We (8 adults, 2 dogs) spent a gorgeous week here in September, and we would definitely return. When we arrived, the cottage was lovely and warm, and the Aga was a real treat, making the kitchen so cosy and welcoming. The kitchen is very well stocked with all of the necessary equipment - plates, bowls, knives, utensils, cafetiere, chopping boards, pots, pans etc. There is a huge fridge and lots of freezer space. It was spotlessly clean, and there was plenty of kindling and firewood for the stoves, making it a lovely place to relax in the evenings after long walks outside. The surrounding views of the Dales are stunning and there are many walks right on the doorstep - our dogs loved it! The wet room is brilliant for cleaning up muddy boots and paws. The washing machine and dryer came in handy too! The only thing I would recommend to future guests is to make sure you're stocked up on food/wine/drinks, because the nearest supermarket is quite a drive away. But don't let that put you off from staying here! Once you've got everything you need, it's a brilliant escape in the country! We didn't want to go home! Also, the Punch Bowl Inn at the bottom of the hill is a lovely place to grab a beer/meal. We had Sunday lunch there and an evening meal and really enjoyed it.

Fantastic cottage in a stunning location.. Fully equipped with everything you could need in the kitchen. Gorgeous Aga kept the cottage warm and cosy. Brilliant base for exploring the Dales, with lots of walks on the doorstep too. Would definitely come here again.

Fabulous cottage, the best equipped cottage we have stayed in, absolutely everything you need is there, including fireguard and safety gates which were needed as our 8 month old granddaughter is crawling.. Our 5 year old granddaughter loved the playroom and its contents. We only stayed for a weekend but loved it. The location is remote and up a steep winding track but worth the journey to stay in such a wonderful place.

The cottage is spacious and very well equipped, especially in the kitchen, which was excellent for a Family Christmas with lots of cooking.. We actually liked the Aga, having never cooked on one before, but the additional gas oven was invaluable for Christmas Day cooking. The access road is tricky and very steep (around 30%) with one hairpin that is impossible to turn in one go. We were lucky in that there was no frost, but ice would make this impassable. The hard standing area outsude the cottage is limited and we fould it difficult to unpack / pack the cars without getting muddy boots. It would be so much easier if there were some stone standing. The beds were generally OK but the small one in the single room was only really suitable for a child. One niggle was the lack of opening bedroom windows - the sashes appear to be painted over and jammed solid, so it could be stuffy in the rooms at night if you like to sleep with the windows open. But, overall, it is a lovely venue and we really liked it.

This is a very nice cottage and also better equipped than many rental cottages I’ve been in.. There’s a well stocked kitchen, good laundry facilities, spare wood for the stove, some spare cosmetics and cleaning stuff etc. The location is spectacular and the cottage is warm, spacious and comfortable. The Aga which is on all the time is a nice feature. The access road is extremely steep with a double hairpin bend so if you’re not a confident driver or arrive here late at night in the dark it may be challenging to reach, but once you’re there it’s worth it. It’s about a 10 minute walk down to the pub - probably 20 minutes back up! Eight of us went and we had a great time. I would recommend Pursglove Cottage

The cottage was everything we hoped for.. Plenty of room for us all, lovely comfy beds and the most wonderful location. The kitchen had everything we needed and we enjoyed trying an AGA for the first time. As a tall family it did take a few banged heads before we got used to the low doorways, but other than that we had no complaints. We would love to come back again, although perhaps in a bit more sunshine next time!

We were a family gathering of 10 staying at pursglove for a weekend birthday treat and wow what a pleasant surprise we had.. As soon as we entered the cottage the homely feeling was felt straight away. Everything about the cottage just oozed comfort from the warmth of the lovely aga to the most comfortable beds, space for everyone to relax and enjoy this wonderful cottage with all its rustic charm and beautiful views. The four children felt so at home and especially loved the playroom where they could engage in their own" thing". We really didn't need to take anything apart from clothes and food with us as the cottage was equipped with everything you could possibly need and want, and have never stayed anywhere before where this was the case.Lots of good walking with outstanding scenery and the most beautiful sunrise to greet you in the morningThe boot/ come utility room was great for wet and muddy boots and would be a must for our four legged friends. Plenty of towels plenty of hot water and a huge roaring fire for those chilly nights, what more could one need. I only wish we could have stayed longer but we shall return again and enjoy this gem of a cottage and would recommend to anyone needing a large place to stay.

Lovely & very well equipped cottage.. Idyllic location with super views across & down Swaledale. We had 7 days of fantastic weather and found excellent hill walking in Swaledale & Wensleydale. Waking up to the unusual & evocative calls of curlews & lapwings each morning was another bonus. Owners friendly & helpful. Highly recommended and would definitely stay again when we return to the Dales.

The location was perfect, the views outstanding, all helped by amazing bank holiday weather☀️, the cottage was perfect , traditional with just the right amount of modern conveniences without spoiling the historic aspect.. The lack of phone signal on my network an additional bonus! Perfect for walks from the front door on to the open Moor, especially for an avid bird watcher like me. Peregrines, curlew, grouse, golden plover and a bonus short eared owl. The young ones appreciated the play room, although with the weather, were out a lot. Would recommend this cottage to anyone.

We all thought you should let guests know exactly how steep the access road to the cottage is! Especially for guests arriving in winter, if icy, or snow. Also if arriving after dark, as the first time we all drove up we all felt it was far worse than described and the description almost downplayed the steepness and tricky hairpins! We all agreed it would put us off in winter unless we all had 4 wheel drive cars. Apart from the access it was a perfect cottage for our group of friends having a get together. It was very suited to walkers, with its utility boot room. We loved the AGA once we got our heads around timings! The kitchen must be very cosy in winter!

This cottage was booked for weekend family get together. Snow and high winds had been forcast however on arrival there was no wood and the heating was not on. The windows were not secure from the elements hence it was draughty and one of the windows was leaking quite badly, we had to keep some curtains closed to combat the issue. Worst of all there was a rat in the kitchen which had come through a gap in the back door frame. We left atfer one nights stay. Sadly the owner offered no form of refund. Would not recommend this property.

Scenic but basic cottage.. A disagreement with the cottage owners over the bond after the holiday ruined the experience.

The cottage was lovely and completely as described.. The owner was incredibly accommodating when I contacted her directly with some questions, and Sykes responded really quickly. The owners have really thought of everything for family groups - baby-friendly crockery, highchair, different types of child-friendly sleeping items (cots/bed rail etc) and changing mats were all welcome additions and not usually found in other rentals! If I could give one tiny bit of feedback to the owner to make the cottage even more welcoming, it would be to perhaps include a "basics" welcome basket of some tea/coffee/butter/bread/biscuits/milk. It's always lovely to see this in other places and although the cottage info states that items in the freezer are available to use, a few fresh basics would be brilliant too! Thank you for a lovely weekend away!

Fantastic location in a remote and beautiful valley.. Experienced every weather type possible! Excited at being snowed in but the house was a perfect base from which to walk or ride in whatever weather!! The steep road to the property was an adventure ever time!!

Although the cottage had lovely views and was well-appointed, the access road was extremely difficult and could not be attempted in bad weather.. It needs to be highlighted that the road up to the cottage is likely to be impassible in bad weather,

The eight of us had a wonderful time in this warm and cosy cottage.. Great views with lovely walks and runs. Good pub just at bottom of hill too! Plenty of towels, ample bedding and everything we needed in the kitchen. So pleased I chose this cottage and all my friends agreed. Thank you!

Found the hair pin bend up to the cottage very difficult even for confident drivers.. Disappointed with the “Christmas decorations”....3ft tree still in the box and a very small wreath. Very well equipped and very clean. Very rural with stunning views and Great dog walks. Loved cooking on the Aga.

The cottage is exactly what we wanted; a little bit remote but close enough to the pubs and an ideal base for the many walks we set out on.. Get the fire going, break out the beer and enjoy. Highly recommended

Great location for a family gathering. We were 6 adults and 4 children (including one baby) and high chair, change mat and travel cot all provided. There is a playroom off the kitchen which is great for the kids. Kitchen is well equipped for self-catering and has an AGA in it to keep it nice and warm. Only issues we had were no dishwasher tablets included (although full complement of cleaning products/Fairy liquid etc) and no sugar or pepper or further logs after we had used the starter pack. Also probably characteristic of the style of cottage but there is no soundproofing between the floors and every word in the kitchen and lounge carries upstairs. A beautiful location and outlook although quite a hairy approach on steep hair pin bends. Would highly recommend the Punchbowl Inn at the foot of the hill for dinner (great for kids too).

Absolutely amazing cottage. Clean roomy comfortable and serene. There were seven adults staying and there was plenty of room so that we weren't on top of each other. The views were out of the world and the neighbours are friendly and knowledgeable. The cottage is faultless and grabs the imagination.

Pursglove cottage is set in the heart of Swaledale and is reached up a steep and twisty lane. The effort is well worth it. The cottage is warm and welcoming. It is very well equipped and very well presented. The standard of cleanliness is very high. The owners live in the area and are very friendly and helpful. Being in the heart of Swaledale means there are plenty of wonderful walks, starting literally on the doorstep. Richmond, Harrogate, Hawes and Leyburn are all within easy reach along roads offering stunning views. We also drove to Settle and took the train to Carlisle. Altogether a wonderful week's holiday. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Pursglove cottage, which we booked through Sykes cottages.

Stayed for a weekend with family including children. Absolutely beautiful cottage. Every detail was thought of, best equipped cottage I've ever stayed in. Spotlessly clean, and finished to a high standard. Plenty of space for all of us. We loved the boot room for coming in with wet dogs, and the kids loved the playroom. Outstanding views, this cottage is very high up - the directions mentioned a hairpin bend which doesn't quite do it justice! Take it wide, and don't get stuck like I did! Fine once you get used to it, and it certainly wouldn't put us off returning. We just loved every inch of this quirky cottage, steps up and down to all the rooms, beams and thick stone doorways. The Aga was a pleasure to use and we wanted for nothing in the well equipped pantry. Highly recommended!

This is a gorgeous, authentic cottage in a spectacular spot in the Dales. Though near Low Row, the 300ft climb gives it added remoteness. It is well furnished, retaining a natural quality but also very comfortable; the owners clearly understand people will be walking and at times muddy, they have provided for that, and have furnished it appropriately. You can walk from the doorstep and Reeth is an easy 4 mile drive away - though we walked it too! Plenty of space - we were a family of 7 adults and 2 kids at various points throughout the week. Can't recommend it highly enough.
