We had a very comfortable stay at Belle Vue cottage - it was very homely and had all the facilities we needed.. We especially liked the lounge on the second floor which was light and cosy. Osmotherley is a lovely village with a handy shop selling basic provisions, a very nice coffee shop with fantastic cake and 3 pubs. We ate at the Golden Lion twice and would recommend. Only had a drink at the Three Tuns because, unusually for a pub it stopped serving food at 6pm - really only a lunch time pub. The village is in a great location to easily access the Moors, the Dales and the Coast and we explored all three. Also had a great day out in York which is only 40 minutes drive away (park at Rawcliffe Park and Ride). There is a lovely walk from the village to Mount Grace Priory and Cod Beck reservoir (approx. 6 mile circular). We visited Runswick bay and Whitby, Hutton Le Hole, Helmsley, Leyburn, Redmire and Castle Bolton (with a ride back on the Wensleydale steam train). Also recommend Sutton bank for cycling/walking with amazing views. The only word of warning about the cottage is that if you have a long car ( we have a Landrover Discovery), the driveway is very short and the back of the car hangs over the quite busy road so a bit precarious getting things in/out the boot. Also once parked you can't access the freezer and washing machine in the garage! This is just a small thing though - we had a great stay.
