Plover Cottage was very well appointed but there were a few things that can be improved upon.. The shower switch needs to be connected to the extractor fan. Having it connected to the light switch means that what little heat there WASN'T, was taken away and you couldn't get out of the shower room fast enough. The heater, above the towel rail only worked for about 30 seconds before it cut out - THAT IS WHY THE SHOWER ROOM WAS ALWAYS FREEZING. A night light in both hallways would be helpful to see your way to the toilet - you needed to switch on the lights, therefore disturbing your spouse. The Key Box is almost impossible to open. The heating could of been switched on as a welcome, even though it was a mild day, the cottage was freezing and took over a hour to warm up - that was living room and bedroom - the rest was freezing. The torch needs a new battery. Tom Ulett.

The heating and water were actually on a meter, which I had not understood from the listing.. But it only cost us about £10 for the week. The only real problem was the lack of reliable telephone signal, to make up for this the cottage really needs a broadband/wifi connection. Otherwise it was a pleasant cottage in a handy location for the whole of Hadrians Wall.

We had a lovely week in Plover if we had to make a suggestion in what would have made it better we would say Maybe a DVD player and the Internet as we had no phone signal at all inside the cottage.. Maybe basic condiments would have been nice ie Salt Pepper and Vinegar but other than these small things we enjoyed our stay thank you

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Plover cottage, we had such a good holiday.. The cottage itself is spacious, clean and comfortable, with good parking space, and in a lovely quiet location, very different to the town life we're used to. I haven't slept so well in years! The countryside around the cottages is beautiful and so unspoilt, and although there is no view out of the cottage itself, you only need to head out in the car or for a walk and you have some of the most stunning views i've seen in my 30-something years. Location-wise, the cottage is about 1-2 miles from Haydon Bridge village which has a pharmacy, a co-op, butchers, a chippy and a pub or two. Also, Hexham has everything you would need, and is an easy 10 minute drive. For pubs, i would recommend the Boatside Inn at Warden, which is about 7 minutes drive away, or the Heart of Northumberland in central Hexham. There's loads to do in the area, but i would say you definitely need a car to take full advantage. The absolute must visit places,i would say, are the Beamish museum and Carlisle, both about 45 minutes away. There's also a fantastic National trust property just over an hour away at Morpeth, Cragside House and Gardens, well-worth a visit. Thank you Lilian for a brilliant week, we will back again one day.

Great location for visiting Hadrian's Wall and surrounding towns.. Not difficult to find, although the information on the website is incorrect. The location is a little bleak and the views out of the windows are not its best feature but once you are out of the drive and on the local roads the scenery is spectacular. No wifi and poor mobile phone reception, which is a good thing as it gave us a forced but healthy break away from our devices. The cottage was super clean and nicely decorated. It had an excellent and thoughtful selection of books on the bookshelf (should it rain) and just the right equipment and cleaning materials in the kitchen. A little bit of salt for the visitors would be a good idea. Lots of lovely towels in the bathroom, which we didnt expect.

The cottage was ideally situated for we who were wanting to visit Hadrians Wall.. There were, however, a couple of disappointments, both of which could easily be remedied:- 1. The instructions re topping up the electricity meter were far from clear 2. The information re rubbish disposal and collection were wrong, as it certainly seemed as if the recyclable rubbish had been put in the green bin and there were no instructions re what items could be put in the recyclable bin, whichever it is! 3. It would be very helpful if a small coffee table could be provided. Otherwise, a very comfortable week for which many thanks!

If I was returning to the area I would certainly re-book, however this is unlikely in the near future.. The only slightly adverse comment is the lack of a clear sign when approaching the cottage at night which is very dark in the area and the postcode relates to a broad area. Otherwise an excellent venue and thanks to a patient owner (Lillian) who guided us there.

This cottage is lovely, everything as new, very clean and comfortable.. It's situated in a remote area so no wi-fi or mobile reception but Haydon Bridge is only a couple of miles away for supplies etc. It's a good central position for exploring Northumberland, Lake District and Scotland...surrounding countryside is stunning! Altogether a very lovely two week holiday.

It was a good base to visit so many different places.. The cottage was very comfortable and easily warmed up with the electric heaters, everything worked well and there was plenty of cupboard space in the kitchen to put our own food. A new electric kettle would be a good idea! The bed was comfortable. There were no unnecessary frilly bits around the cottage, it suited us fine. It was a quiet place. We had a good holiday.

Situated halfway between Newcastle and Carlisle and only 2.5 miles from Hadrian's Wall this cottage is an ideal base for the north. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner and his wife who where there finishing off work on the grounds after a complete refit of the cottages. The builders had only left the day before. Despite that the place was clean and well appointed. I would have preferred to have seen a washing machine instead of a dishwasher in the cottage for anyone with small children or are perhaps a bit more physically active than we were.

I thought the place excellent. It was very clean and fresh without being overdone. I would highly recommend.

The owner of the cottage was very friendly and kind. They were very supportive and informative all the time. I would recommend the cottage to anyone and believe one of the best, price wise and design.
