There is something for everyone in this area, from the adjacent North York Moors to its Blue Flag beaches. Among its many attractions, Whitby has a beautiful ambience with meandering streets and obscure alleys that are home to a variety of restaurants and businesses. Visit the charming harbour and lighthouse to watch the sun go down, or go whale watching or on a coastal cruise to see the wildlife up close. To immerse yourself in history, ascend the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey or go to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, which features a historical and anthropological display about Cook himself.
