We have just stayed in the Cow Byre. Being one of four barn conversions in a lovely quiet village. Pub is currently closed but there is a shop, post office, butchers, Hairdresser & chip shop. Having beautiful views over the fields, village over to the sea it is a beautiful location. You are in easy driving reach of Whitby, Staithes, North Yorkshire moors, Saltburn by the sea, Marske by the Sea & Sandsend. The Cow byre is disabled friendly with ramps & a wet room. In a corner so has two outside seating areas at the back over looking fields that our dogs loved. Bill & Sandra are close at hand but leave you to get on with your holiday. Very informative about the local area which was really useful. Everyone we met was really friendly, the whole area & the barns are spotless. Would definitely recommend .

We thought that the lounge area was a bit snug for 4 adults, think the dining table was too big for the room, Our only other gripe was there was no storage area for dried food it all had to sit on the work surface.. Other than that very comfortable, ample parking, good area for coast and moors.

The cottage was excellent, secluded and perfect as a base for the moors and North Yorks coast, as well as being comfortable and well equipped for us and the dogs.. The owners were brilliant, taking the COVID precautions seriously, with exemplary cleanliness of the cottage, and with great advice as to what we could do. They were very friendly and helpful, juts what was needed!

Lovely area. Clean cottage, comfy beds. Owners house very close - less than 3 meters from the holiday cottages. Open fields ? Not visible from the cottage. Private patio only accessible by leaving cottage via front door and walking around the building to the back. The only 'open field' was in use by dog walkers who weren't staying in the cottages. A second field contains a caravan. Not the place for peace and tranquillity to be honest. Owners very welcoming. Good access to Whitby etc.

We were disappointed by the wet room as the floor tiling was the same as the rest of the property and became very slippy once wet and soapy.. Rubber Mats are available to counter this but my wife who is very unsteady on her feet still struggled when moving off them . access to the main bedroom was also a problem, with considerable manoeuvring required to get a scooter to the side of the bed.The rest of the facilities were fine.

A great little cottage in beautiful surroundings with very attentive, helpful owners.. Ideal spot for our dogs. We liked it so much we've booked in again for later this year.

This cottage was very small in main room with kitchen lounge and dining room all in one. The wet room was very good The stone floors were hard and cold as there were no rugs. Very plain and functional. The outside patio was lovely to sit out and had 2 meadows to take the dog. The furniture was old and uncomfortable .

I have suffered strokes in the past so I am always intersted in disabled friendly accomodation.. This completely met my needs, especially the wetroom. What was also wonderful was the cost was not inflated as many are. Thank you, we are returning customers of Sykes and your attention to detail, and friendly yet professional service is always appreciated.

The cottage was both clean and comfortable with everything you would want in a holiday home.. However, what made this stay particularly outstanding was down to the hosts, Bill and Sandra, who went out of their way to both welcome me and subsequently aid me in sourcing and booking my car into a garage for remedial work. Excellent, helpful and friendly hosts. A++

The grounds were immaculate and wonderful for our two spaniels especially the field out back, and the beaches and woodland walks were fantastic.. The owners were very friendly and helpful but we always maintained our privacy. Just a few things to note were that there were no recycling facilities at the premises that we were aware of. Also, the fridge was very noisy which was ok if the television was on but we were aware of it quite often. Perhaps it was no louder than any other fridge but we noticed it being as the lounge and kitchen were all in one room. We also struggled with the limited amount of available cupboard space in the kitchen for our groceries. Although these were all very minor things and we still managed very well and had a relaxing holiday. Saltburn and the coastline is a great place and extremely close and we visited places all along the coast from Robins Hood’s Bay to Runswick Bay and can’t recommend the North Yorkshire Moors area highly enough for a holiday destination.

We would recommend visitors take slippers as floor can be cold.. The field at the side is ideal for those with dogs. The whole area is really quite and relaxing. Enjoyable stay and would recommend for anyone looking to relax and unwind.

We had a great week in North Yorkshire. Our cosy cottage in Lingdale had everything we needed for a fulltime wheelchair user and her husband with welcoming hosts and impressive views over the moors to the sea. It was a really good base for exploring the coast with Saltburn, a Victorian spa town with real character, only a short distance away and iconic Whitby, half-an-hour away. Driving over the dramatic moors just added to the holiday. We'll definitely be back!

Wilsons Cottages have been converted from an old barn and The Cow Byre is one of four. Very clean and airy and more than enough room for 2 adults and a dog. The beds are quite comfortable and their is ample storage space. The cottage is well advertised as suitable for the disabled. The well equipped kitchen and lounge area are within one room. Being the corner cottage, there is a lovely sitting area in front of the back door and around the corner is another patio area. There is also use of the grassed farmers field for all four cottages. This is by no means a complaint but the only down side to the cottage we found was the inside seating, I am sure some people with certain ailments will find the style OK but I have a bad lower back/hip and could not get totally comfortable. Bill the owner is very friendly and informative and it was nice knowing he was close at hand if we needed anything. Of note, towels are not provided but bed linen is. The pub in the village has closed down but there is what looks like a very nice bar/restaurant, unfortunately though this did not have a beer garden so we were unable to go as we have a dog. The fish shop is excellent and the mini supermarket was well stocked. We would not hesitate to stay here again and have already recommended it to our friends.

My wife and I really enjoyed our holiday in this very clean and well maintained cottage, she is disabled and is wheelchair bound, the cottage was perfect, very basic but more than suited our needs.. The owners are on site and could not do enough for us, which was really nice, we had lovely weather and the outside patio was great, would recommend this property for anyone, but is excellent for less abled people

Really nice clean comfortable cottage which is well decorated with good quality fittings and warm underfloor heating .. Good wi-fi, new flat screen tv and DVD with large selection of films and boxed sets. Enclosed yard good for dog. Nice furnished patio overlooking the paddock with afternoon and evening sun. Quiet location. Market town of Gisborough is just a few minutes drive with many restaurants and bars. The owners are very helpful and approachable.

Cow Byre is a disabled friendly cottage, the bathroom/wet room was well laid out with ample room to manoeuvre a walker around.. The owners even supplied us with a raised toilet seat which was extremely helpful. Although this property is only rated 3* it is far better than that. The owners could not have been more helpful if we needed them. We hope to make a return visit to this cottage and the area, it all made for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

The cottage was great! The location was perfect for touring around the area. The accommodation was far superior to what the tourist rating was and we would not hesitate to book the cottage again in the future

The cottage was very nice and we had a lovely time. Plenty of places to take our dog for a walk and it was very quiet and relaxing at The Cow Byre. Saltburn by sea is not too far away. Would go back here again, I would recommend this cottage for a good holiday.

A very good base for visiting the coastal areas and the North Yorkshire Moors. A good standard of accommodations in a quiet area. The disabled facilities in the bathroom are excellent along with the accommodation being all on one level and good accessibility through the exterior doors. The cottage owner contacted us in advance of our visit and was very helpful with his local knowledge. I would definitely book this property again if we were to return to visit this area.

This cottage was situated in a quiet area. The owner was very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. The accommodation was of a high standard. This is the first time we have been for a holiday in this area, and we are planning on returning next year and hopefully staying in the same accommodation. There is a lot of little villages and bays in the surrounding areas that are well worth visiting.

The Cow Byre was excellent in every way. The owner is an efficient and caring gentleman. Position of property brilliant for both Moors and sea. This was my first holiday as a 'disabled' person and the above combination made it a huge success. Thank You.

September 2012
This is a superb cottage with great disabled facilities. It has been sensitively renovated in a very clean and fresh style. The whole family is friendly and it feels like your own cottage amongst friends. The walk in wet-room is superb. The outside patio is great - a real sun-trap when the weather is good. The field for dog walking is such an added bonus. We will book The Cow Byre again soon - that is the highest recommendation I can give.

We particularly liked the location and the closeness to lovely scenery and the sea. Good parking was available outside. It was suitable for my husband who is disabled, and we liked Saltburn very much. The local shops had a good selection of anything we needed.

The owner was very helpful and anything we asked him he was only too pleased to help. He put ramps at the doors so my husband in a wheelchair could get in and out the cottage easier, he also supplied a zimmer frame. Great service.
Mr Batey
September 2011
The owner was keen to do what he could to ensure a comfortable stay, such as rearranging furniture. The bathroom was large enough for wheelchair access and the shower had grab rail and seat. The property was very suitable for a disabled guest with some mobility and with some help available.
