We stayed in Weathercote cottage in April and the cottage was clean and comfortable with everything you need and the cottage was always warm. The weather was chilly and apart from pouring rain on the first day we were lucky for the rest of the week. In a nice part of Yorkshire with nice walks being near Cleveland way and for anyone who likes cycling being near to Sutton bank cycle centre. The farm is high up being over 900 feet above sea level with far reaching views. Getting back to the cottage there were some issues that did affect our holiday namely the cottage is heated vis a biomass straw burner and although it keeps the cottage warm with abundant hot water the boiler is in an adjoining building and emits smoke that billows out across the garden and does get into the cottage even with keeping the windows and door closed. There was an east wind all week so was unlucky the smoke blew into the front of the cottage. We love to open the windows to let some air in but it was impossible most of the time, we like to sit in the garden but only managed to one afternoon when the smoke died down. My breathing isn't good at the best of times and my daughter has asthma and we really struggled during our week at the farm as the smoke got into our clothes and even our car and could still smell it when we got home. The owners are lovely and even sorted a cycle out for our daughter so it's a pity that we did have issues with the cottage that will prevent us booking again. If it wasn't for the above issues we would have given the cottage a five star rating.

The cottage itself is lovely and very well furnished and equipped. The garden and the views across the fields are also lovely. However, if you suffer from asthma or a lung condition I wouldn’t recommend staying at the cottage. During the week we stayed there, there was a constant smell of acrid smoke, that pervaded the cottage even though we kept windows and doors tightly closed - which was a shame as the weather was lovely during our stay. We could still detect the acrid smoke smell on our clothes when we unpacked at home. During our stay waves of acrid smoke were visible blowing either behind the cottage, or across the front garden, depending upon the wind direction. Because of this it was impossible for me to sit out and enjoy the garden or the views. We asked the owner about it and she said the smoke was from a wood burner that is used to heat the water and central heating for the cottage and the adjoining building. This was a real problem for me, and I am sure played a part in exacerbating my breathing difficulties during our stay. It’s such a shame as we loved the cottage itself and the area. If it hadn’t been for the smoke problem, I would have definitely given the cottage a 5 star rating.

We had a lovely time at Weathercote cottage.. The cottage was very very clean & comfortable. The owners of the farm were very nice and very helpful. There are fresh eggs available, which I recommend. If you need grocery shopping then Thirsk is not too far away and the same with Helmsley, but be warned it can be busy! We are frequent visitors to the area and like Whitby, Filey, Bridlington & Pickering with it's wonderful railway. I took quite a few photos during our stay at the cottage, but sadly there is no where to share visitors photographs here. Maybe a feature Sykes could add.

Wethercote cottage was delightful, we had a great time.. The location is fantastic, with lovely walks around the farm, and easy access to both the Moors and Dales. We received a very warm welcome from the Bell family, and had everything we could have wanted in the cottage. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking the explore North Yorkshire or simply looking for a rural retreat. Hope to visit again soon.

The description doesn't do this cottage justice.. It's a perfect location for walking the Cleveland Way and visiting the gems that are dotted across the west of the North Yorkshire Moors all the way to the East Coast. The cottage itself is on a farm run by delightful and welcoming people who were very understanding about our pet number mix-up, and allowed us to take two dogs. If you're looking for 'away from it all' and spectacular views, this is the place to go. It's a very warm and comfortable cottage with every possible need covered. We tried very hard to think what else we might want, but could only come up with a second lavatory and a slotted spoon! There was even a collection of OS maps with walks highlighted. Helmsley is a few miles away and is a lovely little town which welcomes dogs in almost every shop and eatery, with 3 lovely pubs. The castle and it's surrounding area is well worth visiting, and the walk to Rivaulx is wonderful. The Abbey is another incredible site to visit. Going in the opposite direction from the cottage, the Cleveland Way has a good stopping point at East Paradise Farm's tea rooms which has fabulous home made cakes and serves savoury meals too. We can't wait to go back and have already booked to go in 4 months' time.

We have had a fantastic holiday in wethercote cottage, clean, comfortable, a lovely cosy cottage with everything you could ask for.. It was nice to be away from it all on the farm, and it was so nice and peaceful there. Great for walking with the Cleveland way very close by. It is also close to sutton bank with lots of good walks and the gliders to watch. We had brilliant weather and really didn't want to come home, the Bell family were very welcoming and we can thoroughly recommend wethercote cottage,we will definitely return.

A very pleasant and comfortable cottage.. We enjoyed our week there tremendously. The farm is situated in lovely open land not far from Helmsley. We were made very welcome by the owners and really enjoyed the proximity of chickens and the farm animals. The weather was so good that we mostly had our breakfasts on the bench on the lawn which was wonderful. I would heartily recommend the cottage. It is clean and comfortable and the owners are very welcoming and helpful.

A lovely cottage set on a working farm, so there was the expected farm noises (could be kind of early! ) but otherwise a really peaceful holiday. The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable, and contained everything we needed to self cater, not being great on eating out. We were there with our black labrador, who got on well with the resident dogs. I would note there is no secure garden (kind of obvious from the photos on the page) and we took a stake out and long line just in case, but mostly this wasn't needed, she stuck with us. The area around the cottage and North Yorkshire generally we found to be really dog friendly, which made the holiday for us.

Lovely cottage in a remote area, the only slightly off-putting noise was the farm's wind turbine which was right outside the cottage door.. Other than that minor complaint, we could not fault anything and loved our stay.

Just back from Wethercote, had a great time. Cottage is lovely, very clean and sooo warm, I even had to put the heating off and has everything you could need. Family are lovely and so friendly and welcoming and helpful. Paddy the farm dog is a big pet. Highlight of the whole holiday was being allowed to hold some of the new born wee lambs, Great area for walking the dog and fantastic views.

We had a warm welcome from the owner and she also came to thank us and to say good bye.. The house was wonderfully warm and amazingly quiet with all the animals and machinery around. It is situated high up and we were very surprised to see all the snow! We would love to come back maybe in the spring or summer. From their visitors book we could see that lots of the visitors come back for another visit.

Cottage overall was fine, although double mattress needs replaced and some small glasses needed as pint ones are too big. There is no freezer although owners let us share theirs. Must mention cleanliness, it was immaculate and good quality bedding

Quiet and peaceful, cosy, yet it had everything we needed and some things we did not expect. Owners were very pleasant and helpful, and the location meant we were untroubled by passing vehicles or other tourists. Fabulous places to eat nearby, and views of the surrounding countryside as you drove to and from the cottage were amazingly beautiful.

We simply had a lovely time in an area that we know well. We thought the cottage beautifully presented and located and the owners were both very helpful and friendly.. We loved the isolation but ability to get to nearby places like Rievaux, Helmsley, York and Beverley. We could not have had a better place to stay. The Farm was also very interesting and being high up and flat we managed some short walks too..Delightful

We were made very welcome. The owners family were lovely, allowed us into the lambing pens. Cottage has the best bed I have ever slept in on a holiday. Beautiful old church at Byland, made very welcome on Palm Sunday. Fantastic bakers and butchers in Helmsley - 'Masham sausages' - delicious!

Lovely remote location on a working farm. Good views across the moors and walks available from the door. Warm welcome from the owners who were at a busy time of year for the farm (lambing).
