Area
At the mouth of the River Esk in North Yorkshire's Scarborough region sits the seaside town and port of Whitby. The area is perfectly positioned for visiting this stunning region of Yorkshire, and it offers a wide range of activities so you can make the most of both the countryside and the seaside. There is something for everyone in this area, from the adjacent North York Moors to its Blue Flag beaches. Among its many attractions, Whitby has a beautiful ambience with meandering streets and obscure alleys that are home to a variety of restaurants and businesses. Visit the charming waterfront and lighthouse to watch the sun go down, or go whale watching or on a coastal cruise to see the wildlife up close. To immerse yourself in history, ascend the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey or go to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, which features a historical and anthropological display on Cook himself. Whitby is a fantastic location for discovering all that Yorkshire has to offer. It is close to Robin Hood's Bay, rich in history, wonders, and scenic areas, and is easily accessible from the thriving towns of Scarborough and Middlesbrough.
