Whitchurch is a small village on the outskirts of the Royal Forest of Dean, not far from the small market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth. Whitchurch features a flourishing village shop and coffee shop selling locally based items, a bar, and a restaurant, and it also boasts wonderful walks in all directions. Symonds Yat is an attractive Herefordshire village that spans the Wye River and is home to a beautiful natural limestone rock that attracts nature lovers and rock climbers. The village also features a butterfly farm and a maze. As England's largest oak forest and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Royal Forest of Dean is home to a wide variety of outdoor pursuits like horseback riding, abseiling, caving, countless cycle paths, and even a high wire rope course. Fishing, golf, and kayaking are just a few of the other less strenuous pursuits available. Goodrich is a charming village not far away, home to a Marcher Castle (built in the 12th century), a local store, and not one but two excellent eateries.
