Cons: cleanliness is very, very poor.. we ended up leaving this booking after 4 nights due to the poor hygiene of the property. When we arrived, there was a lump of fat in the sink, hair in the shower, hair around the bathroom sink, stains in the toilet, grease and food down the oven door, mould in the cooking pans, rusty pizza trays, half eaten pizza under the sofa, chocolate wrappers under the bed, dirt and coffee down the side of the sofa, pet hair on the rug & more. We managed four nights until we decided to go... we did not contact the owner before leaving as they would not have been able to solve all these issues for us in our stay and we actually would have felt very uncomfortable having them come into the property and clean it whilst my mum was in bed with a migraine from stress. There was a dirty cloth left in one of the bins when we arrived. They need to upgrade massively - the place needs a huge deep clean. Id say they need to buy a new kettle (it was disgusting), new pans, a new oven.. if you aren’t bothered about cleanliness then yes this cottage is fine. My mum had such bad anxiety over the stay she ended up poorly in bed for a day and it really did ruin our trip. She paid for this as a treat for us both. I contacted the owner via Sykes and they decided not to refund us for the nights we left as we had left a review sykes and they weren’t given change to sort the issues whilst we were there.. but it shouldn’t be like this. We shouldn’t have to be removing other people’s hair from a shower and half eaten pizza from the floor.. I think this is awful! Please avoid if you can, - we have been going to North Yorkshire for 20+ years and there are much much nicer places to stay! The Bay holiday park was cleaner than here! Pros: it’s close to Filey, they left a nice welcome basket with treats in. The garden was also nice and there was a very small parking space out the front.

We had a lovely stay at Sunnyside, the cottage was fabulous (the website photos don't give it justice). The cleanliness was outstanding and the Covid guidelines were all in place. We felt very comfortable. The owners are very helpful and friendly and all the extras were very much appreciated. My husband had an accident before our holiday and the owners went above and beyond in accommodating his needs. We would highly recommend a holiday at Sunnyside and we will definitely stay again.

Sunnyside has a high standard of cleanliness more so in these stressful time.. We were extremely comfortable in cottage, lovely village with very friendly neighbours, great pub few steps away, but be warned.. portions are huge.. I learned and ordered smaller portions!.. Fabulous log burner which we enjoyed especially our 9month Miniature Dachshund Winifred. This cottage is a gem in a holiday home and a great find, hopefully we will return.. soon.. John, Linda and Winifred.

The cottage was lovely and the owners had a left a welcome note and some provisions which was a nice touch.. It was clean and we felt safe during these unprecedented times. Cottage was on a busy road that we weren’t aware off. A lovely location to discover the spectacular coast line and walks that Yorkshire has to offer. Distance from Cottage to Filey beach was a 30 minute walk which was beautiful and a bonus we could walk. Local pub The Ship Inn offered good food and a warm welcome. Dog friendly too. Definitely recommend a visit.

Fantastic cottage, very clean and fully equipt with everything you need.. Great central location for exploring the busier seaside towns or the more rural loactions. Fabulous dog friendly beaches at Cayton Bay and Hunmanby Gap. The welcome basket was a lovely touch. The Ship Inn just up the road served delicious home cooked meals with plently of outside seating and dogs welcome. Great off road parking was a bonus. The courtyard was perfect for outside dining as was the seperate garden. Plently of space for the children and dog to stretch their legs whilst the adults sat and relaxed after a busy day. Lots of space inside the cottage too. An ideal place to stay and we would definately book again.

Fantastic little cottage, we were a family of four plus our Labrador & had a great week in the house.. Even during the strange times of Covid where holiday houses (we own one too so know how hard it is to strike a balance) are stripping back on non essential items, the house had everything we needed with some extra touches. We all really enjoyed the garden which is a sun trap, the dog probably the most. It it a 45 minute walk into the centre of Filey but you can knock 5 minutes off if you use the Wolds Way footpath into town, The local pub was very good for proper pub food, nothing too fancy but great quality traditional meals. You really need to book especially at present (August 2020).

Generally really enjoyed the cottage, took a bit of time to get it warmed up, as it had been empty since November, although the storage heaters were on, this time of year you need the fire on, which we did, although the logs left were a little damp, but we persevered and sorted it, generally pretty minor things, we would stay there again

The off-road parking space is too small for a average size car which means you have to park on quite a busy road outside the cottage..

Another lovely stay at this lovely little cottage in muston near Filey. Always clean and well kept! Ideal for owners with pets as there is a small courtyard but also a secluded garden at the back which is great for dogs to roam securely . Ideal location to visit different places including Filey which is close by either around 10 mins in the car or for walkers about 40 - 50 mins. Lovely village pub the ship inn which serves lovely home made pub food and always very welcoming! Walk to hunmanby village is about 30 mins which has a path all the way along the road where you will find few pubs again the white swan serving good food which is very cheap !! Would recommend the Downcliffe hotel along Filey front for a nice beverage or two and to sit and watch the world go by ! Would definitely recommend this cottage for an ideal base to explore the area!! The Clark family x

March 2019
Very happy with cottage although felt a bit open in kitchen at night as no blinds.. Garden was lovely and ideal for our dog but not ideal having to go out gate and down what appeared to be a public footpath (especially when ponies in field). I felt that this should have been highlighted on site. I loved the cottage itself but may have given second thought due to the garden position. All in all though lovely place

Sunnyside Cottage gives you a warm welcome & relaxed feeling.. It was cosy, homely, very clean & equipped with everything you need. My husband & I liked it so much that we booked to stay for an extra week. We sent the owners a text out of courtesy, to let them know we were staying on, a short while later I received a phone call from the owners to say thank you, how lovely & unexpected, that really is exceptional customer service & shows what pride they have in the cottage.

June 2018
The cottage was lovely and perfect for our needs.. The second bedroom with twin beds was very small with little legroom between the beds and there wasn't a photo of this when I booked unusually. It wasn't a problem however as there was only myself in that room but for two people in there and the heat we have experienced, it probably would have been uncomfortable. There was the best welcome pack ever I have to say in my experience of renting holiday cottages. Although we didn't find any shops in the village, there was a quiet country pub only 50 yards away and but Hunmanby and Filey are only a short distance away. All in all a lovely holiday cottage.

February 2018
This is a lovely cottage in a great spot.. We only stayed a couple of nights and the cottage met all of our needs. The kitchen was well equipped, the bathroom clean and spacious and the bed very comfy. A few reviews have commented on the heating which I wanted to touch on. The cottage has wall heaters with easy to follow instructions on how to optimise the heat output. There is a toastie log burner, blankets and even hot water bottles. During our stay in February I didn't once feel cold. I'd definitely recommend and we'd definitely stay again.

November 2017
Comfortable cottage with everything you could possibly need provided.. Liked the goody basket {as did the dog}, the bed was exceptionally comfortable and everything was perfectly clean and well decorated. Comfortable sofas and a roomy kitchen. There was plenty of hot water and as much heat as we could have wanted from very efficient night storage heaters. The dog loved the garden and the nearby country walks. the cottage was only 5 mins from Filey beach and seafront and Filey is a beautiful place. The pub in Muston was dog friendly and the food was excellent. The locals included us in their conversations and the pub staff were very friendly.

Lovely cottage.. Fab location, welcome basket on arrival a lovely touch. Everything needed and more and great friendly owners. Fab base to explore the local Yorkshire coast and Moors. Pub in the village quirky and friendly with good home cooked grub. Recommend China China in Filey for home delivery to Muston. Highly recommend this cottage, many thanks.

Ideal location for North Yorkshire only niggle was the Snicket pathway which is used by a lot of people and a blind at kitchen window would be useful.. Overall a very welcoming dog friendly lovely cottage would recommend and hope to return

January 2017
It was a very cold January on our arrival, missed the central heating though soon got to grips with the wood burner.. The local pub, The Ship Innn was fabulous winter and all, my little dog loved the fire once he got used to it, laid on the rug panting, took me back a few years. Dogs just love warmth, he rolled on his back on the rug, legs in the air, loved the heat. The cottage was clean and quality, loved the crisp fresh cotton sheets, Muston is a lovely village. I feel very rested, and sad to be home. I miss the wood burner, and the jewel and penny, the horses next door, location is excellent, thank you to the owners of this cottage and it's facilities, the welcome pack was wonderful, j jay enjoyed his dog treats, as we enjoyed the fresh eggs and the rest

We actually discovered Sunnyside Cottage for the first time this year in March and enjoyed our stay so much we returned in October too. This cottage is maintained by the owners and you can tell, there's just a little bit more care that goes into getting it ready for guests arrival, no dust anywhere etc! Plus on both occasions we were greeted with a cute welcome basket, including bread, eggs and treats for our dog. Loved the range cooker and we had all the amenities to cook as if at home, far too much time spent around the kitchen table in the evenings! That said, that was partly down to the fact we got the log burner going so well it was a bit too warm in the living room at points. The cottage is in a lovely little village with a character packed (dog friendly) pub just a few doors along. Happy to recommend the Ship Inn, ate there a number of times including Sunday lunch but be warned do arrive hungry! The locals were really very welcoming too. Muston is a great location for dog walking, we went across the meadows to Gristhorpe, parked at Reighton for a meadow walk to Hunmanby Gap and then a beach walk back. There are lots of locations to enjoy walks and pub lunches, if you choose to stay here so many are mentioned in the visitors book in the cottage. We'll definitely be booking again.
