We really enjoyed our stay at the Wood. The cottage is very clean, cosy and well-equipped with fabulous rural views and in a great location. There are lots of nice walks in the area to nearby villages, and we never tired of walking around the picturesque village of Brompton by Sawdon itself. The location between Pickering and Scarborough is ideal, with Malton, the food capital of Yorkshire, around 20 minutes' drive away. Marlene, the host, is kind, friendly and helpful and keeps the cottage well stocked with cupboard staples, cleaning supplies and a welcome tray of cereals, biscuits etc. She is on hand if you need anything, but your privacy is assured at all times. Marlene also provided great recommendations on walks and places to go nearby. We throroughly enjoyed our stay at The Wood and were very comfortable there - whether sitting out at the back of the cottage gazing out over lovely views on a sunny day or cosying up around the fire on chillier nights. Highly recommended!

This is our second stay at this cottage in 3 years.. Our eldest Labrador was happy to be back and our youngest Lab loved her 1st visit. Owner Marlene always available to offer advice and places of interest.Cottage is fully equipped with utensils etc. The views are really nice from the dining room and liked the open fire. Welcome pack on arrival. Big garden for dogs to run free and welcome addition is the gate on side making cottage fully enclosed. Highly recommended and will be returning next December

What a fabulous short stay we have just had at the Wood.. Absolutely everything had been thought of from clearing the snow for our arrival to milk in the fridge. We can't wait to come again for a longer stay and would 100% recommend to friends and family (as long as they don't need dates we need lol). Top tip - take some extra coal and firewood. You do get a great starter pack for the open fire but once you have it lit you will want it on for longer. It's super cosy :)

June 2018
The owner was very welcoming, the cottage had a lovely outlook over the Vale of Pickering, lovely garden area, and was very clean, practical and comfortable.. An excellent base for this area, with a friendly pub and butchers/food shop in the village, 5 minutes walk away.

This cottage for starters is not suitable for 6 people, 4 at a push.. This cottage could have been designed as a luxury cottage for 4 if owners had put their minds to it. Very small bathroom, especially for more than 2 people, would have liked a dishwasher instead of washing machine. No coat hooks to hang coats up, not enough kindling to light fire, no information at local property, like where to catch buses or trains, what’s around or places to go. Internet poor as kept losing signal, lack of blinds for bedrooms, kept getting woken up very early in morning by sun coming into bedroom. All in all would not return here
Mrs Sykes
May 2018
Lovely welcome from the owner and cottage perfectly placed to go to the coast, Dalby forest, Wolds & North York’s moors.. Accomodation was clean, tidy & perfect for taking a dog as all hard flooring. Would recommend this for 4 people only not six as landing bed has no privacy at all & in my opinion could not be used as a bedroom Only downside for us was lack of toilets/ensuite. As there is only one toilet (within the downstairs bathroom) it was noisy going down the wooden stairs during the night if you wanted to use the facilities. There is certainly plenty of room upstairs to add an ensuite.
Mr Roberts

The cottage was supposed to be suitable for pets.. There was a large back garden but the dog had to remain on a lead as it was not fenced in and the dog could easily run onto a busy main road.
Mrs Spear
April 2017
This cottage is fantastic, it has everything you need.. Lovely views of rolling hills and sheep out the back. Fluffy towels and comfy beds! Good location for The Moors and Coast. Dalby Forest is excellent and only 20 mins away. Excellent fish and chip shop in Snainton. Highly recommend this cottage

The Wood cottage is located centrally between Scarborough and Whitby. The cottage is nicely presented with a spacious lounge and walk through kitchen to a dining room which overlooks the surrounding countryside. Spacious twin bedroom and a double provide comfy sleeping accommodation. An open fire is a nice feature to warm a cold evening. Although the gas central heating is extremely efficient and quick warms the cottage. Wifi is available in the kitchen, dining room and lounge. Parking is to the side of the cottage down a steep driveway onto a gravel area which can accommodate 2 vehicles easily. An enjoyable weekend in a warm and cosy cottage.

July 2010
We were warmly welcomed, shown around the property and given useful information on local amenities and places to visit. The property, although on a main road, was set down from the road and screened by a high hedge with very little traffic noise and with lovely views across fields and the Derwent valley, particularly from the breakfast/dining room. The property was modern, clean and well equipped, although TV reception was very poor, even on the large modern LCD TV. Set on the outskirts of the village of Brompton, it was very convenient for its excellent local butcher's shop and the local pub -very good for meals! The very steep drive down to the parking area could prove challenging to a less experienced driver, particularly for the hill starts necessary to get out on to the main road. All in all an excellent stay in a lovely location in easy reach of the North Yorkshire Moors and the coast.
Mrs Weatherhead
June 2010
The location was excellent for touring the North York Moors. Despite the property being near to a main road, we found it to be very quiet.

December 2009
Light, spacious accommodation, rather unusually arranged, with open-plan stairs from the living room leading up to the third bedroom, which is in effect a large landing with a futon bed - would be ideal for children, with lots of play-space, except there is no way of restricting light and noise from the living-room at bed-time. Well equipped kitchen leading to pleasant small dining-room. Bathroom could do with updating and supplying with a lock. Huge lawned garden with country views. Very easy access to the coast and Moors.
Mrs Bell
November 2009
