Property has a broken window lock in the conservatory.. Draft when the wind was blowing. 5th year of using this property. Great location, despite Covid restrictions.

August 2020
The accommodation was perfect in every way.. Extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location was great for us to be able to access Whitby easily along the various paths and find quiet routes in without taking the car. Overlooking the water was very calming. Kids loved the house and garden with the river to feed the ducks and see the trains going past, it was particularly nice to wave to the steam trains. The butchers in the village is excellent, also great to have the village shop and pub. We’re were kept busy in Whitby - the beach, park and museum but would love to come back and use this as a base to explore a bit further a field and to hire boats / canoes on the river - this looks very cool!

This house is a dream come true, the cleanliness and decor in the house is outstanding, the situation backing onto the river far exceeded anything we expected; kingfishers, heron, jumping fish, crabs, and SEALS! !! Waving to the steam train was a treat and the proximity to row boats and the mini steam train was fab. Unreserved recommend for a family holiday.

What a fantastic property! The position is superb overlooking the river. We loved being able to spend time in the conservatory and in the garden watching the ducks and trains passing. It was like being at home - there was ample pots and pans to enable cooking and it was great to have a washing machine and dishwasher. My husband and I had the ground floor bedroom and our grownup children and their partners the top floor bedrooms - this was great as my husband is less mobile but this did not stop us enjoying time in the large 1st floor lounge which had a superb interactive TV. The butchers in the village is great and we sampled the sausages and the pies. We walked into Whitby twice and returned once on the bus which cost £1.80 each and also in a taxi which cost £6. The position is great for exploring the area but it was great to return to Waters Edge as it was like returning home. The only negative we found were the beds as we found them too soft as we are used to more firm mattresses and the bed on the ground floor creaks. We have had a great holiday in a great property and fantastic weather. Thankyou

Water's Edge, what a little gem.. The accommodation had everything as you would at home. Loved the conservatory overlooking the River, a real nature's paradise even adding the excitement of seeing a seal in the river. Enjoyed seeing the NYMR steam/diesel trains each day and waving to the passengers. The lounge was excellent and the seating so comfy you didn't want to move. Overall we would definitely book again as it was located perfectly for us and the pub, butchers and local cafes are a must. Enjoy as much as we did.

We were very impressed with the amenities, cleanliness, decor and position of water's edge.. It accommodated our family of eight easily and we enjoyed the use of the terrace in the back garden which overlooked the river and the Esk Valley railway.
Mrs Scott, May 2019
April 2019
The house is well equipped and very comfortable but I didn't consider it quiet as it's not far from a busy t-junction and I found the road noisy when in bed.. Also there is a church clock which rings every hour and the diesel trains are noisy with their loud horns. However, you do get used to it as the week progresses. The beds are very comfortable and the house felt very homely. But the steps! The stairs I found to be very steep and I'm sure we gave the neighbours a laugh as we hung onto the railings as we left and returned to the house, as each step to the front door is very high. I would recommend it to someone probably younger and fitter but it wasn't the right fit for us.

December 2018
We booked Water's Edge for Christmas last minute as our new kitchen wasn't finished.. It was in a lovely, peaceful location and we enjoyed sitting in the conservatory overlooking the river. The house was big enough to accommodate 6 adults and 2 children. There was plenty of crockery (although some were chipped), cutlery, glasses and pans for us. The kitchen cupboards had lots of half used jars of jam, ketchup, coffee, some out date, and there was salt in the sugar caddy! The freezer and microwave were behind the kitchen door which was awkward when someone wanted to be in or out of the kitchen. The dishwasher didn't always work first time but we always managed eventually. It was a bit of a squash seating 8 round the table. Upstairs the lounge was enormous, plenty of room for all of us, we even did one of the jigsaws in the cupboard, and we all wanted to sit on the chaise longue! The beds on the top floor were comfy, although the downstairs bed was very creaky. The property was clean but there were a few stains on the bedroom carpets. We had a meal at the Stables which was lovely and we can recommend the pies from the butchers in the village.

December 2017
Had a great Christmas week at Waters Edge.. Was so pleased that the house was exactly as the pictures with lovely furniture and extremely well kept. It was a lovely house with plenty of crockery and utensils for our party of eight. Great to sit in the conservatory watching the ducks on the river and plenty of room for us all to relax in the wonderful lounge. Local butcher in Ruswarp did amazing pork pies! Location was great - just around the corner from the great local pub where the locals made us feel very welcome, and an easy 20 minute walk into Whitby. Also visited Robins Hood Bay, a short 10 min drive which had fabulous views, and such a pretty village. Would definitely recommend the house, and would happily stay there again.

This is our second visit to Water's Edge, which tells a story in itself. There is something for everyone here. Starting with the location, Water's Edge is nicely placed on a river in the quiet village of Ruswarp. It is possible to walk into Whitby in 30 mins, along the path between the river and the railway. Whitby itself has so much to do that it would be impossible to list here. We made the most of the town, including the mandatory fish and chips and visit to the Abbey. The nearest supermarkets are a 10 min drive away from the property. We also made the most of the easy access to the off road cycle path which goes from Whitby to Scarborough. Within walking distance there is boat rental for the river, a café, miniature railway and a local shop. The property itself is well equipped, clean and nicely maintained. The rear of the property has a nice outdoor seating area and a conservatory, so that you can enjoy the views of the river and the passing of the North Yorks Moors Railway trains come rain or shine. There is a platform that goes down to the river's edge so that you can feed the ducks or even launch a boat if you wanted. The rest of the property is well laid out. Our only feeling about how it could be improved would be to have one of the double rooms converted to a twin so that sleeping arrangement would be more versatile. We would love to return to this delightful holiday cottage. Having been twice, we'd be very happy to come back and do it all over again.

September 2017
The quality of the property was excellent, all of the furnishings were very good quality.. We enjoyed the view of the river and it was a bit like the railway children when the Steams trains came past and everyone was waving.

This house is amazing and I cannot recommend it enough - great so close to the river and steam trains, house very well equipped with everything you could wish for - thanks to the owners for lots of careful thought. Beds really comfy and lots of storage. The conservatory was a great place to spot the herons and kingfishers along with the residents ducks of course!! Loads to do in the immediate area - boating down the road along with mini train and Mini Monsters with climbing wall which was a great hit with our 7 year old!! Lots to do further afield and beautiful moors with gorgeous purple heather in bloom!! Great quiet village with wonderful butchers and lovely walk to Whitby with the river on one side and railway line on the other - amazing to see a steam train so close!!! We all had such a great time we booked again for next year before we even got home!!! Thanks again - we are all excited about next summer already!!

After spending the last 4 holidays travelling around Wales, this year we wanted to go somewhere different. Having to accommodate 3 seniors, 2 adults and 2 under 10s isn't always easy. Found this property via Sykes. This is a fantastic place to stay!! 3 double bedrooms and 1 bunk bedroom, very large lounge, nice well equipped kitchen, conservatory, garden with patio, a river, ducks, herons, kingfishers and a steam train passing the back garden. Everyone had a fantastic time. Easy 1 mile walk to Whitby. Jackson butcher in the village is fab, must try his pork pies!! We have done something we have never done before and have re-booked for next year, before we even got home!!

We stayed here as two families, five adults and a baby overall, and had a wonderful time. Great quality facilities, big TV, TV in the dining room with a built in kitchen next to it, the balcony was lovely and we enjoyed waving to the steam train going past all day. The bedding was nice, the shower was good and the location great too with easy access to Whitby and the coast by road, rail or foot. Staying over the three floors was a bit of a workout and not great for someone who isn't as mobile as they used to be but overall it was great.

We had a wonderful holiday at Water's Edge. We turned up earlier than expected and at the same time as the cleaners, but the cleaners were so lovely and understanding. The propert itself is very comfortable, spacious, modern and has an interesting aspect at the back ot the house looking over the river and at the stem trains as they passed by. Don't be put off by the trains, they did not bother us at all. The nearby cafe where the boats can be hired from serves excelent food and their latte's were voted the best ever! We visited Whitby, Goathland, Robin Hood's Bay, Saltburn by The Sea, Sandsend, all of which portray the beauty of Yorkshire. The best bit of the holiday was the comfiness of the property, the worst bit was only having one front door key (we had two families staying together) and the Keybox on the front of the house was not easy to use. I would thoroughly recommend the property and we intend to go again. Nb: Our party consited of adults and a newborn baby so I do not know how children would cope with the steps into the property and at the back of the property.
