August 2018
We have just returned from a wonderful week at Plover cottage, we had such a good holiday.. The cottage itself is spacious, clean and comfortable, with good parking space, and in a lovely quiet location, very different to the town life we're used to. I haven't slept so well in years! The countryside around the cottages is beautiful and so unspoilt, and although there is no view out of the cottage itself, you only need to head out in the car or for a walk and you have some of the most stunning views i've seen in my 30-something years.
Location-wise, the cottage is about 1-2 miles from Haydon Bridge village which has a pharmacy, a co-op, butchers, a chippy and a pub or two. Also, Hexham has everything you would need, and is an easy 10 minute drive. For pubs, i would recommend the Boatside Inn at Warden, which is about 7 minutes drive away, or the Heart of Northumberland in central Hexham.
There's loads to do in the area, but i would say you definitely need a car to take full advantage. The absolute must visit places,i would say, are the Beamish museum and Carlisle, both about 45 minutes away. There's also a fantastic National trust property just over an hour away at Morpeth, Cragside House and Gardens, well-worth a visit.
Thank you Lilian for a brilliant week, we will back again one day.
