Holiday Rental Description

Holiday home
Hawthorn Cottage is a cottage in the village of Eyam, just five miles from Bakewell. The cottage sleeps two people and has one en-suite king-size bedroom. Also in the cottage is a fitted kitchen with dining area and sitting room with woodburning stove. Outside is free roadside parking in front of the cottage and a front patio with furniture. Situated in the heart of the Peak District National Park, Hawthorn Cottage is a lovely cottage for a romantic break in this part of the country.

Accomodation Details
One king-size double bedroom with en-suite short bath, walk-in shower, basin and WC. Kitchen with dining area. Sitting room with woodburning stove.

Area
Eyam is one of the best-preserved villages in the Peak District National Park, nestled at the foot of Sir William Hill, 800ft above sea level and is surrounded by the most glorious countryside. Historically the village is known as the famous 'plague village', as it went into voluntary quarantine when the plague was imported from London in 1665 and thus prevented the spread of the disease. There are many fine old houses in Eyam, and parts of the village have been kept as they looked several centuries ago, such as Eyam Hall, a beautiful 17th century manor house with delightful gardens, craft shops and tea rooms.

Region
The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Amenities
Gas central heating with woodburning stove. Gas double oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, TV with Freeview, DVD, DAB radio, iPod dock, WiFi (superfast broadband). Fuel, power and starter pack for stove inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in the rent. Free roadside parking in front of cottage. Front patio with furniture. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shops and pubs 5 mins walk. Note: This property is unsuitable for infants and children.

Cottage itself was excellent and a positive comment was left in the visitor's book.. However, would not recommend Sykes Cottages to anybody. Originally booked the cottage for a June holiday, meeting with friends, but this was cancelled due to the pandemic. Friends booking accommodation through other companies received refunds at an early stage, but Sykes offered only a revised date, without losing a lot of money. If I had had a choice for a September holiday, I might have chosen elsewhere, eg Lake District.

Cosy and well equipped cottage.. The property was better than the photos showed on the listing, set in a beautiful village full of history with amazing surrounding countryside. All round a little gem 10/10

Hawthorn Cottage where I stayed for 3 nights could not be more perfect.. Quiet location and the cottage was very well equipped with everything I needed and more. Log burner with plenty of wood, Clean quality bedding that did NOT stink of fabric softener like most places, comfortable bed, slept so well and the plentiful places to explore in the peak district right from the historical village of Eyam was very convenient. I would love to stay here again the next time that I am back in that breathtaking part of the country. Many Thanks. Great find.

The cottage is equipped with everything you could think of needing. We arrived to a bottle of milk, tea bags, coffee and biscuits which went down very well after a long drive! The kitchen is fully equipped, even with spices and gravy! Bonus! We stayed Friday to Sunday and the owners were lovely enough to let us stay a little longer than normal check out time because we went on a walk and wanted to leave our things in the cottage. The fire was more than well enough stocked for a couple of days, we took our own logs and ended up leaving them because we hardly used any of them! The bed is super comfy, the shower is amazing. There’s a couple of shops in the village but they don’t have much. There’s a Spar about 5 minutes drive away and is open quite late with a petrol station directly opposite which was perfect. We were lucky enough to see some of the neighbours who were super welcoming to us too. I just wish we were staying longer because it was super stunning. Highly recommended, and if you want a long walk, get to Tideswell and visit the Merchant’s Yard... the food is amazing and the cocktails are even better! Many Thanks to the owners, we hope to be back very soon.

We stayed here just prior to Christmas 2017. The cottage is nicely decorated and furnished and well thought out. The owner has paid considerable attention to detail. For example it was nice to find a Christmas tree when we arrived! The wood burning stove in the lounge was prepped such that a single match got it burning in minutes. That said the central heating meant the cottage was toasty warm on arrival anyway. We were pleasantly surprised how well equipped the kitchen was. For example there was a sharpener to put an edge on the knives, there were electronic kitchen scales and a set of teaspoon/tablespoon measures. There are wine glasses, champagne glasses and a full dinner service. There's a casserole dish, pots, pans. They've thought of everything! In the lounge there are guide books, a welcome pack with details of local pubs and restaurants, a pack of cards, dominoes, jigsaw puzzles and other games. There is parking on the street right in front of the cottage. The Miner's Arms pub is a 10 minute walk and Eyam Hall is 5 minutes away. For real ale drinkers there is a little business at Eyam Hall craft centre selling an excellent selection of bottled local real ales (and a couple of ales on draught) which came in handy. All in all it was very pleasant indeed.

When I arrived in Eyam not only was the cottage amazing but so was the people. Eyam is a very historic place so much to learn..you can actually feel the sadness of what the village went through many years ago :( :(

A wonderfully equipped cottage with everything you needed. A great base for walking cycling and visits to national trust properties and chatsworth. The owners have thought of everything including lunch boxes and flasks. The wood burner was lovely for the 1 night we needed it. We will return.

Deceptively roomy, this quintessentially English cottage marries countryside charm with modern conveniences. The surprisingly well appointed kitchen will make budding chefs happy and make holiday essentials, such as a 'Full English' an easily achievable task. The sitting room is comfortable and cosy, especially as there is a log burner for those chillier evenings. The bedroom to is both charmingly 'country' as well as clean, comfortable and spacious. For a property of this size the bathroom is positively expansive. A bijou bath may not accommodate 6 footers for a soak, but the large 'rain' shower is bliss. It's the cottage you'll think you'd like to own!

Well equipped cottage for two in Eyam. Good quality presentation. In centre of village and ten mins walk to pub with good food. Good spot for exploring Dales. Quite but convenient. On bus route . Steep stairs. Parking outside is not always available .

This is a charming, cosy, comfortable cottage in a delightful village. The décor has been designed and executed with a great deal of taste and flair. The surrounding country side is ideal for walking and full of pleasant surprises. The village history is fascinating and so well explained. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Eyam.

Hawthorn Cottage was one of the best cottages I have ever used for a holiday. I needed somewhere quiet and intimate, and my needs were well met. I also booked the place, as an artist, in the belief that it would serve my interests in landscape, and the area certainly lived up to my expectations.

A fabulous cottage in a brilliant location. Very peaceful yet within walking distance of essential amenities. I stayed by myself and found the cottage so cosy, it was well decorated and equipped with everything you could possibly need. Sad to leave actually! I would definitely return here and recommend it to anyone wanting a walking/sight seeing holiday in the Peak District.

This cottage is an absolute gem in the heart of the historic village of Eyam. My wife and I believe it is possibly the best cottage experience we have had (and we have been at this for 25 years). The owner has brought this ancient property right up to date and the interior is superb. The kitchen diner is stunning and everything you need is at hand. An outside sitting area at the front was a lovely place to relax and watch the village life, after a full day out and about. We will return to Hawthorn Cottage in the Autumn.
