The upside ; lovely hot water and lots of it, central heating very efficient, with glorious views all round, comfy beds with good bedding.. Downside ; the whole cottage needed a thorough clean. To begin with, the entrance needed a good brush to get rid of leaves and cobwebs which were all over the door frame and the tiles, this was a shame as a pleasant entrance would have made quite a difference.
When we arrived we had to vacuum the lounge carpet as it obviously had not been cleaned from the last visitors. Then brushing down the walls to get rid of masses of cobwebs, these were also on the curtains, curtain poles and every nook and cranny. The cobwebs on the beams were amazing and we managed to remove quite a few. The hearth was then swept and the glass on the log burner cleaned so we could see the fire ! On looking behind the books on the window sills, we found thick cobwebs, dead flies and numerous spider corpses. The fabric covered settee was dirty and on lifting the seat cushions found food bits, dog hairs and sweet papers. We then cleaned the glass of the patio doors as they were covered in dog slobber, as was the glass on the back door.
Now we get to the kitchen ! One revolting oven and baking pans that were disgusting and should have been thrown out months ago. The crockery was a mishmash of sorts and much of it was chipped. The glasses were pristine.
The bathroom was fine, except for the shower hose which again was revolting.....black mould ? it was quite off putting.
I have taken photographs of all the things mentioned and can send if you desire.
It was such a shame about the lack of cleanliness, I know it is out in the country and they accept dogs , but that amount of cobwebs dead flies, spiders and dog hairs was not acceptable.
It did not spoil our holiday , but it would have been absolutely A1 had these things been addressed in the first place.
We were, to say the least , disappointed.
