Really nice cottage in a picturesque setting.. The rooms were clean and had all the facilities required to make it a real home from home. Would book again.

Absolutely stunning location.. Cartmel is a 10 minute walk away and is a beautiful village. The cottage is a bit shabby in places but it adds to the character of the building. The porch as you walk in could do with a clean and dust to get rid of the cobwebs and spiders. Also the end of the drive could do with a traffic mirror as you can’t see what is coming from the right. But would we return? Most definitely. Worth every penny x

Had a lovely break in this comfortable rural location .. Very historical and traditional Cumbrian setting . Easy access to Cartmel though the narrow lane isn't very pedestrian friendly . Cottage warm ,quiet and we'll equipped . Good amenities . Lovely views . Spoilt for eating out and local produce .

Beautiful location.. Quiet with old world charm. A little tired in places, but beautifully comfortable & cosy. The gardens are a delight & we all enjoyed the break (2 humans & 2 dogs!)

This was our first visit to the Lake District and we found this to be a wonderful location within a large country house setting and grounds.. We used it as a base to explore the local area on foot with our dog walking up to the Hospice of Hampsfell from the rear of the property and back down into the idyllic village of Cartmel for a pub lunch. There we found an amazing cheese shop, bakery and brewery. An hours drive and we were soon walking through Grizedale Forest, we also drove back up to walk around Derwentwater and explored Keswick on the way round. On our return to the grooms quarters we would light the fire, make a bite to eat and snuggle up for a quiet, cosy night.

A little disappointed with cleanliness.. Empty flower pot at front door, and ashtray on bedroom balcony were both full of cigarette ends when we arrived. We are non smokers ourselves but it created a bad impression. Bedroom and lounge were full of very small moths flying around all night. Kitchen utensil drawer was full of bread crumbs. We stripped bed as asked and found feather duvet had stains on it. looked grubby, as did inside of lamp shades. Curtain in bedroom torn at top. Just felt the whole question of cleaning needs to be more thorough. Nice warm cottage, let down by skimping on cleaning.

Had a thoroughly lovely time at Grooms Cottage.. The grounds are a delight and the walled garden was a joy to walk around spotting all the lovely fruit/vegetables and different species of flowers. The only negative comment we had 2 super huge bath towels but no hand towels. I think this was probably an oversight and didn't see the cleaners to mention this. You do needd a car to get into Cartmel as there are no footpaths.

The entrance to the grounds needs better signs, but the most important item is that the exit is very bad due to poor visibility to the right.. It needs a mirror on the oposite side so that traffic approaching can be seen. There is no sign to warn drivers of the hidden entrance

Set back in the grounds of Longlands estate, this cottage is full of character and period charm. A lovely place inside and out, whilst it may appear a little dated (think 1970's), it has all the latest facilities you'd need (free wifi with good strong signal throughout). This place is ideal if you have dogs, completely enclosed and all livestock fenced out. Cartmel is under a mile away, but you'd struggle to walk there on the roads, as they are a little unsafe without pavements. This would be the only downside though.

My husband and I stopped Friday while Tuesday with our two Collies. It was lovely to get away in the countryside, the cottage was clean and tidy with a homely feel. We really enjoyed the nearby walks and will definitely be returning soon.

Just had a few days at the Grooms Quarters Cartmel and it's been absolutely lovely. One of a few cottages adjacent to Longlands House set back well away from the roads so it's safe and has a feeling of the grand. The cottage itself felt really warm and cosy and perfect for us as a couple and our spaniel. We loved The original features and furniture and the old books. It felt like we had borrowed someone's home. The staff were really lovely and so helpful. There's a delightful walled garden and a good walk beyond and up to the fells. Recommended.

We had a lovely stay except for the last night when we did not get to sleep until past 4 am.. I think it would be worth informing future guests that the cottage is one small part of a larger development which is set up for large groups. The place was ideal for us & our very nervous rescue dog until the Friday. On the Friday groups of men began to arrive throughout the afternoon & evening until there were 25+. A huge amount of alcohol was piled up on a table in the quad outside our back window & some of the men began to drink on arrival. They used the large barn for their entertainment and were continually on the move between the big house & the barn all night. Being 2 women in this sort of situation was unsettling as we are aware a large number of men together with huge amounts of alcohol can be unpleasant. As it turned out the men did not bother us ( we had drawn all the curtains & locked the door) but we were on high alert all evening as the noise level & movement grew and it spoiled our last evening. I think it is important that guests are informed about issues like this before they book. Had we known that a large male only group was booked in we would not have stayed & it has certainly put us off going back there again. I hope you understand our issue with this. We did not feel safe & although the men were simply enjoying themselves we were on edge.

A nice simple cottage set in lovely grounds.. An old school cottage without too many frills but none the worse for it. Everything we needed for a week away was there and available. The sizeable shared grounds are great and most welcome for dogs. We did have one small issue but it was dealt with very quickly. It’s about half a mile from the village which was perfect, plenty to do close by.

Probably less than one mile from Cartmel. We have just returned from 3 nights in this cottage. The cottage was absolutely lovely. Open plan lounge with kitchen. Lovely fireplace, but fire not needed this weekend.Very comfortable large bed, and plenty of hot water in the bathroom. No trickling showers here. It was a cosy warm cottage a quarter of a mile from any traffic. Excellent car parking, dog heaven. We had 2 with us. We intended to go out during the evening but the cottage was so welcoming we stayed in every night. During the days we visited Cartmel a couple of times, and Lake Windermere and Bowness, all an easy drive. Fabulous dog walks from the cottage.

Absolutely loved the area, closeness to the Lakes.. Cartmel a picturesque proper village. Plenty of pubs, restaurants and cafes. Very pretty. The cottage was in the most beautiful setting, and dog heaven. We had plans to eat out regularly but stayed in every evening because the cottage was gorgeous.

A very well set up cottage in a great location just on the edge of the Lake District national park, and also close to the sea.. The manor grounds were just great for the dogs with lots of rabbits to chase, the walks directly behind the property were simply stunning. We really loved the herb/vege/fruit garden, what a cooks paradise collecting all the stuff for a great dinner. Thank you for letting us use this ammenity! The cottage was small and comfy, the gas fireplace just great and great bedroom ensuit. The kitchen could have been a little better equiped, we missed a decent kitchen knife, but for the rest perfect.

We liked the beautiful surroundings and setting of the holiday cottage as well as the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The use of the walled gardens was a big bonus for us as we are both gardeners, and the fact that the whole place is so dog friendly. This was our third visit and we would definitely stay again. We also found the location great for accessing the rest of the lakes.

This is a lovely, peaceful and quiet place to stay with fantastic views. Me and my boyfriend loved it here with our two dogs. Other friendly people and their dogs stayed in the area. The only thing I would suggest is if you're not staying here for the Cartmel races then don't stay here. It is dearer to stay when the races are on and traveling to other places can take a long time due to the race goers and coaches, which is ridiculous to send through such small roads. Other than that it was a lovely break away.

The two-person accommodation is very spacious, but also felt cosy and cottage-like. There is additional heating in the form of a gas coal effect fire and oil filled radiators, helping to make the cottage very cosy. The heated towel rail ensures that the bathroom is always warm and that the towels are warm and dry. The bed and bedding are super comfortable. The complex is quiet and the Lake District is beautiful. There is lots of useful information in the cottage including a fantastic readers digest book all about the Lake District, which includes many photos.

We booked for two weeks as we needed a place to stay relocating to the area. As agreed before our arrival with Anthony, we found the key in the door. We turned on the spare heaters (it was cold outside!) and lit the lovely gas fire, unpacked and quickly settled in. The cottage is homely and well furnished. Some of the other cottages were being refurbished, it will be worth revisiting to stay in one of those when they are finished. Staff were very friendly and helpful when I needed some help with the washing machine. Cartmel is a lovely village (try the Sticky Toffee Pudding) and it was great to see racehorses training in the field early morning.. Brilliant stay - hope to go back!

We loved this cottage! Its location on a small country estate is very picturesque. The cottage is tucked away from the road, so that our dog could be let out straight into the gardens, many walks start straight from the doorstep. The facilities in the cottage were very good, everything you need. We were made to feel very welcome and would love to return again to discover more great walks.

The property is damp and dingy the smell was disgusting even the ambulance crew commented on the dampness as we had to call them out due to my wife having cardiomyopathy and the damp was making her ill. The decor was bad and the furniture was so outdated that the sofa was hard to sit on. We did complain to sykes cottages but they have taken the owners word for it that he denied all our complaints even though the ambulance crew backed our complaint up and sykes have refused to send anyone there to check it out no wonder they are leasing below standard properties

Welcome letter on arrival and everything explained. Cottage is furnished very well, warm and full of character. A lovely place inside and out. Fantastic bed! Storage heaters were very efficient and heated the whole cottage. Electric shower over the bath worked well, but not a power shower! Wifi worked perfectly with good strong signal throughout. Never needed to call anyone as has no problems :) Cartmel is a lovely village and the shops are cute. I attended the Remembrance service in the lovely Priory. Well worth a visit. Grange over Sands, 10 mins away, has bigger Spar/Co-Op etc than Cartmel and take-aways if you want more than Cartmel has. So much to do within 45 mins in the car. The South Lakes Wild animal Park is a great day out. Very spacious and a lot are walking around with you!
