Bousdale Cottage

This cottage met all our expectations.. The cottage was clean, comfortable and warm. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was lovely.We had two dogs with us and it was a pleasure to walk them nearby. Often cottages say you can walk straight from the door but they dont really but in this instance they really do and the enclosed area of the cottage is very secure.This cottage is a gem and I recommend it to you all.

The cottage was lovely & cosy with beautiful walks right on the doorstep and the coast a 15 minute drive away. The owners had left a little welcome pack along with a bottle of wine & some chews for our furry family members. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay & wouldn't hesitate to go back again. My son was disappointed he hadn't taken his mountain bike

Very comfortable and well appointed; off the beaten track, literally, so no noisy neighbours or passing traffic.. Ideal location for touring the Northern Parts of the North Yorkshire Moors and only 30 minutes to Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Would definitely stay again, First Class all round.

This was our first visit to Yorkshire and was a lovely week spent in Bousdale Cottage.. Ruth was very welcoming and friendly and helpful with telling us about the area and places we might want to visit. We had our Border Collie Chester with us and he loved it to. There was a lovely welcome bag when we arrived including a bottle of wine and treats for Chester and other treats. We had everything we needed in the cottage and there were lots of lovely walks locally in the National Park. We felt very relaxed during our stay. Due to the Covid-19 situation I know things aren't and can't be the same as before and I know Ruth said there had been quite a few changes to what she can do now but none of that spoilt our holiday. Thanks again for a lovely week in Bousdale Cottage.

Not just my own experience but from others who have booked through Sykes Cottages, you will always get a first class experience.. This return visit met our expectations and more. This owners were helpful and hospitable. The cottage was tastefully decorated in keeping with the age of the cottage and setting. Exceptionally clean and set in an idyllic location where peace and harmony comes part of the package. Will definitely be booking with Sykes again.

This was such a lovely cottage.. Perfect for staying with our one year old with excellent facilities provided. We would defintely recommend and only wish we could have stayed longer!

The cottage was lovely and exactly as described.. We (and the dogs) really enjoyed being able able to walk into the woods straight from the door. Our time there was very wet and muddy meaning we needed to find a launderette to wash the dog towels - a washing machine (maybe in the courtyard shed outbuilding) would have been helpful. We will go again.

Very welcoming cottage comfortable and relaxing.. Excellently placed for walking - just off one of the major paths - straight out of the door and up into the hills and woods. The cottage and indeed the whole area is very dog friendly - our Border Collie gave it 11 out of 10. If you feel like something different Guisborough is just up the road and has a lovely old priory. Whitby and Salburn are only 45 minutes away. Just a word if you are taking your dog to the beach it pays to check where they are permitted during the tourist season. In summary we realy enjoyed our expereience at Bousdale Cottage and would definitely recommend it

The photos don’t do the cottage justice.. The garden is stunning and most of the furniture and equipment has been upgraded. The hosts go out of their way to help and are very welcoming. Flapjack and wine on arrival were very much appreciated. The walks through the woods straight out of the property are great for dogs and the location means there’s hardly any traffic. Will go there again!

We had a wonderful week at Bousdale Cottage.. The cottage is in a great location for walking from the door up to the forest and Moors, and also close to the coast for Saltburn and visiting Whitby. The garden is exceptional - a beautiful retreat full of roses and foxgloves to sit out - very private and quiet, with a separate terrace at the back that gets the evening sun. The amenities in the cottage are very good and it feels very snug and bright with some lovely touches in decoration and pictures. Ruth and Steve were very warm, helpful and welcoming hosts - thank-you!

This is a fantastic cottage in a great location.. The owners who live in the adjacent cottage are wonderful and cannot do enough to make you feel welcome without being intrusive.

WONDERFUL SO WELCOMING A lovely welcome with bottle wine shortbread and even treats for the dogs.. First impression on entering was warmth and lovely fresh smell. The countryside and walks great cosy evenings by a log fire. All and more than we could have wished for. Can't wait to go back

Awesome place! Lovely welcome and the owners are extremely helpful. Only down side is no freezer but supermarkets are only a mile away. The walks straight out of the wonderful garden are fantastic, the dogs loved it too. Already booked again for next June!

A lovely cottage in an outstanding location.. The whole experience was very enjoyable. The owners were away at the time so a local contact would have been useful as we were unable to get the heating to work despite the written instructions left in the cottage. I have used Sykes several times and have never been disappointed.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the brand new bathroom and rear entrance room which was brilliant for coats, boots etc. The owners have provided new pans and kitchen tools, everything was very fresh! Garden is huge and a delight! Have booked again for later in the year!

The cottage has everything you need.. It's in a very beautful and peaceful setting. Owners are in property next door and are extremely friendly and helpful but do not interfere in any way. Guisborough is a pleasant little town within easy distance and has all yhe shops you need. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area. Can recommend this cottage unreservedly.

This cottage is in a very good rural location away from main roads and near to woodland and many footpaths.. It is very well appointed and very comfortable. This was our second trip and we will be back later in the year.

Lovely cottage with walks from door and easy access to moors and coast.. Enclosed yard ideal for our two dogs although you are allowed access to large shared (with owner) front garden. Made to feel very welcome by owner Ruth. Pretty and peaceful. Would definitely return.

Lovely location so peaceful and tranquil real escape from hustle and bustle of today's world.. Real doggie walking heaven lots of lovely walks in local area. Pickering (for North Yorkshire Railway) Whitby Saltburn Redcar Goathland Rievaux Abbey Barnard Castle Robin Hood Bay andsomuchmore all within 1 hours driving. Gorgeous drives through Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales. Absolute bliss a touch of heaven for us all

This Cottage nestles in the countryside which is stunning. There are plenty of walks straight from the door - brilliant if you have a dog. The cottage itself was really good - very clean and comfortable and the garden was large and well kept with plenty of seating. Its a place we will be going back to - so relaxing.

The very rural location of Bousdale Cottage is excellent for the many local amenities, especially walking and cycling but also has access to local facilities such as shops buses. The standard, finish and comfort in the cottage is excellent in all respects.

Lovely clean cottage in a quiet location.Very comfortable and ideal if you have a dog. Plenty of places to walk either direct from the cottage or a short car ride away. Another bonus are the empty beaches close by.

We booked this cottage because it had an enclosed garden and we were taking our dogs. However, the enclosed garden was the owner's garden (they have a dog and two cats) and I felt it was invading their privacy to use the garden so we only used the little patio outside the back door. That was very pretty and I will say we could walk the dogs around the rear of the property and that was very private down a track leading from the public right of way round the edge of the fields so not too much of a problem. The owners were very friendly and helpful and have renovated the cottage to a high standard. The real problem we had was that our dogs are used to being kept in the kitchen at night and, although we put their beds in the kitchen, if you wanted to go to the loo at night from either bedroom you had to walk through the kitchen which actually meant our dogs had free rein to run around all night because shutting them up was pointless!! They loved it but it did mean they kept coming into the bedrooms and, because the floors, very sensibly, are covered in washable timber lookalike flooring, lots of little noisy paddy paws tends to make for a disturbed night. Again, this was not too much of a problem because the owners kindly let them sleep on the furniture which I did cover so that the dogs would not damage anything. They were very miffed on being returned to the kitchen once we got home!! I realise this all seems like a whinge but it is not really, just something that needs to be pointed out if you want a peaceful night and do not need to shut your dogs up. We were a little disconcerted to find that the bathroom had no blind and although it only overlooked the private patio there is nothing to stop anyone from walking past and looking into the window. That might never happen but a little more privacy would be nice! Unfortunately, like most of this Summer, the weather was horrible and after two nights of putting on the heating we decided home would be more comfortable so left early but that is no reflection on the owners or the property. However, now we know the layout of the property, we would probably not return.

The best holiday cottage we have rented by far. It was perfectly located for lovely walks through woods and hills. Our dog and children loved it. A very quiet place, situated on a farm track but with lots of friendly walkers coming and going by. It was a very short drive into Guisborough for shopping, which is a nice town with everything you need. I can't fault the property, it's immaculate inside and the garden is so pretty. The owner couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. I would love to stay there again and highly recommend it. It was only 15mins to the coast too!

It is hard to describe how good this cottage is, except to say we've already booked a return holiday later this year and it takes somewhere special to make us do that. We stayed with two dogs who were well catered for (and got on well with Snowy) and if one of the main reasons for looking at this cottage is that you want a dog-friendly cottage then this should feature at the top your shortlist. The walks in the nearby Bousdale Woods (even when the Yorkshire weather played true to form) were varied, interesting and excellent for tiring out our Border Collies. You can choose several routes from the doorstep. The cottage was clean (and easy to keep clean even when our dogs came in very muddy), well maintained and has probably one of the biggest and best DVD collections we've come across in a holiday rental. By the way if your dog rolls in something smelly in the woods (as one of ours did) Steve is happy to let you use the hosepipe next door. I think that taught him a lesson (the dog, that is, not Steve)!

Lovely week, so peaceful and relaxing. Many different wild creatures in the garden. Buzzards overhead. Tranquil meals in the courtyard and easy strolls all around. Double bedroom a little small but as we only slept in it we found it adequate. Will certainly come again

We spent a very successful week here in the spring with our daughter, baby grandson and two border terriers. With excellent walks just outside the door and shopping only minutes away by car, it served our various needs well. The cottage is comfortable and the kitchen is well-equipped. The double bedroom is very small so don't take big cases or loads of clothes because there is very limited storage. However we were able to fit a dog cage in the lobby where our two dogs slept comfortably. We even entertained friends to lunch and the cottage coped well.

We really enjoyed the fact that we could take the dogs with us and they were very welcome.. We loved the cottage straight away, the location was ideal surrounded by nothing but woods and peacefulness. We visited the moors and also went down to the beach. Everything was within driving reach. The beautiful fire kept us warm when it was wet outside and the jacuzzi bath was brillant.

The cottage had everything you could possibly need for an excellent self catering holiday. The beds were comfortable, the whirlpool bath was a luxury. Washing machine and dishwasher :0) Wifi internet provided and a Flat screen TV with USB port - Home from home. The Forest trails were of a range of difficulty to suit , bikers, walkers and families of all ages. The owners were really welcoming and helpful. Aside from the forest areas. there is a pub, The Voyager, within walking or very short drive distance which serves food. It had a different meal and drink deal most nights. Curry night was good and the staff were great. Guisborough is very near and has a range of shops, restaurants and large supermarket. The coastal resorts of Saltburn, Whitby and Robin's Hood Bay are within an easy drive away. Durham and it's Cathedral is about an hour way and .... Roseberry Topping and the moors and their fantastically picturesque villages are on your doorstep. A fantastic place for a short break or longer holiday.
