Mermaid Cottage is a charming first floor apartment in Whitby. The apartment sleeps two people with a king-size double bedroom, a bathroom with a separate bath and shower, a kitchen with a dining area, and a sitting room with an electric fire. There is also a parking permit available to use in the car park just a five minutes walk away. Mermaid Cottage is an ideal base for a couple's getaway, with shops, pubs and a number of attractions within easy waking distance, as well as the wonderful North York Moors National Park just waiting to be explored.

The coastal town of Whitby is situated at the mouth of the River Esk and is ideally placed for exploring this beautiful part of Yorkshire. The town offers winding streets, hidden alleys, a picturesque harbour, safe sandy beaches and a famous Abbey.

Region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Totally disliked Sykes treatment of its customers during the onset of Covid in March 20.. As for Mermaid cottage, wow. Fantastic location, has everything you need for a short or long stay. Would definitely come back here. Loved it. Thankyou Mermaid cottage for giving us a fabulous holiday.

Lovely clean and well equipped and a big thank you for the gift of leaving a bottle of wine for your guests.. It would be a good idea to inform your guests that you have feather filled bedding, for some people it's good but unfortunately my husband has Asthma and this caused him a problem, I'm sure if I had rang up it would have been swapped for non allergic bedding but because it was a lovely warm apartment we didn't need the quilt. We enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recommend Mermaid Cottage. Just a note to say that Whitby is a beautiful scenic town but very hilly and there is no parking outside so I would say if you have any form of disability walking it would be better to stay near the harbour.

From booking to arriving, the information we received regarding directions to the property to gaining access to the cottage were very good, also being able to park the car nearby without any extra cost was a bonus, and within 5 minute walk.. All the attraction were all within walking distance and the local pubs and restaurants are very nice too. Inside the property we were very surprised at how spacious it all was, good sized bedroom, large living area , large and very well equipped kitchen and a large bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle, very well maintained,to say we were surprised is an understatement, we will definitely be booking this or a subsequent property through Sykes cottages.co.uk. Thank-you, we had yet another lovely weekend in Whitby

The whole place is tired, which would be fine but for some major problems.. The shared landing smelled of must. The bedclothes didn't smell great - we had to wash them first. The taps in the bathroom were difficult to turn off. The shaving light in the bathroom didn't work. The shower temperature was luke warm at best - all week we didn't have a hot shower. The mould spots all over the bathroom ceiling near the shower are unacceptable. What's particularly frustrating is that I booked this place for two seperate weeks, the second in October, I've paid in full and I don't want to go through this again. Can someone contact me regarding how to proceed?

Comfortable, clean, and well decorated apartment.. Kitchen well equipped but cutlery could do with replacing. My wife took a hairdryer with her as we couldn’t see this mentioned in the description however a hairdryer was to hand. Very enjoyable stay.

Hard to find entrance at 1st Communal area smells musty not the best needs a clean Nice 1 bed flat , I know it’s at the coast but every window front and back had bird mess on them.. So our view for 2 days was of that They need a good clean Apart from the communal area and the windows flat was nice spacious Friend was staying around the corner and windows were spotless so perhaps the cleaners need to sort this or change the window cleaner !!

It really is a lovely flat, very clean and very comfortable very well equipped and close enough to everything in Whitby with easy access to everywhere we wanted to visit.. Certainly enjoyed our stay and the bottle of wine was very much appreciated. The addition of the car parking pass was a definite bonus, only one minor issue was that WiFi would finish everything off nicely - though I must admit that being offline might have had the odd benefit. We had a lovely week, thank you.

The cottage is in a quiet area with lots of quirky shops and pubs close by also watch out for hidden garden bars and tea-rooms which are.. The main tow just round the corner. Main town is only 5 minutes walk downhill and the West Cliff is only 5 minutes walk along from the cottage where you can access the beach via a lift. Nothing negative apart from seagulls ( it is a seaside town after all) they can be noisy! I would not hesitate in booking this well equipped comfortable first floor cottage in the future as it had all comforts of a "home away from home". Had a lovely 4 night break staying in Whitby.

Lovely furnished one bedroom property in a perfect location, comfy bed complete with bedside drawers small wardrobe and plenty of hangers (a bonus).. Cosy and warm throughout, with a well equipped kitchen. Parking permit also a bonus for the nearby Leisure Centre (10 minutes walk away). Had to contact the owner during our stay concerning the water pressure/warmth of the shower, he was extremely pleasant and helpful and this was quickly resolved. Would not hesitate in staying at this property again.

We had a lovely week in Whitby the cottage was great. Staying with a 6month old baby there was plenty of room in the bedroom for the travel cot, bed was very comfy and kingsize good quality pillows and clean. Nice living room tv signal failed a few times so watched a DVD Bathroom big and clean bath and shower cubicle. Kitchen was large perfect for a baby all the utensils u could want and some more. Would be extra fantastic if the owner provided a high chair as there was loads of storage space to keep one. Good location 5-10 mins from beach and whale bone arch way 20-30 mins walk to the abbey - quite a hilly walk. Loads of little shops around the cottage and all on the walk to the harbour and abbey Car parking 5-8mins walk away. Cottage is on a narrow street with double yellow lines.

A lovely 1 bedroom flat.. Comfy bedroom king size bed with space for our 6 month olds travel cot. Nice big bathroom with seperate shower and bath. Kitchen is really great loads of utensils perfect with having a baby, would be great if they had a high chair to use as there was plenty of storage space for one in the kitchen cupboards (hint hint). We booked a flat as needed a good kitchen for the baby so really delighted with all the equipment there- thank you. Tv kept cutting out and losing signal but lots of DVDs to watch. Our flat was first floor but easy enough to carry the pram up. Easy to find the flat and using the key lock system the flat is on a narrow road with double yellow lines so you do feel you have to be quick to unload your stuff but it's not a problem, parking is near the leisure centre 5-8 mins walk away. Location was great lovely fish and chip shop at the end of the road, around a 5 - 10 min walk to the beach/ harbour area very hilly. The abbey is about 20-30mins walk but a nice walk through lots of shops and cobbled streets. You can drive to the abbey 5 mins plenty of parking at the top £2-3 for 2 hours.

First time in Whitby and we really enjoyed the holiday. Mermaid Cottage was really nice and has the most lovely comfortable bed which I think is really important! The location of the cottage couldn't be better; we love to be able to walk to bars, restaurants and shops and there were plenty of these. We would definitely have no hesitation in returning to this area and this cottage in the future.

First time in Whitby and we really enjoyed the holiday.. Mermaid Cottage was really nice and has the most lovely comfortable bed which I think is really important! The location of the cottage couldn't be better; we love to be able to walk to bars, restaurants and shops and there were plenty of these. We would definitely have no hesitation in returning to this area and this cottage in the future.

Flat was lovely, warm and plenty space and a very comfy bed. However some areas could have been cleaner. My partner lost his glasses down the back of the sofa and when he lifted the cushion the underneath was pretty grotty, sweets and paper lying over it. Bit short on cupboard space for food. Some tea and coffee etc. were left for us but milk was out of date. My partner is not too mobile so the car parking was a bit too far for walking.It would have been nice to have a few more basics in it such as washing up liquid, cling film, salt and pepper. This is advertised as a luxury flat but I have been in better "ordinary" holiday flats with better. However, it was good walking distance to town, nice and close to a lovely and friendly pub.We had a good week.
