We have 2 large dogs and it was amazing having the fully enclosed field next to the beautifully manicured wrap around garden.. The cottage itself had been renovated to a high standard, and alot of thought had gone into the furnishings.
The owner is a lovely lady and very easy to talk to, but in no way intrudes whilst you are there.
Great walks.

Beautiful cosy and remote cottage.. Beautiful garden with wonderful views and plenty of birds. Our party of four adults had a lovely time here,.
Jan the owner made sure all our needs were covered. The cottage had everything needed to complement our holiday, it was so clean and comfortable.
Unfortunately the beautiful garden and paddock was not secure enough for my small Yorkie cross, she managed to escape from both on the first day (mad dog) she does have a bit of a problem with escaping.
The second bedroom did have a 4 foot small double which was a bit of a squash for two adults,
I would certainly recommend Jan and her cottage when visiting this beautiful part of the country.

Lovely well equipped cottage in a stunning location.. Beautiful places to visit in the area and the owners went above and beyond when we got caught in a snow blizzard on our way up. Lovely people...and thank you for the delicious scones on our arrival which were most welcome after our exhilarating journey up.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage - so warm and cosy and finished to an extremely high standard.. The garden and paddock at the rear are both totally enclosed so ideal for dogs to run off lead. Several walks directly from the door. The Churnet Valley area is beautiful and so dog friendly for both walks and being allowed into pubs and restaurants. Would definitely recommend Quarry Cottage and this area

We decided to go away for Christmas this year and booked Quarry House from 23rd to 27th. We took our too (old ladies) with us and planned taking them for walks instead of seeing family and cooking turkey (just for a change). We took one present each to give on Christmas morning followed by a big breakfast. We bought all our food on Christmas eve then settled in for a few relaxing, peaceful days.. Quarry House and the location did not disappoint. It was warm, cozy and very inviting. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and every cupboard, drawer, wardrobe, room had everything you could want or may need for the stay. On arrival there was a lovely card and a bottle of wine on the table from Jan and shortly after she popped in to see if we needed anything or had any questions. The garden and surrounding area was gorgeous even in Winter and we had some lovely walks with the dogs although very short ones because of their age. The wood burner kept us even toastier than the house already was and we enjoyed filling up with logs and coal from the sheds, it made a change from turning the rads on at home. We filled up all the bird feeders and watched as most of the wildlife turned up including squirels and pheasants that collected all the fallen nuts and seeds. Jan decorated the house for Christmas which was a lovely touch and it was just like being at home. Although we couldn't have asked for more and we had everything we needed and wanted, we did however discover that we missed Christmas and everything that we escaped from.. In a way we think Quarry House and all its charm and peacefulness made us appreciate all the madness of Christmas and we would probably go for a summer holiday in the future. Absolutely fab time though. Thanks Jan. Dave and Nina

My husband and I visited Quarry House with our two hounds. We experienced the most relaxing week we have had in a long time. The cottage is wonderfully snug and relaxing. The owners provide a real home from home environment with a real country cottage feel. With under floor heating and a wood burner to ensure you are warm and cosy. The real bonus for us was the wraparound garden and attached paddock. Our two energetic hounds were in heaven. The location of the cottage is perfect for dogwalking. The views from the garden are lovely and so peaceful. We have definitely decided to return.

What a beautiful house! This house exceeded all our expectations. Location of the house was lovely and quiet with a fabulous wrap around garden and a paddock for the dogs which they thoroughly enjoyed. On our arrival the house was warm and very cosy. The owner who could be contacted at any time if required also welcomed us with a plate of home made scones, fresh cream and jam also a vase of beautiful red carnations. A thoughtful and lovely touch. Everything in the house for ourselves and the dogs were catered for this was ideal. Scenery was fantastic, plenty to do as well as lots of National Trusts and local towns to visit. Highly recommended. Thank you for a wonderful week.

This cottage was the best one by far that we’ve stayed in and the home made scones with jam and fresh cream were truley amazing! The Cottage had everything for your use, a proper home from home. We just loved it, so quiet and peaceful and the open fire every evening was the icing on the cake for us! Our dog Beau was in doggy heaven in the totally enclosed garden and then the was the extra paddock for her to run around in too! We did have snow and couldn’t get out in the car for a couple of days but it didn’t matter, we put on our waterproofs and wellingtons and walked down into Oakamoor and walked on the old railway line to the Ramblers Retreat. Very dog friendly place, we’ll worth a visit and the lemon meringue pie was beautiful! Once the snow had gone we ventured out and about, there’s some very pretty villages and towns close by well worth visiting, Buxton, Bakewell, Hartington and Ashbourne but the best thing is the amazing scenery, truley amazing! Thanks you for a lovely holiday and wouldn’t hesitate to come back again but maybe in the summertime to make use of the fabulous garden.

Very nice location and ok property when returning we was asked by the owners for £30.. 00 for cleaning of the quilt cover we was asked by the owner to strip all beds and leave in the wash room floor we was very upset of the phone call . It states the property has Bt sport when we asked Mrs cresswell how to switch it on she's says you need a tablet but it didn't say that in the description so we thought we would try the pub instead but 2 out of 3 pubs have been closed down. There are more don't than dos in this poperty. At night we was also kept awake with the rats/mice running around in the roof

Quarry Cottage is in a great location with easy access to places like Alton Towers and Chatsworth House.. We arranged for a shopping delivery on the morning of our arrival and the owner put all our shopping away for us which was a nice touch.
The garden is secure so we felt safe letting our dogs out and there are some lovely walks from the doorstep.

This cottage was everything we was looking for. In a peaceful and quiet location with a large garden and grounds for our children and the dogs. The cottage was very well equipped with everything you need. We had a food delivery the morning we arrived and this was all put away for us by the owners before we got there. A very nice touch. The beds were very comfortable with lovely bedding. The views are stunning and the walks nearby are great. The owners allowed our children to feed their horses which was a big highlight for them. Lots of things to do nearby. We had some lovely days out but also lovely relaxing days at the cottage enjoying the garden. The wood burning stove in the lounge was lovely when we had one chilli evening. We look forward to returning again in the future.

We stayed at Quarry House for a weekend getaway. It is beautiful, clean and well equipped. The rooms are comfortable and well decorated, with modern features which compliment the property's historic charm. The delicious (and gluten-free) cakes provided by Jan (the owner) were an unexpected bonus! She made sure everything was ready for when we arrived.
The property has excellent views over the surrounding countryside, which is ideal for walking, or you can just stay in the cozy lounge in front of the wood-burning stove. We will definitely stay here again.

Quarry House was one if not the best equipped we have ever stayed in. Lovely warm, cosy and quiet. Fabulous views made even better by the weather being very kind to us. We only stayed for a couple of days but wished it was longer and will hopefully return in the future. Property owner was friendly and helpful. Dog friendly with the downstairs under floor heating a luxury treat for two tired Border Terriers after a days walking.

Although a late review, Quarry cottage couldn't have provided a better place for us and our dogs to stay: large secure garden, walks from the door and a pub, albeit at the bottom of the hill. The cottage itself was well equipped and very cozy. Excellent week had.

August 2015
We absolutely loved the cottage; it met all of our expectations of a beautiful old cottage with wooden beams, combined with a modern day touch. We loved everything but especially the 'Jack and Jill' bathrooms, the comfortable beds and the stunning countryside views. The rural setting was lovely and peaceful yet only a 10 minute drive from Alton Towers for some theme park madness when required.

We have just arrived home from Quarry House and will definitely be booking for next year. The cottage is simply beautiful, with stunning gardens and views. The location was perfect for us as a family; we had the benefit of a quiet, peaceful area with lovely countryside walks, whilst being able to get in the car and arrive at Alton Towers within 10 minutes. Next time, I am planning on experiencing a little more of the local history as there are some lovely old houses/ national trust places nearby! The owner was very nice and extremely welcoming; as far as amenities were concerned, she had thought of everything. The cakes on arrival were delicious! Due to the range of games available, my 11 year old son is now a monopoly enthusiast, to the point where we even purchased an Alton Towers copy!
Overall, the cottage was homely, comfortable and renovated perfectly with a balance of modern and authentic features, which we loved. We really couldn't fault our stay and would highly recommend Quarry House for people of all ages. We WILL be booking again shortly!

June 2015
The house was characterful, beautifully finished and comfortable. The gardens were immaculate, not to mention fully enclosed and secure for the dogs, and we were lucky enough to get a couple of warm, sunny days in which to sit out and enjoy it (the hammock was an additional nice touch!) It was in such a beautiful setting on the edge of a really peaceful wooded valley, with endless walks from the door.

This charming cottage had plenty of outside space. It was very well equipped with everything we needed, and more. The bed sheets were really high quality and a real luxury. The location was perfect as a base for exploring local attractions and countryside and the owner of the cottage goes the extra mile to help ensure guests feel welcome and are comfortable.

In beautiful surroundings. Accommodating owner and despite living in the house down the lane left us to enjoy our holiday but was available if we needed assistance. The standard of accommodation was excellent and the top quality bedding, towels and kitchen accessories were really appreciated. Thanks for a great holiday.

There is no doubt that Quarry House is in a lovely village and has great views. However our experience of staying here was very disappointing. The weather was chilly and wet for almost al of our stay. The house was cold on arrival, the underfloor heating set to come on at 4.30pm, we arrived at 4pm. The heating takes an absolute age to come on and the Rayburn/heating/water heating system in the dining room was incredibly noisy. Thermostats in the rooms were locked at a low temperature and could not be altered. The owner apparently altered the setting the next day at our request but quite honestly we could not tell the difference. The only saving grace was the woodburner in the lounge which kept us warm. Had it not been for that I think we would have left. The fridge needed defrosting badly - our eggs froze by the second day. Items of crockery were chipped, a mug was so tea stained I had to bleach it. There was a filthy radio in the kitchen, old sauce bottles, bits of food etc left in the cupboard by previous guests. All in all the downstairs of this place was very disappointing. The upstairs however was very nice; comfortable beds and good bed linen. Nice Jack and Jill shower room but irritating do and don't signs everywhere are not conducive to a feeling of being made welcome, comfort or relaxation. We had friends staying with us for the first two nights and they too were very surprised this place had been rated 5 ticks.

The cottage was sympathetically and tastefully decorated throughout. Rooms were spacious and very clean throughout. The location was scenic and remote enough in a peaceful hamlet, but near enough to other local amenities if required. The welcome and exchange in communications with the owner were always very professional and friendly.

We liked everything about our stay. The owners have thought of it all. Not once did we say oh if only we had remembered to bring because if we needed they had already provided it. From dressing gowns and slippers to walking boots. The beds were very comfortable and there were loads of pillows and towels.

My husband and I enjoyed a long weekend at Quarry House with a friend and her partner. It is such a beautiful house and the beds are extremely comfortable!!
On arrival we noticed that we had all the provisions we needed - tea bags, coffee, milk, sugar… the important stuff ;-) The owner had also made us a cake – which was delicious and they provided us with an information pack with lots of things to do.
Alton Towers is a 15 minute drive away which is a bonus.
We will definitely go back for another peaceful weekend away.

We all loved the cottage. It is beautiful on the outside and on the inside it continues to delight with everything you could need for a short break. The location is perfect - quiet and yet very close (5 minutes) to the national park and to Alton Towers (7 minutes) for example. It was important to us that our dog could saunter around the garden without the danger of escape! The property was very well enclosed and so this made us all relax very quickly. Our host, lived very close and was a pleasure to meet. She clearly wanted to make our stay everything it could be! We had a great time and recommend this property in every way.
