St Hilda's Cottage Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire

Had an amazing weeks stay in St Hilda’s Cottage during mid November. The cottage is situated on a complex with a boutique hotel and a couple of other self catering properties and whilst we saw other residents, there was no disturbance from any noise. The complex manager Debbie went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible, delivering fresh eggs during our stay and even gave us a quick tour of the hotel to view some of the amazing rooms they have on site. The cottage had everything we could ask for, 2 ample sized double bedrooms, an open plan kitchen/living room/dining area, large bathroom with a powerful shower and a very welcome hot tub in the garden outside to relax in after a day walking. There was outside table and chairs and even a pizza oven but, due to the time of year we stayed, these were unused by ourselves. The kitchen was both clean and well equipped and the living room came complete with reclining sofa & armchair and a large smart TV. The cottage is located just a few minute walk to the Cleveland Way coastal path midway between Runswick Bay and Staithes with a stunning walk in both directions. Whitby and Saltburn are both just a short car journey away. We enjoyed amazing meals out at No 20 Restaurant and The Badger Hounds, both just 2-3 minute walk but I would advise booking well in advance for both. For sea food lovers, Whitby Crab Company is just down the road in Staithes with amazing dressed crab, lobster and smoked fish and for kippers there’s no better than Fortune’s in Whitby. I’m certain we’ll be back, we couldn’t fault the cottage, location or the amazing local food choices. Finally, be aware that this property changed hands during the early part of 2021 so be mindful to disregard any negative reviews prior to this time.

Excellent location, just a 10 minute walk to the coast. Cosy clean cottage. Benefit of a hot tub after many glorious walks. Well equipped and clean accommodation. Hinderwell has just what you need. 2 pubs, a chippy, butchers and tea room. Added benefit of being on the bus route. Lovely welcome basket including farm fresh eggs and locally made butter. Debbie welcoming and happy to offer advice. Definitely recommend this place.

After booking the cottage I read a really bad review so was expecting the worst ...on arrival I was overwhelmed and relieved..the cottage was beautiful ..although not detached it was spacious very clean and well equipped ..it was short of nothing ..the beds were really comfortable..the location was great ...Will definitely return but will make sure we book meals at the Badger Hounds well in advance..because of covid we were unable to eat there as it was booked up ..

Where to start. St Hildas Cottage issues List Suite of furniture different than pictured - Not a big deal , but not as advertised. Dining Table - not as pictured, not comfortable to be sat at - Clearly was from a bar, type that are commonly seen in Weatherspoons etc, as it had the number 33 on the table. Fireplace did not work - Batteries missing from remote. Decking out back - Not swept - Leaves everywhere and generally dirty in appearance. Nettles growing and overgrown in general. The hanging seat in the garden photo’s also attached, this had bird droppings on it, and was a mess, The overgrown shrubs are growing into it. The Pizza Oven in the garden is a nice addition, however, if you actually used it, would cause fire and burn the overgrown branches and vegetation around it. On sweeping the decking ourselves, we noticed that there were a number of Bee’s crawling around on the decking. In the space of 10 minutes we seen 40+ bees go into the corner were the hot tub is, and underneath the decking - Clear to see there is a Bee’s nest underneath the decking Glass out onto decking on doors - Grubby and Dirty - We cleaned this on arrival ourselves. While starting to cook on our night of arrival - I noticed when taking a plate out that it was marked with a few specks of dirt - So I cleaned it thinking that it may have been overlooked. I got a few pots and pans out, and noticed that the bun tin was really beyond any fit state to be used, let alone offered for visiting guests to use. The colander - See attached photo. The marks on this, really put us both off, it looks like human excrement. As we were still intending on staying when we noticed this, we put it through a boil wash in the dish washer. The bedrooms had clean linen on the beds, but there were grubby marks on the carpet and on the Main Bedroom Duvet - Photos Attached also. Overall the cottage needs to have a deep clean. Having both worked through the COVID Pandemic as key workers, we just wanted to get away and have a hot tub cottage were we could relax. Having a property that has been closed the last three months, we would have expected that in the current situation where hygiene and cleanliness is necessary and expected, we were very shocked and disappointed to see the state of this “Luxury” Cottage. Not being able to contact the owner has been frustrating, as we feel both the onsite help, while friendly and apologetic were very keen to make it clear that they didn’t own the property. The only contact number, which misleadingly states is for Mr David Barker, actually routes through to the staff looking after the guest house, who say they have nothing to do with the cottage. We had booked for 7 nights in total, but 2 nights was more than enough. We reported the issues to the onsite staff, and allowed 24 hours for remedial work to be acknowledged - But as per the pattern with this property - No one can ever contact the owner. Having taken this up with Sykes, and been advised them that we will be seeking a refund for the full amount through our credit card, they have told us, that if we do, they will place a debt against us, and sell it on, therefore creating a CCJ against us. Sykes – Please educate your staff, obviously if they knew that to get a CCJ (County Court Judgement) Yes the clue is actually in the name, this will have to go through court, which, due to the evidence and the photographs we have taken, will happily stand up in court and argue the case in point.

Reading these reviews I cannot believe the things people have said. Yes the furniture has changed slightly and yes there is some sort of bees nest in the back garden but who gets offended by bees? Not me and I'm allergic to them. Never bothered us once. The cottage was spacious and clean including the beds & utensils. We stayed 4 nights and had no problem, no noise, no one bothered us. Hot tub is lovely. Yes the garden could of done with a jet wash but other than that it was lovely. There were spare batteries in the kitchen drawer. Beds were comfy, bathroom is large. Was very handy having the washing machine with 2 kids but wasn't much places to hang washing. We went up to see the birds on the little farm and my daughter loved seeing the cats everyday that came to the window and door. Definitely a quirky cottage and so spacious! We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

The layout was perfect.. Extremely friendly. Dog loved it.the garden was wonderful. Completely safe for your dog and not overlooked. Added bonus was the pizza oven.fun to use and so tasty.hot tub was perfect way to end the day.two beaches a mile in each direction and in a friendly village. Could not ask for more.

So 3 of us (3 young lads) booked a 3 night stay here in February half term. -On arrival we were greeted with dirty floors, dirty pots and pans, dirty hobs and even wee stains on the toilet. We spent an hour cleaning up. -A stool was cracked right in the middle. -13 bulbs out and none of the landing lights where working. -Had to wait a full day for the hot tub to reach temperature -1/2 a toilet roll was available for 3 grown men for 3 nights!! -No salt in the salt pot -The welcome pack consisted of 6 of the little milks that you would get in McDonald’s, no tea or coffee to go with it!! -A light was hanging down -Visitors book was full and had been since October. -WiFi signal inadequate. -There’s a DVD player but not the appropriate lead to go with it so couldn’t watch available dvds -Soap holder and plinth has come off the wall in the bathroom. So all in all I’d not advise you to stay there!! I contacted Sykes cottages who we booked it through when we got back and awaited their phone call and have rang on numerous occasions since as I’m STILL waiting a response hence why I’ve put this on later to give Sykes cottages and the cottage itself time to rectify my complaint.

Lovely little cottage, nice big comfy bed in the master.. Personally we wouldn't stay with more than 2 of us. Lovely little garden with hot tub, which we still used even though it was January. Badger Hounds fabulous pub for food and the Brown Cow great local pub. Bus stop 1 minute from the cottage, great for Whitby £15 return for 2. If you stay here end of Sept to March though free parking in Whitby. If cooking in go to the local butchers, very good. The cottage is ready for a little TLC and missing a few comforts, perhaps the owners could stay in there themselfs just to see. Overall though great welcome and fresh laid eggs on the doorstep in the morning. Even got a tour of the B&B, which is lush and showed us there further projects.

The cottage is beautiful and had everything that we needed.. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The location is a perfect place for exploring other parts of North Yorkshire. Both pubs in the village offer excellent meals.

After reading a review from August 2018 I was concerned about our stay, but I can honestly say I'm not sure the review is for the same place. The Cottage looks just like the pictures, the hottub is fantastic and it has everything you need ( apart from WiFi) The owners greeted us on arrival and we had fresh farm complimentary eggs every morning for breakfast. The locations is brilliant. We had fab days in Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay as well as Sandsend beach being so close!! Towels and bedding included and no issues. The only thing I'd add is WiFi but some people prefer to get away from the world on a seaside break. Thanks for having us

This cottage was a amazing get away for me my boyfriend and dog we had such a fantastic time.. The cottage is beautiful and was very clean and had everything we needed. It's location is a little difficult to find and not very well sign posted as the b and b in front of the cottage has the same name so you have to have a walk around and knock on some doors to find somebody! When you do though the owners are lovely all the staff that live in the surrounding houses are very kind and friendly there are lots if lovely walls and it's easy to get on the bus to go to Whitby as parking there is a bit difficult. Overall we will defiantly return to the cottage it was one of the best places we had stayed in andntje hot tub was a nice little treat after long walks on the beach.

It was so peacefull and the gentleman who greeted us was lovely.. Perfect getaway for what we needed! We didnt want to come home! The beds were super comfy, the hot tub was lush, the space was great! The location was just fab as we were so close to the sea!

We were unable to speak to the owner (Mr D Barker) after making several phone calls trying and didn't have a visit from him during our stay. The supposedly detached cottage is definitely not detached (end cottage of a row)and luxury as advertised. The stale smell that greeted us when we arrived was overpowering and we had to buy several air freshners but we couldn't get rid of the smell. The cottage is dirty and in need of a lot of repairs. The outside metal garden furniture is rusty and dangerous. There was a lot of bodged DIY done that looked awful. The towels were thin and rough. The crockery and pans were old and damaged. ....and a very sparse selection. There are no wardrobes, just cupboards with shelves (no good for hanging dresses or trousers). The bath needed a good clean and descale. Overall a very disappointing stay (that we cut short because of the state of the cottage ). It was certainly not value for money. We were very disappointed.

There needs to be more plates, mugs/cups - insufficient and the ones provided were chipped or cracked, and more cooking/baking dishes/trays.. The towels were rather tatty, thin and shabby. Hot tub was good, but we had to ask the owner how long it took to warm up as by the Sunday evening it was still freezing cold. Someone had turned the temperature down, however, I would have thought that would have been checked upon cleaning and refilling.

Excellent and comfortable cottage with good facilities and good location.. Could perhaps benefit from a little maintenance of a few fixtures and fittings (eg kitchen blind, bathroom mirror) and could do with small table by the swivel chair (so says my grandson). Owners are very pleasant and helpful.

The owners were really friendly and helpful - the cottages was comfortable and met our needs - didn't want to leave had a fantastic week!

Difficulty in arranging check in prior to arrival, so arrived not really knowing what to do, contacted emergency numbers when we arrived but went to answer machine! Have to say we were a little concerned for a moment or two as it was very dark and cold but found the cottage and keys where in the door!! Lovely, lovely cottage that suited our needs perfectly, hot tub was fabulous, wonderful location, me and my 3 girlfriends loved it and have talked about returning. Only negative is the crockery, pots and pans were greasy and not really clean and needed to be washed before we could use them, this though was no biggy for us as we really enjoyed our stay! Remember to go say hello to the birds and animals at the back of the farm x

Kitchen needed some attention such as cleaning the oven and restocking of pans and some crockery.. Property clean and tidy. Hot tub well maintained

We stayed for a week it helped weather was lovely .The cottage is in a small village local pub badger and hound serves good food .The cottage is modern large on a small holding with various animals the fresh eggs are lovely and you can collect your own .Lovely cliff walks from the cottage into stathies and runswick bay .Everyone is so friendly and if you have a dog they are welcome everywhere .The hot tub is a nice addition and very welcome after a long walk We will definatley stay again comfortable cottage in a great area

We stayed over valentine's week. We were initially concerned over some of the reviews on trip adviser however they are a little out of date. The lodge is superb and yes being on a farm does mean getting a little muddy when collecting your fresh eggs, but well worth it The owner Linda was so helpful and just couldn't fault the stay. The hot tub was amazing and just what was needed after long walks. Highly recommended

Visited with my husband and our dog for 3 nights, only negative was it just wasn't long enough! Absolutely loved this cottage. Owner was incredibly friendly; there if you need anything but gave us plenty of space to do your own thing. Hot tub was amazing & being able to see the farm animals every day & collect fresh eggs ourselves was a lovely novelty. 2 local, dog friendly pubs within a few minutes walk. We particularly enjoyed the Brown Cow as the staff & locals were very friendly and the food was great. Great place to relax after a long walk. Would recommend walking along the coast into Staithes and Runswick, both take around half an hour to get to from the cottage & the views along the way are stunning. We will definitely be back & can't wait to visit again :)

St Hilda's Cottage was wonderfully warm and inviting considering we were visiting in February. The kitchen was very well equipped. The rooms were all as described. The bathroom was beautifully clean. The children loved having the farm animals so close by. The owners were welcoming.

This Cottage was a gem of a find. Wonderful location, close to all of our needs. Great walks around the area with the dogs (especially Runswick Bay Beach) coming back to a hot tub and a glass of wine, fantastic.

We had a great time at St Hilda's Cottage. The location was great for exploring the area and the village of Hinderwell has all you need for pubs etc. The owners hit just the right balance; you know they are there if needed but were quite happy to leave you to your own devices. The hot tub was perfect and collecting fresh eggs and seeing all the animals was great for us so must be wonderful for the children if you take them. The dog was made very welcome too, which for us is very important. We would definitely return and would also recommend to friends and family.

The hot tub was great after a long day walking and the cottage was ideal for us, it had a lovely kitchen. It is in a super little village which had all the amenities we required and it was very quiet which was lovely. The farm animals were so cute we visited them every day and the countryside is so beautiful.

I absolutely love Hinderwell and this is my third visit to this cottage which I booked directly with the owner who kindly allowed me to also take along my two dogs. Hinderwell and (previously) the cottage are an ideal location for me to work in peace and quiet. I had visited in November 2014, February 2015, and April/May 2015. Owners are friendly and generally helpful; I had not reviewed previous visits in the hope that by the third visit any constructive criticisms from earlier visits would have been overcome. I also recognise what the owners are trying to achieve with this cottage and the site in general and had discussed and raised several constructively critical points with Manager on both first and second visits (based on background in hotel and leisure sector) that needed attention ASAP for it to come even close to being a luxury property, and also a couple of areas of potential health and safety issues (i.e. precariously hung artwork and the spiral staircase!). I was looking forward to my third visit in April 2015; on arrival I found property had had some work carried out but very evidently as a "quick fix"; but this time the pillow cases in red bedroom were dirty with lipstick and other stains, bed runner had several piles of bird poo on it (goodness knows who made the bed because the poo was showing ...!!!), bed runner in blue room also dirty with stains (so I washed and dried this myself); 5 out of 6 of the white bath towels were badly stained and duly reported, but no offer of replacement so I took them over to the B&B and asked for replacements and that they also wash the red bed runner and they apologised and obliged willingly on both counts. When I came to use the oven I couldn't because it was so dirty and I raised this point with the owner too who said he would speak with the cleaning staff! So I either ate salads or cooked my food on the top of the oven for the duration of my stay which should have been for 7 nights and departing on the 8th morning. In the meantime I had noticed a rat in the small back garden of the cottage and duly informed the owner. He arranged for a pest controller to come in the following day and suggested i take my dogs for a walk whilst they did what had to be done; first night the controller did not show up at all and the second he had a unsuccessful visit as that night the rat visited again. My dogs were going crazy all night until about 4.30 am the following morning as they could hear the rat/s moving under the property. The following day I saw one again in the garden. Notwithstanding all of this on the 5th day I was informed that there had been a double booking error between the owner and his booking agents and that (despite the fact that mine was the first booking) the new visitors were due in on Sunday at 3 pm, so I was asked to vacate the cottage and move into either a caravan or the B&B (where a room would also be provided for my driver who was due to arrive on the 7th evening ready for departure on the 8th morning.) I expressed my concerns about this as my dogs would have to move with me and they were also moulting very heavily and this would be unfair to both parties. In the event, and as the rat had also reappeared yet again that night, I decided to cut my holiday short and return home so, with a tremendous amount of inconvenience to others, I arranged to be picked up early and left 2 nights early (without having seen the owner.) I had briefly discussed payment of my bill with the owner and in the event I deducted an amount for the two nights I didn't stay! This is such a huge let down and massive disappointment, and i sadly have elected not to return in October (which was already booked) as I am not convinced anything will have much changed. This really attractive cottage (inside and out) has the potential to be a "perfect getaway and holiday base" but in my humble opinion can certainly not be considered or identified as 5 star luxury by any means. The holiday letting agents also need to rework their description of the property as a matter of some urgency as it is very misleading; there is NO large TV or stereo in the lounge, and there is NO TV in the blue bedroom.

We loved the cottage and its surroundings. The owners were really nice and down to earth, making sure we had everything we needed to make our stay as good as it could be. The hot tub is an added bonus. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

The owners were very friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The property was exactly as described and we loved the location! The animals made us laugh and we especially loved the inquisitive peacocks roaming about the farm! The decor of the property was very well thought out and the hot tub is a lovely treat! Perfect for relaxing with a glass of fizz after a long day of exploring. All in all a lovely little cottage and we would be pleased to recommend!

My boyfriend and I came to stay at St Hilda's cottage for a relaxing long weekend to get away from it all. On our arrival Dave was very welcoming and had even left us a little welcome pack of cakes, tea, coffee and milk which was very well received after our 6 hour journey. The location was perfect, tucked away enough to feel private but also close to the local shop and pub, where the portions are enormous and absolutely delicious! Make sure you pay a visit the local sites of Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay for lovely beach walks. It's also worth a trip to the Mallyan Spout waterfall too! - Back at the cottage we loved visiting all of the animals on the farm and thought the goats and peacocks were hilarious! The hot tub was fantastic, we enjoyed sitting in it with a few bottles of bubbles most evenings. The lay out and finish of the cottage is very well thought through and to a good standard. Almost everything that has been moaned about in past reviews and in the guest book has been rectified, so please don't be put off visiting this lovely cottage!

Lovely accommodation. Very friendly hosts. The village and surrounding areas were easily accessible and we will go back next year.

This cottage is classed by Sykes as luxurious & it has 5 ticks. We strongly doubt this rating. The interior is spacious & the decor has been well thought out, but there are things that just don't hit the target. Firstly the huge T.V in the sitting room, as seen on the internet, is just a figment of the owners imagination! I am sure there was a lovely big telly there a few years ago, but now it is a tiny little thing, probably about 22 inch, & if you read the visitors book in the cottage this as been the case for quite a while. The kitchen equipment is lacking, this is a SELF CATERING holiday & therefore certain items should be supplied. NO COLANDER, NO FISH SLICE (we ended up buying one for £1.00), NO LARGER BOWLS/DISHES FOR SALADS ETC, CHEAP CUTLERY, BROKEN CHEESE GRATER, A BOX FOR AN IRON BUT LOOKED INSIDE, & NO IRON, NO BROOM.We have stayed in 4 star properties which have been far better equipped. Up stairs there is a cream carpet. It is badly stained in places especially in the master bedroom where there is a big stain right by the bed. I couldn't understand why the duvet had been put on patterned side down & when I turned it over there was a tear in the cover! No mirror at all in the master bedroom, 3 cheap plastic coat hangers & when we asked for more the owners produced a jumble of hangers for a 2year old!! The smaller bedroom had no T.V even though it states on the web that there is one in each bedroom, this also had been mentioned by previous guests. The bathroom has no socket for electric razors, & if you are short (as I am) good luck with the sink! But it is the outside which is the biggest let down. The front is scruffy , with overgrown shrubs a border of weeds, an old built in BBQ, all in all not a good first impression. The hot tub is in the back courtyard, & this area needs a lot to be done to it to make it look attractive, the cover over the hot tub is ripped, & as it is not hinged it is very heavy & awkward to get on & off. The rockery is full of weeds, there are shrubs & some bamboo but it all looks dull & depressing. There are fairy lights strung around, none of these work & the wires are just left along with the disconnected canopy which just looks awful. The decking is very grubby & needs a good power wash & it is also very slippery when wet, so please be careful! Sorry about this folks but we would not recommend this place to friends & family & if you have booked this for later in the season we really hope the owners has done some maintenance by the time of your visit. We could say a lot more but think that is enough for now!!

Lovely part of the world. Cottage was fabulous and my son loved all the animals. The owners were lovely and so welcoming and gave us lots of fresh eggs. The hot tub was fantastic we were never out of it.

Stayed with my wife and two year old son and our dog recently. Cottage was great and the owners lovely. Fresh eggs every day and lovely for our son to be able to see the animals each day. Location was fantastic the beach at Runswick Bay a mile away and some great day trips out to Whitby, Scarborough and Pickering. The hot tub was an added bonus!

Friendly genuine welcome feels like you are visiting a friend or family member relaxed environment. Excellent breakfast well presented in a lovely dinning room no disappointments with this accommodation can't wait to return .

The cottage was wonderful. It was cosy, very posh and warm and inviting. The hot-tub was a real bonus after days out walking along cliff tops and despite the strong winds was rather well sheltered. The beds were by far the best ever, very comfortable. The power shower in the bathroom was second to none. Absolutely brilliant.

The cottage was a lovely peaceful hideaway. The village had everything we could need, 2 pubs, paper shop, chip shop and a stones throw away from the stunning coast and views. The hot tub was an added bonus at the end of a tiring day.

Accurate directions to the property, friendly warm welcome on arrival. The cottage was clean and beautifully decorated with open plan living/ kitchen area which encouraged the family experience. Bedrooms were spacious and simply decorated with defined taste and the bathroom was large and spotless. The working farm was wonderful to explore and our daughter loved collecting hens eggs, she was also given an ostrich egg which we brought home. The owner Dave chatted every day and ensured we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Hot tub was lovely, went in it every day. The cottage location was close to the larger resorts of Whitby and Scarborough, and Dave recommended a child friendly beach which we visited twice. The North Yorks railway was close as was Flamingoland. All in all a wonderful cottage and would visit again. Thoroughly recommended.

The hot tub was excellent and the owner was always there to help if needed,we loved that we could take our two dogs away and the location of this cottage was great, especially for walking.

So happy that we found this lovely cottage for our winter long-weekend getaway. The weather was incredibly cold, with frequent snow flurries, which only added to the magic of this lovely cottage. The property itself was luxuriously furnished throughout, so we soon settled ourselves in, and felt very much 'at home'. The only slight problem was the regular appearance of flies in the cottage - I would imagine that in warmer weather this could be a real nuisnace. The owners were friendly and unobtrusive,and the basket of fresh eggs was a nice touch. The weather somewhat limited our walking activities, but Hinderwell is perfectly situated to explore the dramatic North Yorkshire Coastline - we ranged from Whitby and Staithes all the way up to Redcar. The high-point of our stay was relaxing beneath a frosty, starry sky in the hot tub - a memory that we will treasure.

Just back from a fabulous week at St Hilda's cottage with my husband and our staffie Snoop. Everything was great from start to finish - the owner Dave was extremely friendly and helpful and the beer from his conservatory very nice :) The cottage was warm and welcoming and very clean, hot tub perfect way to end the day after long walks. The farmyard is lovely to walk round and picking your own fresh eggs every morning a real treat! If you get chance do have a look round the themed B&B being done next to the cottage it looks brilliant so far and will be fab once finished. All in all a really lovely week and one we hope to repeat in the not too distant future!

Hinderwell is so convenient for the coast and Moors. This is a stunning cottage, really spacious with huge comfy beds! The hot tub in the little decked courtyard is perfect for lazy evenings in!

Tucked away in the corner of the farmyard, this cottage provides a great base for visits to the North York Moors and Coast. On arrival scented candles had been lit and lamps turned on to make it feel extra welcoming - a lovely touch. The open plan ground floor has a polished wooden floor, with comfy leather sofa and large TV. It opens onto a small decked courtyard with a hot tub, table and chairs. Upstairs the master bedroom has a very comfy king sized bed (plus another TV) and there's a second double bedded room, (no TV although the description says it has one). The friendly owners will show you round the farmyard (don't miss the friendly alpacas, sheep, micro pigs and emus) and we had fresh eggs left on the doorstep each morning. It is a 10 minute walk to the cliff top at Port Mulgrave and the village has 2 pubs, a butchers and a fish and chip shop. Less than a mile away, Staithes has a good sized co-op for essentials. We took our dog (a large Labrador) with us and he was made welcome in the Badger Hounds (you just eat in the bar, not the dining room).

We stayed over Christmas week, myself, hubby, a 15 year old and an 11 year old, and Bella our border terrier too! We had the most relaxing week, cottage was superb, hot tub fabulous, myself and the 11 year old would go in before breakfast! The owner David had left us an optic tree in the cottage and a Xmas card, mince pies and a lovely bottle of mulled ginger wine greeted our arrival. The badgers hound pub was fabulous, and we can highly recommend their Sunday lunch! This cottage is indulgent, I think it's more for couples and adults then for families, and will definitely look at returning with friends in the future. Surrounding area is beautiful.

The cottage is of a high quality, very well set out and owned by very friendly owners. It is great to come back to after being out and about. It is situated in just the right place for lovely walks and short drives to wonderful seaside towns and harbour hamlets. The cottage is perfect for a couple or a small family to have a great time in a beautiful part of the country.

Owner very friendly and helpful. Great setting - farm, village and nearby seaside all excellent. Hot tub was clean and was larger than expected. We were really impressed with the cleanliness of the house on arrival. Was much better than expected overall.

St. Hildas Cottage is a fantastic place to be, we went for a week and didn`t want to leave. On arrival the cottage was spotless and smelling gorgeous with scented candles on and a basket of freshly laid eggs on the door step.the rooms are big and very cormfortable, bathroom is huge!!!!! We took our dog, Hamish, and had lovely walks along the coast to the little bays that are dotted around everywhere, the Badgers Arms do amazing food and The Brown Cow were welcoming and very friendly, giving Hamish lots of fuss and biscuits!! Dave the owner of St. Hildas was really nice to us, he showed us round the main house thats been made into a themed guest house and it is AMAZING!!!!! I`d like his wife to come and decorate my house for me!!!! We can`t wait to go back to St. Hildas, we loved it!!!!!

Four of us + our dog stayed for a week in Feb. The cottage was very clean on arrival inside and outside and was well equipped, dishwasher and washing machine included. Downstairs is open plan with a large hob in the kitchen and very sociable layout. Upstairs bedrooms are sufficiently spacious and bathroom is large with great shower and bath. Garden is small, but this wasn't and issue for us in winter and the hot tub is large for a cottage of this size, it was also clean Cottage is on a working farm and children could spend time visiting the animals. There are lodges / caravans available on site too. Owner was very friendly and showed us round the B+B he is building which should be impressive once done. Nearby facilities were good. A one mile walk to Runswick or Staithes both of which are lovely fishing villages with good beaches. Hinderwell village itself is good with butchers, shop and two pubs, we ate at Badger Hounds for one of the best Sunday Roast ever. Whitby and the Moors are all in easy reach. We had a great time and would not hesitate in recommending.

The owners showed to the cottage and gave us some info on the village (and local garages) and we were made to feel very welcome. The cottage itself is gorgeous, a luxurious red leather corner sofa dominates the lounge area of the open plan ground floor directly adjacent is the spacious kitchen with led lighting and lots of cupboard space. Double doors (can be reluctant to open in the wet!) lead you into the small garden area where the hot-tub resides - Hot-tub was fantastic and used every night! The spiral staircase takes you up to the 1st floor with two good sized bedrooms which were lovely. Bed was really comfortable! and the bathroom is massive! The location is lovely, the village itself has two pubs (both do food!) with friendly locals, a fish and chip shop, a great butchers (excellent quality at an unbelievable price!) and a post office all within walking distance. A short walk (5-10 mins) finds you on the cliff top overlooking a beach and on the Cleveland Way trail from which a short walk again will take you either to Staithes or Runswick Bay. Both recommended! Obviously Whitby is just a short journey away so there are lots of places to visit and eat (and drink) around the location. We came to the cottage for a relaxing week and couldn't have been a better choice! Yes when we were there - renovation was going on the the large house - we never heard anything or had any issues!, yes there were some leaves on the decking - personally I attributed these to the large tree in the garden in the middle of a farm!! The cottage is extremely clean, functional and luxurious - a perfect retreat and its nice that you can have a stroll down the farm and look at the animals. A special mention about the owners, we (in our relaxed comatosed state) overstayed an extra day, resulting in the owners being put under real pressure to get the cottage ready for the next guests..... this was done with great efficiency and good humor, without a grumble!

Amazing from start to finish. The cottage is in a lovely location and easy to find. The village has two small pubs and a fish & chips shop, what more do you need. It's a very short trip from the local beaches and Whitby is just down the road. The owners were really friendly and helpful, we got fresh eggs waiting on our doorstep every morning. We were made to feel very welcome, with free reign to wander around the farm and look at the animals... We even were told to help outsells to the beer on tap from the conservatory next door (soon to be opened as a b&b; - we were shown around this too, it was very impressive with its themed rooms). The cottage- just lovely! Very clean with everything you'd need. We went away for a relaxing break and that's what we got. We made full use of the hot tub, which was very easy to operate and a really nice way to end the day soaking (especially on a cold jan evening). We are planning to go again later in the year.

Lovely cottage. Had problem with the bedroom tv's but the owner sorted it out straight away. Lovely fresh eggs everyday. Great location flab hot tub.

on arrival met the owner on the farm he was to busy to take us to the cottage and just pointed in a general direction, after driving around for several mins he eventualy took us the 10 paces to the cottage. The first thing to come to our attention was the state of the garden , you could hardly see the decking for leaves, which i would have cleaned myself but no brush was available, also there was dog poo on the decking left by previous guests dog. in the kitchen there were no baking trays to bake, no fishslice to fry, no sharp knives to cut bread or meats or veg and the fryingpan should be thrown away, we bought our own , the iron is a death waiting to happen as its wires are bared in several places all of wich ihave pics of. the cottage was overrun with flies and woodlice even in nov. oh and they are renovating the house nextdoor. we were not told how to operate the hot tub or what to do with our rubbish etc etc etc. and when you tried to contact the owners on the 2 contact numbers these went straight to voicemail and they never replied . alot of this could have been put right if the owners had come to greet us and ask if we had any issues . instead the only other time we spoke was when he came out as we were leaving and it was to late the hol was ruined.

A beautiful cottage in an excellent location for exploring the North Yorkshire coast. Friendly staff on farm who let my children help feed and clean the various animals on the farm.

The friendly owners, hot tub, location and farm environment were all excellent.
