proofed so nosie from road travels in, The alcove at the front of the property which you have to walk through to get on to platform has a public phone in it and when sat in the property you can hear them as clear as if they were next to you this can be rectified by sound proofing the old front entrance door the TV there is no TV aerial just a dish for FREESAT but half the buttons on the remte controls do not work the FREESAT needs retuning as stations are missing or just upgrade it as well as putting a TV aerial up for the TV but by far the worst is the bed yes it is in a small area but basically a hole in the wall to get into bed then one of you is by the wall the other by the hole if you need the toilet in the night you have to climb over the other person there is no other way to do it but a good arcitecht could solve this problem they really are small changes which would take no longer then 1 week to put right then it would be a 10 out of 10 property would I recommend this property to a friend with the bed as it is no if the bed was altered then it would be a yes I know they sound picky but if it is raining all week you will need a TV and FREESAT that works properly we came home a day early Friday instead of Saturday but the property is clean and tidy the bridge pub across from the staion The Bridge (DOES NOT) do food yet.

The ticket office car park bay was taken by the residents of station house when we arrived.. There were 4 cars in all. we had to asked them to move cars so we could get in. They told us a lady? said they could park there. therefore we landed up parked close to the station house front door.Not impressed.

When we looked there were no pictures of the bedroom so from the description we .... When we looked there were no pictures of the bedroom so from the description we thought it was the bed with one side by a wall nothing was aid about having to cfrawl through what is like a hole in the wall to get in and out off bed althought the holiday we had was great it was the going out and about not the accommodation the TV only works through freesat there is no tv aireal so no freeview channels available the freesat remote control is vaigue and most of the buttons on the remotes for TV and freesat do not work I think a good acritecht could sort out the up stairs configuration update the freesat and get a tv aireal for the tv maybe a bigger TV would also be helpful although it sounds negative it was a good stay but the pub across the road does not serve food it say's that it does in the booklet but they do not (miss leading) so in short if the upstairs could be reconfigured you would have it cracked along with more sound proofing and you would have the perfect place to stay as for the trains passing through the staion only 3 steam and one vintage diesel daily the rest are modern trains operated by northen rail marks out of ten we would give it 8/10 sort sound proofing, the bedroom and TV issues it would become 10/10

This was our second visit to the Ticket Office.. It's great for anyone interested in trains - heritage or mainline! We actually used the train to travel this time and, of course, got off where the Ticket Office is situated on the platform. Great location! The walks into Whitby and back, along the path at the side of the railway, were very pleasant and easy being all on the level. Excellent accommodation for two people.

The cottage is quirky but it has got all mod cons.. The place is very quiet so we had a very relaxing week which was what we wanted. Whitby is just a 5-minute train journey away but the footpath takes you there in about 20 minutes. If you are a train aficionado the steam trains will make your stay worthwhile. Goth weekend was an extra bonus! We'll definitely stay there again. Pity it's fully booked until the beginning of November...

We have been here before and love the cottage.. It is a bit quirky but that’s why we like it. It’s front door is on the platform. There are regular trains passing and steam trains from Easter. Once you’ve mastered the stairs you get used to the restrictions upstairs. Well equipped with everything you need and use of the front garden at the station house if required. Our dog loved the walks all in easy reach and Jackson’s the butchers do great bacon/sausage sandwiche’s and pies etc. Will be going back again soon

We stayed in the Ticket office for a week at the end of August and we had a wonderful time. The location of the property is brilliant and we never got tired of seeing the trains go past. It is a quick 3 minute train ride away from Whitby, or a 20 minute walk if you are feeling a little more active. The downstairs of the property is very comfortable, but the upstairs rooms are sitting in the eves and therefore have sloping ceilings that may not be suitable for particularly tall people. The spiral staircase may also cause issues to anyone who isn't confident with heights but is very secure. We would definitely book this property again as we were very comfortable and everything was immaculate.

As stated in other reviews, fantastic if you are a steam train fan, obviously why people book. Hated the spiral staircase, freezer compartment in fridge was not efficient. There is only 1 window that opens, this is in the form of a sky light in the bedroom area, which, unless you are 6ft plus [ which we are not] you have to take a chair upstairs and stand on it in order to open the window. The water in the shower was usually cold, at best, luke warm. There is a switch downstairs to turn on landing light, but no switch upstairs. The bed was difficult to get in and out of, like sleeping in a cupboard. Parking can be awkward, when we arrived, our space was being used by people from Station House next door, took a while to find drivers for cars to be moved. We would not return, left on Friday afternoon, so did not encounter 'silent' cleaners.

I'm a massive (6'5") rail fan and selected this cottage largely cos of this. The location is fantastic. The downstairs of the property is nice but retains little of the original detail. The spiral stair looks OK but is not great for a big man. Upstairs.........Well, no pics I notice. The bed....Very comfy when you can get in but rubbish covers. We swapped around so that we could get in/out easily. The bathroom....No room for me to get clean after the loo. Power points upstairs impossible. Obviously done on the cheap. Next door is massive and some room should have been given to the Ticket Office. Ms Jones the owner was cold on the phone (they have 5 properties) Cleaning staff turn up early of the Saturday leaving day and don't speak. Totall unsuitable for elderly/disabled folk.

The ticket office gives a beautiful glimpse into the past. The accommodation has been cleverly created in the old ticket office on Ruswarp station platform on the North Esk Railway line. The ticket office is accurately described by the owner, it is small but has all a couple need to enjoy a break in a lovely unusual location. The accommodation is very well equipped, it has a real flame gas fire and electric radiators so despite the freezing weather outside we were warm and cozy. The sleeping quarters have been created in the roof space, headroom is an issue but it works fine, the small shower is piping hot, the small double bed can only be accessed from one side so it is necessary to disturb the person nearest to the opening if the other person needs to get up in the night.a sense of humour helps! There is a designated parking space, regrettably this was initially not available to us as the people renting the attached station house had denied access by parking in front of it, this was soon addressed without problem. All in all the ticket office was a great base for our short break, we loved seeing the trains going past the window, the accommodation was equipped to a high standard and although being very small was quaint and fun.

We had such a magical holiday at The Ticket Office. A superb, enchanting little hideaway, which we absolutely adored. The location was perfect with a pub across the road, and a lovely little walk into Whitby's centre just across the platform, moments from the front door, along with the river flowing very close by, and a fantastic local butchers' and bakery within easy reach. We thought it to be an adorable, unique holiday property, something a little bit different, and quite special in its own homely, characterful way. We cannot thank the owners enough, as they had truly thought of everything to make our stay the relaxed getaway we were seeking! Just the Ticket (Office)!

Having stayed in the adjoining Station House we decided to try the adjoining Ticket Office as it was cheaper but still offered the same unbeatable location with easy access to Whitby and the North Yorks Moors as well as the "main line" and preserved Nymr. The Ticket Office was excellent as dexpected,the spiral staircase not bothering her who must be obeyed even though she does not have a head for heights. Whilst the bed was accessible from one side only, this was not a problem and the overall ambience of the accomodation was excellent. Whilst there is a designated parking space for one car (and supposedly 3 for the Station House with 1 marked space) the people staying in the Staion House had 3 cars and on 4 occasions in a week we were either blocked in or could not access our space,I do not like the hassle of having to knock on doors at 0845 to wake somebody up in order to move their car(s) and ultimately we arranged to block their cars in as we inevitably left first in the morning.If you can manage to travel by public transport (Staion platform literally on the door step but a poor service however there is a reasonable bus service) then this would be ideal.There is very little spare parking in Ruswarp. Overall we would return to the the location again but would be prepared to pay the extra to stay in the Station House and do away with the parking issues.

The Ticket Office was a really good experience (apart from the power cut which was the fault of the weather not the property). It is small but very interesting and the bed, although unusual, is wonderfully comfortable. We had everything we needed and the fun of having trains passing the window. There is a very popular butchers in the village and it is an easy 30minute walk into Whitby and the joys of fish and chips at The Magpie.

the ticket office at Ruswarp is a great place to stay duthe office e to being located around 20 minutes from Whitby. If you like steam trains its ideal. The butchers is second to none and the pub across the road very welcoming.The office is well equipped and very cosy. Only one slight problem being the bed located under the sloping ceiling making it difficult to get in and out of. thoroughly recommend it .

A lovely place to stay, very unusual, we were right on the station platform and trains stopped right outside the door. The home was very comfortable, all amenities provided, a spiral staircase dominated downstairs but was very nice. There is a great butcher's shop just up the road, bacon very good. All in all a great place to stay.

My husband and I have to leave our fate in the hands of Sykes Holiday Cottages when we book our vacation because we're booking from Canada and we depend on them to make our trip a Holiday to remember. We were aware of the fact that the bed had only access from one side but were surprised that it appeared to be in an alcove.Having spent a number of holidays on a narrowboat however we were used to this so it was not a problem.We would not recommend this let to anyone who has any disabilities.The property is ideal for railway enthusiasts however and overall a unique experience.

Well presented accommodation - clean and reasonably well equipped. Compact but comfortable. Ruswarp is incredibly pretty. The accommodation is on a station platform with steam trains and regular service trains passing by - they caused us minimal disturbance and added real novelty value to the stay. There are good footpaths into Whitby, and the accommodation provided a good base for travelling into the moors. Two minor gripes: no freezer compartment in the refrigerator; and not possible to open the upstairs window without climbing - not a problem when we stayed in October, but can imagine the bedroom accommodation getting stuffy in the summer.

Our first visit to the area and we loved both the coast and the moors. We particularly enjoyed our visits to Whitby and the Goth week was an entertaining bonus. We also went from Grosmont to Pickering and back on the steam train which was a treat. Loved Robin hood's Bay and enjoyed walks and cream teas on the Moors. Of course we also loved the quirky Ticket Office.

Ruswarp is a very pretty village, and the steam trains passing by the front door of the accommodation are a novel bonus. The trains really caused minimal disturbance - less than the road!
