Area
Eyam is one of the best-preserved villages in the Peak District National Park, nestled at the foot of Sir William Hill, 800ft above sea level and is surrounded by the most glorious countryside. Historically the village is known as the famous 'plague village', as it went into voluntary quarantine when the plague was imported from London in 1665 and thus prevented the spread of the disease. There are many fine old houses in Eyam, and parts of the village have been kept as they looked several centuries ago, such as Eyam Hall (National Trust), a beautiful 17th century manor house with delightful gardens, craft shops and tea rooms.

Region
The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Amenities
Electric heating. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, Smart TV with FreeSat, Blu-ray, WiFi, selection of books and DVDs. Power inc. in rent. Perfect location with numerous walks without the need of a car. A very pretty village with small shop, tea shops, pub and restaurant. A short walk to Stoney Middleton and you'll find a good fish and chip shop. The property is over two floors and approached by a flight of stairs leading to the first floor entrance. The property was very comfortable and warm. However, there were several issues that hadn't been resolved of which the owner was aware of. The front door lock was difficult to manage. Several lighting bulbs were blown some of which were essential for safety. We couldn't see in the cooking area due to overhead ceiling light not working and the cooker hood didn't have a working light. The bathrooms also had missing lights. Despite Covid 19 and being asked to delay arrival to allow for 'extra cleaning, this was clearly not done. Dirty cutlery, greasy plates and pans. No dishwasher tablets which is probably why things were not washed properly. Fortunately I always take such items with me and was able to clean what we needed to use. This is the first Sykes cottage where we have had to provide our own dishwasher tablets! I couldn't bring myself to use the oven as it was so dirty. Dishwashing brush should have been thrown away. Food decrement in the cutlery tray. The family bathroom had a metal basket sat in the corner of the bath which was rusty and caked in soap scum. The rust stains had not been wiped away from the bath which I was able to do with little effort. Clearly the cleaning agency were not paying attention to obvious cleaning needs. Again this item needed disposing of. We did contact the owner to bring the front door and lack of lighting to her attention and mentioned the lack of cleanliness. She responded very promptly but was dismissive and blamed the lack of cleanliness onto previous guests. No apology was given. Understandably, we were very concerned about using unclean utensils, crockery and cutlery especially during the pandemic. The only clear evidence of Covid secure cleaning was the TV remote control set! I would highly recommend the area for keen walkers as this is a perfect setting off point. The cottage would be very good if these matters were addressed but I would want outdoor space in better weather.

Plenty to do but please describe after a day walking and site seeing all the stairs in to apartment also on-suite shower was very hot might be me but couldn’t get a temperature of water to stand under lovely friendly village and local pub and hotel Yes this place is for younger family who like walking and exploring Also parking is tight as I think other people where residents with large cars as I had to let cousin out of car before I parked then tight squeeze for me

We had a great weekend at Jay's Nest, the apartment is modern and plenty big enough for a family of four.. Everything we needed was there, the arrangements with the keys etc were very clear and straightforward. The village was lovely with a great pub for an evening meal, loads of fantastic walks and conveniently located for exploring the area.

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage.. The location was great for walking and not far from other places to visit. The cleanliness of the place was good, however we did find the cutlery and coffee machine were not washed or washed properly.

The Apartment was absolutely GREAT, extremely CLEAN and in a PERFECT Location! The rooms were all spacious and well laid out, there were plenty of utensils in the Kitchen, couldn't think of anything we needed and didn't have. We would absolutely recommend this Property and will definitely be returning at some point in the future. The village of Eyam is also beautiful. Walks literally from the doorstep, as is the pub which serves amazing food. Everyone we met was so friendly. Couldn't fault the location or the accommodation! Thank you all for a WONDERFUL weekend!

The property is very clean, warm and comfortable and very well equipped.. It is within walking distance of a pub offering good food and a couple of nice cafes. There is also a museum in the village which is well worth a visit as is the church. Walking round the pretty village you are immersed in its intriguing history. Within easy reach is Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Bakewel to name a few as well as all the beautiful countryside. We would like to mention that the parking space is very tight but you can safely park in the road which is very quiet. Alternatively if one car parks in their space and the other parks behind their space that works OK. We would definitely like to stay in Jay's Nest again.

The common area of stairs and halls were very dirty until I e-mailed the owner.. Car parking is cramped and likely to cause damage to car doors. Disapointed not to have outside table/chairs in the event of nice weather. Advertising under 'cottages' gives wrong impression. Owner giving threatening notice of payment for lost keys.

Great central location in the village of Eyam with an off road reserved parking space.. The pre-arrival instructions were very clear, particularly with regard to obtaining and using the keys. You entered via a communal outer door and climbed one flight of stairs to the apartment entrance. There were two properties on this level, Jay's Nest being the first (number 2) and one further along the landing. A nice entrance hall inside leading into an open plan area containing the kitchen, lounge and dining. It was very modern, clean and well appointed. There were numerous books, a few games and puzzles and lovely big TV (for a change as many cottages often only seem to offer small ones). Upstairs had two bedrooms, one double en-suite and the other a twin. Separate bathroom. Storage heaters were adequate for our stay and could even be adjusted as needed (or not). As it was Xmas week the owner even put up a small tree and other seasonal items which was thoughtful. We could not have asked for a more cosy place and the reclining sofas were a real treat after a good days walk. We managed three walks straight from the door meaning we did not use the car at all during our 4 night stay (although it looked like they had a good bus service should we have needed it). Overall very impressed and would recommend as a good base, not just for seeing Eyam (there is lots to do) but also the surrounding area.

We found that Jay's Nest was conveniently placed in the friendly village of Eyam .. Previous guest's commented that the accommodation felt like home from home and those were our feelings also. We had the use of a modern well equipped kitchen area and comfortable seating to relax in front of the smart T.V. It is good for visiting towns and villages locally and great if you like putting on walking boots and getting out in the countryside.

Jay's nest was an excellent base located in the centre of Eyam for exploring the Peak district and very comfortable home for our stay.. It combined being in a traditional building style with the modern benefits of an en suite as well as family bathroom and off road parking plus a lovely well equiped kitchen/dining/living room.

We stayed at Jay's Nest for a weekend (Friday - Sunday). It was really comfortable and had everything we needed (aside from the usual consumables). The towels and bed linen were clean and soft. It was easy to follow the instructions to get access. There was a pub a short (3-4 minutes) walk away which is handy if you arrive later in the day and need a bite to eat (we didn't eat there but went there for a drink and it was very welcoming). I'd definitely return to Jay's Nest again for a visit to the Peak District.

A very pleasant flat nicely located in the small village of Eyam.. On site parking, free wifi, smartTV, good selection of dvds and books as well as a variety of leaflets for things to do in the surrounding area. Good water pressure in both showers, beds that we found comfortable (firm matresses). Modern kitchen and appliances with a 'welcome' pint of milk in the fridge. Tea/coffee/sugar available, as well as all the kitchen utensils we needed during our stay. (No plastic plastic plates/cups/bowls/cutlery for small children, so we brought our own.) There were no dishwasher tablets or spare toilet rolls, which I brought to the attention of the owner, so this hopefully wont be an issue for future visitors.

A wonderful place to stay with everything we needed.. Lots of great walks from the doorstep and just 2 minutes walk to the local amenities, shop, tea rooms and pub, 5 minutes to the museum and craft centre. Bakewell and Chatsworth are both just a short drive away and made for fabulous days out. Everyone seemed friendly and welcoming. Had no issues with the keys or locks, instructions were sent in advance and were easy to follow. Well worth a visit, would love to return in the summer.

This is a nice warm and very very clean . Lots of nice fluffy towels and really well equipped with full size fridge freezer dishwasher (which we did not use) and washing machine. Good quality pans ect .No welcome pack but teabags coffee and a pint of milk was helpful. Also more teatowels would be good for people like us who ate main meals out so was not worth putting dishwasher on. We did have a problem with apartment door lock, which a kindly niebour helped us with, and have made owner aware so think this will not be a issue in future.

Nice place very clean and warm, but problems with door lock (we had to get a stranger to help up to get in) and a problem with bedroom blind (it took ages to open and close) would stop us renting property again.. Did make owner aware of problems.
