We had a lovely relaxing long weekend at Waterloo Cottage Annexe. It is beautifully situated beside the river Esk. There is something very peaceful and relaxing about a river; we watched the cattle from the field opposite come down to the river to drink and saw herons, swallows and of course the ducks. There is off road parking for your car and a nice little sun trap down by the shed. The flat itself was very clean and well presented with everything you would need. We will be back, for sure.

Sorry but we did not take this holiday due to last minute circumstances beyond our control.. We have no complaints and will stand the loss. We let Mrs Cleverley (the keyholder) know that we would not be coming. Many thanks and we are quite happy to book with you in the future.

The Cottage is a beautiful place and in a great location for walking and by just being on the river is picturesque and interesting, watching the wildlife from your sofa.. . It is definitely worth a visit and I will be back again next year. One small criticism is that the bed / mattress soft at edges with a feeling of rolling off

Stayed here over New Year. Absolutly loved it. So cozy but with every mod con. Fully equipped kitchen, modern shower room, central heating & log burner. Set on riverbank, lovely to open curtains in a morning and watch the wildlife( yes, there are regular visits from seals!) Ample garden & parking, dog friendly too. Excellant location in village, dog friendly pub two minute walk over the bridge. Fab butchers & small shop too. Easy walks into Whitby, nice to leave the car parked up & wander around Whitby. Really good base for visiting the area & quiet peaceful surroundings to return to. Cottage spotless on arrival & lots of information provided for guests. All in all, a special place to stay. We will be back!

Perfect cottage in an unrivalled location.. Surrounded by nature on the banks of the river Esk, we had a peaceful stay here over the New Year. Cosy accomodation suits any time of the year, as the village has a superb pub serving fine beer & food to die for. Also, the local butchers is a must for quality meats & cheeses. Easy walks into Whitby make this the perfect base to stay in. Owners are very helpful & the cottage is a home from home. The kitchen is well equipped, we cooked everything from full English breakfasts to roast dinners! Dog friendly too. So happy to have discovered this little gem.

We stayed at Waterloo Cottage annexe with our Welsh Terrier Rhia. She absolutely loved the garden chasing the ducks. The cottage has everything you need and in a great location right on the river. Watched fish jumping while having breakfast. 11/2 miles into Whitby along the rail track which, is a nice easy walk. Cinder track walk also accessible from cottage. Pub at end of Bridge dog friendly, with good food. Quite a busy road past cottage but shouldn't detract from a nice stay.

Waterloo cottage annex has everything you need.. It's clean, comfortable and well equipped, in a beautiful location at the side of the river. We have been twice now and will definitely be booking again!

The WiFi and phone signal is sporadic and this needs to be in the description of the accommodation.. Also although the cottage is right on the river it is also right on a surprisingly busy road. Otherwise we enjoyed the week in pleasant surroundings with a good bus services into Whitby. It should be noted that only the Middlesbrough trains stop at Ruswarp not the steam trains.. A good tip is take walking shoes as the walk into Whitby is through rough and dusty paths

The cottage is in an idyllic spot overlooking the river Esk with its abundance of wildlife to sit and watch from the cosy conservatory or at the steam train trundling by.. There are a few walking options into Whitby, all easy, which take about half an hour. The local pub was friendly and will soon be serving food again although eating in the cottage was never a hardship. Recommend getting the bus to Robin Hood's Bay and strolling back along the Cleveland Way coastal path if the weather is good, great views and fairly easy route. Highly recommended Waterloo Cottage and the area.

A very easy to find cottage with the instructions and just as we expected it to be.. Very comfortable with all the amenities described. Would be useful to know it sits on a tidal river as we were concerned at the height of the water when we arrived in the dark on a wet January day. Not sure if the water was going to overflow into the garden with more rain, so apprehensive about parking the car in there initially!

Good points: The cottage was lovely.. Going away at this time of year, it's always a bit of a worry that the heating may not be up to scratch, but this was the warmest place we've ever stayed! The porch was particularly useful for taking off dirty walking boots and cleaning grubby dogs before entering the cottage. The kitchen was well equipped and the oven worked well. The shower was extremely good, and the bed was very comfortable. Best of all, there were more than enough coat hangers in the wardrobe! Bad points: The lack of any kind of welcome pack on arrival (normally we would get at least some milk in the fridge and some teabags) and the fact that several comments that people put in the visitor book to do with the broken toilet seat do not seem to have been acted upon. Also the TV volume was very idiosyncratic - one minute it would be so quiet that the volume had to be on 100%, the next it was deafening and had to be turned down - all on the same programme on the same channel! Again, several people had commented on this and it wouldn't cost much to replace the TV for a newer (maybe slightly larger) model and avoid these adverse comments. Finally, the wifi wasn't working because the wifi extender wasn't connected to the router - I work in IT so was able to fix this so it does now work :-)

Waterloo Cottage Annexe is an absolute wonderful dream of a cottage! We travelled from Cheshire by train alighting at Ruswarp (Or Russop! As we were told it was pronounced by the locals) Station just across the river which was short walk over the bridge to the cottage - fantastic! The cottage had everything! Everything you could possibly need was there, and everything was of a very high standard. It was beautifully clean, and decorated in a pleasant and peaceful manner. We were amazed when we entered to discover that it was like The Tardis of Dr. Who! It appeared small and neat from the outside, but inside it was very large. The lounge is large enough to accommodate large round dining table and four very comfy dining chairs as well as two comfy sofas one which converts to the extra bed. There is an extra bonus of a conservatory with comfortable chairs and a table where we ate our breakfast every day enabling us to watch wildlife or the occasional canoeists. It was wonderful seeing the Kingfishers glinting in the sun and the ducks were fun to watch as they made a bee-line across to the cottage every time you walked out on the garden or patio expecting a feed! There were lovely easy walks into Whitby from the cottage and were easy enough for us two oldies (75 & 85) to enjoy! There was a choice of buses from Whitby up and down the coast. All in all, it was a wonderful holiday in a wonderful cottage and also, for which we were grateful - Wonderful weather! Although I think we would have enjoyed ourselves just as much anyway in such delightful surroundings! A very big 'Thank you!' to Nicola and Dave for making us so very welcome and also Jill who kept the place pristine!

August 2017
I visited this cottage with my 6 year old daughter and apart from a couple of niggling things enjoyed every minute. It's position is fantastic, garden is lovely and the cottage itself is well equipped and an excellent place to explore North Yorkshire from. The steam trains can be seen across the river and the river itself has many ducks, swans, cormorants plus a seal apparently. My daughter loved feeding the ducks every morning and night, there is no fence between the garden and the river but this is noted in the details but I think it would spoil the garden doing this so just have to keep an eye on youngsters as it is a steep drop. Ruswarp itself is lovely, we have been to North Yorkshire many times but not here before, the steam train from Goathland to Whitby is as good as ever, plenty to entertain children with Monks Farm and Playdale being particular favourites for my daughter. We visited the new aqua park in Scarborough, slides aren't really suitable for young children but worth a visit but expect it to be expensive with parking and extra charges if you stay over 4 hours. The niggling things were the TV volume shot up and down depending which channel you were watching plus it would have been nice to have some control over the heating.....being next to a river and the week was mixed so first thing in the morning my daughter said she was cold but apart from that it was brilliant and I would fully recommend it......we have already booked for next year so I had better start collecting that bread for the ducks!

Never have I found such a gem of a cottage. It was so well equipped, comfy and wwelcoming I almost cried on leaving. The wildlife was amazing, sitting in bed watching the kingfisher darting up the river was a real bonus. The log burner was fantastic at this time of year, the welcome pack of logs, wine and chocolates was a lovely touch. Can't wait to book again,

Beautiful cottage in an idyllic spot. The location is great for visiting Whitby and the North Yorks Moors. What a find, its a dream of a place. Lovely comfortable cottage with views to die for. It is set right on the river bank, when you are inside you feel as thoughyou are on a boat. The garden is part of the river bank fenced off, where you can sit and watch the great wild life, we saw the seal every day and herons , swans etc. Ruswarp is a lovely village with a good food pub which is dog friendly. On the other side of the river is a footpath which is one and a half miles to whitby.

May 2014
WOW! It was so lovely at Waterloo Cottage, very comfy, especially the bed! The garden was a pleasure to sit in and walk round, but most of all the location was just brilliant, we just loved it and so did our collie. We were lucky with the weather and to sit there in the morning with our coffee or in the evening with a glass wine was so relaxing. There were two herons on the bank opposite, lots of ducks with their young and a beautiful swan who came to see us each day.

April 2014
The cottage is beautiful and relaxing, the garden perfect. The walk into Whitby is excellent even my 93 year old mother managed the walk with ease. Nearby Foss Falls is beautiful and the cafe there is wonderful. Rowing on the river is a real treat. The nearby butchers is excellent, we didn't even cook a breakfast, we just bought sandwiches from there every morning. The Bridge Inn just a few minutes walk away is lovely, everyone is friendly and they serve excel.lent food. Will definitely return again.

Both the cottage and the garden were very good standard. The location next to the river was perfect and because the weather was so hot we did spend quite a lot of time in the garden, relaxing. The village location made it easy to travel to the local areas as well as Whitby, which was also in walking distance. We had a very enjoyable holiday.

The cottage felt more like our home than a rental cottage and all the lovely small touches had been thought of; firewood for log burner (gas heating excellent)& firelighter kits, tea lights, binoculars & bird books, all "extra's" for kitchen etc. Weather was not good enough to take advantage of the lovely riverside garden and to use the sun room much but with 2 large windows in the lounge overlooking the picturesque river we were very happy just to sit and enjoy!

We traveled as a family of 3, my husband, our 10 year old daughter and myself plus our 6 month old labrador logan!. The booking was so smooth, the owner was a lovely lady, very helpful. This place has the WOW factor, right on the river esk, large garden for pets and parking, When we arrived the heating had been left on for our arrival, which was lovely as it has been a little nippy, we had wood waiting for us so we could light the stove as soon as we got in, lovely as we had brought our own from home but didn't need to. The place was spotless, not to mention the most well equipt place we have ever stayed, there was even washing up liquid, dish washer tabs and wash powder if we needed it and more plates, cups and glasses than u can shake a stick at. The bedroom was lovely, roomy with a nice comfy bed, views to die for, the sofa bed was very comfy, our daughter loved having a double bed all to herself. we had all mod cons and we took our wii which kept us all entertained. The little porch is great for sitting and watching the world and wildlife go past. We even got to see the seal that lives in the river!! The pub just at the bottom of blue bank in slights does lovely food and real ales, not to mention the pub not 5 mins walk over the bridge from the cottage, there's also a butchers in slights as well as the one in Runswarp it's self. Your only 2 mins drive from Whitby, and there's loads of lovely walks for all the family. So all in all we had the best 3 nights and really didn't want to leave and looking at the guest book everyone that has stayed here is of the same opinion. Please go visit waterloo cottage annexe amazing place at a fab price.

Me and my husband are in our early 30's and spent a week at Waterloo Cottage in November 2012, it was lovely, comfy, clean , modern and had everything you could want !! home from home. The location is excellent as the cottage is right on the river bank, the first night we arrived we were lucky enough to see the local seal ! We thought for a weeks stay the cottage was great value for money and I would defiantly recommend a stay here. On the site it states the cottage sleeps 4 however there is only one bedroom the sofa in the living room turns in to a bed not really idea for families but great for couples !! There is no parking at the side of the house as the house is directly on the road with only a small footpath. To park you have to open the garden gates and park on the garden in the cottage grounds you just have to be careful when entering and leaving as its poor visibility. The owner is lovely to she rang to give us information before our stay and told us we could ring her if we needed any further information . All in all I would defiantly recommend the cottage perfect week for either relaxing , walking or driving round North Yorkshire taking in the views and sight seeing.

December 2012
The quiet location by the river and it wasn't too far to travel to from home. The cottage was perfect size for me and my husband and the fact that we could take the dog for some lovely walks was a benefit. It was 5 minutes by car to centre of Whitby although it is in walking distance. The owner had put some Christmas decorations up as well which was a nice touch.

We stayed at Waterloo Cottage annexe for 2 weeks in June and had a great time. The location was perfect for us, lots of private space, great views and plenty of wildlife, including 2 young seals frolicking in the water a few metres from the cottage. Plenty of good walks in the area and a lovely shortish walk into Whitby. If you plan your route you can have a longish outward walk and catch the train back. A trip to Sleights is well worth it. The accomodation is spacious for 2, and very tastefully furnished and equipped, all comforts provided, including the lovely bed! As it was quite wet some days, we really appreciated the small 'conservatory' - sufficient space to sit down and take off dripping kagouls and muddy walking boots. We take regular cottage holidays and would highly recommend this cottage

August 2012
Fantastic accommodation in a picturesque location. Great for those who love wildlife in a quiet area away from the crowds yet still within reach of areas of interest. Pleased we could take our dog too who enjoyed the private garden and looking out onto the river. Would highly recommend.
