DO NOT STAY HERE! We stayed one of three nights booked. The 2 staircases are seriously dangerous. One loose handrail and no handrail/banister to stop someone falling from the first floor down to the kitchen. My husband slept in the ground floor kitchen and put stuff in the way to stop our dog trying to get upstairs. We were told this place was pet friendly, it's not even human friendly. We were told that the owner was aware of the issues but had said it was not feasible to sort. A joke, it would take two or three hours following a trip to B&Q. We complained and received a £200 refund, which means we paid £354 for one night sleeping on the kitchen floor. Please don't stay here, it's an accident waiting to happen, and several messages relating to the problem were left in the visitor's book dating back over a year.

This place is a little gem . Beautiful and very old fisherman cottage . It's our last night as I write this and we have had a lovely few days here . The cottage is right in the heart of Whitby and very close to the Abbey and two minute walk to the centre and harbour. Great place all you need is provided . There are a few steps to get to the cottage but good exercise. The stairs take a little getting used to as two flights of tight spiral staircases to the top floor but bear in mind the age of the cottage and when it was built which gives it great character . Lovely and clean .

There was an awful smell as you opened the door.. I had to take frozen items out of the freezer compartment so I could use it. The mop bucket was full of sludge. The hand rail on the first stair case was loose. when on the first the lounge area was not comfortable. The plumbing in the bathroom had a mind of its own. The toilet flushed when it wanted to. We could not run enough hot water for the bath, also the plug did not fit, so water ran out. it said there would be toilet paper provided. There was a tiny amount. When on the 2nd floor you were met with a fraid carpet at the top. The double bed was not fit to sleep in, it creaked and moved. The spare bedroom window was in the roof. This had a hole in it so you could see the outside. We only stayed one night. The whole place needed a revamp. through the gaps.

Unfortunately this pretty cottage is not being maintained or cleaned as it should be. Rodents have eaten through the feed to the dishwasher so when we switched it on it caused a flood. The cupboard under the sink in the kitchen was strewn with droppings and bits of chewed pipe (photo supplied) I do not feel the owner took this seriously. This property should be deep cleaned, a pest control company brought in and the wiring checked before it is let again.
