Lovely relaxing lodge, very private, everything you need is here, even a washing .... Lovely relaxing lodge, very private, everything you need is here, even a washing machine, Ian & Alison are very friendly & helpful, village shop stocks most things & staff are brilliant, local pub a bit posh & expensive for our liking, The Old Inn in Horton is so superior, there are plenty of great walks around the area, so all in all if you want to just unwind, come here, thank you Middle Farm

My second visit to Lavender Lodge and this time there was no snow! This property is comfortable and convenient to friends in the area.

The cottage was clean, warm and comfortable.. The village is lovely with a very well stocked village shop. The owners were friendly and welcoming, close by if needed, but in no way interfering. Lots of lovely places to walk the dog. Just the place to relax and unwind. Would definitely recommend.

We had a lovely break at Lavender Lodge.. It’s in a peaceful, beautiful setting. The village shop and pub are fantastic. The lodge is comfortable and worked really well for 4 of us and a small dog. The owners were super helpful, all went really well.

Cottage lovely, We did not do our research as we are unable to walk very far and could have done with something similar closer to amenities.. We went to other places but all the places were over an hours drive. Our mistake, however we had a very enjoyable break. We should also like to thank you for the book that we found at the lodge which was given to us..

Cottage is a purpose built holiday let, which offers everything you could need.. Owners very thoughtful leaving milk and biscuits and 6 fresh eggs off the farm. We were lucky to have extremely hot weather, sadly no sun loungers or grass to enjoy some sunbathing.

Lovely spotlessly clean lodge situated in a very quiet location.. Easy access to village shop and pub (only a couple of minutes walk). Lodge has everything you need, including a washing machine (although no dishwasher) including a family bathroom and on-suite master bedroom. We were given permission to bring our two small dogs and while the outside area was lovely it isn’t secure. A gate across to stop the dogs running off would have made it perfect. The cows in the field out the back do attract flies and this is the only bugbear. Don’t let it put you off - just bring the fly spray! Only a 5 mile drive into Sherborne for supermarkets and shops as well as having an Abbey and old and new castles. In all a lovely place to stay with easy access to Somerset, Dorset and Devon. I’d definitely recommend.

We were disappointed with the mattress on the double bed as we found it very hard and lumpy We actually slept in the two singles after the first night.. The two settees are well worn and not comfortable , material was very itchy. Toilet brushes were disgusting and need replacing as this is a health hazard Shame about factors as it was a lovely lodge and location.,but would be reluctant to rebook this lodge due to the items mentioned.

This family run enterprise is fabulous.. The lodges are very well presented and very spacious. The village location is idyllic and the local village shop and pub are simply great. My only gripe is the lack of a mobile signal in the village but there is free WiFi at the lodges.

There were a few minor issues on arrival- like no BBC tv, while all other channels worked- but they were resolved by the owners very quickly.. Not sure why there was a washing machine- how would you dry the clean clothes? Maybe a dishwasher would be a better alternative? Clearer information about recycling and waste collection arrangements would help but again owners were very helpful. Having a quality pub/hotel and village shop within a 2 minute walk was a definite advantage, especially when the weather was not good! This was a good base to see a range of attractions- National Trust, English Heritage, Monkey World etc and the coast is not far away.

December 2017
I live in Charlton Horethore and booked both Poppy and Lavender lodges to accommodate 2 families for a pre Christmas get together.. After the initial booking Alison liaised with me before the event, sorting out any queries I might have and gave us all a hugely warm welcome on arrival. The families were delighted with the accommodation which was really well presented and warm! Important for December! During the week-end Alison and Ian made sure they were around and we all really appreciated their efforts. Charlton Horethorne is, of course, well known to us but for those visiting for the first time, the village shop and pub are within a minute's walk and the lovely town of Sherborne just 5 miles away. Splendid dog walking country, we would highly recommend the area!

Although we had read the descriptions and reviews of the lodge before booking once we arrived we were impressed with how well equipped and presented it was. The lodge is immaculately clean, very comfortable and quiet. We made good use of the sitting out area on the patio at the back of the lodge which was secluded and private and just right for catching the late afternoon sun. One small point for people taking pets is that although enclosed the garden is not secure. Everyone we met on the farm and in the village made us feel very welcome and we would not hesitate to book again should we return to the area.

Loved the lodge, the decor and the peaceful country setting. A good location to explore both Somerset and Dorset combining coast and city days out. The owner was also friendly.

This was a warm and cosy lodge in a lovely setting. We liked the wood-burner to sit beside and the convenience of the en-suite bathroom. The power shower was fantastic! There was excellent WiFi and we found the owners to be friendly. There were lots of things to do in the area..

The Lodge was deceptively spacious, it had a lovely light and airy living area and both bedrooms of a very generous size with plenty of cupboard space. Anyone wishing for peace and quiet could not find a better place to be, even though within a few hundred yards of the village centre. All the local people were very helpful and friendly. Could not fault anything.

A warm, bright bungalow with everything you could possibly need. It was a very short walk to the village amenities and in a good central location for touring the area.

July 2014
The lodge is situated in a lovely quiet location in a little village but is close enough to many large towns in both directions, if you wish to travel further afield. The owners were very helpful and friendly without being imposing. Would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family and would like to visit again someday.

What the pictures don't show are the wonderful surroundings. It's almost like a village within a village. The owner's two barn conversions and all the other buildings within the boundary of the property are all beautifully built and maintained. The views of fields, trees and the beautiful stone buildings of the village are out of this world. This is chocolate box perfect. We had not previously stayed in a lodge home and were amazed at how warm and quiet it was. Inside the property has everything you could need. Quality fittings all round and loads of space. All beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. Poppy Lodge next door sleeps 6 and we sneaked a peek in there and it's just as nice. We're already trying to plan out a big family visit when we can book both of them. The family owners are always there when you need them to make sure everything is OK but never intrusive. Just the right balance. Make sure you say hello to 'Dad' when you see him going past, usually with his wheel barrow. He keeps the chickens fed and everything neat and tidy. He is a mine of information about places to visit in the area as well as the history of the village and all the juicy gossip! It's a comfortable, roomy 'proper' home for a similar price to one room in the usual budget chains. Just can't fault it. Trip Advisor rules prevent me from giving any e-mail address or phone number for the owners if you had any questions that you wanted to ask them before booking. So instead I'll tell you that the key collection is from the offices of 'Chartons Accountancy' which are right next door to Lavender Lodge. Very handy, I'm sure you will find them!

The attention to detail was excellent, and the quality of the lodge overall something to be proud of, and we would return one day. The Area was beautiful.

August 2013
The lodge was spacious and plenty big enough for the five of us. It was clean comfortable and we had the warmest of welcome. Shop and pub close by, but the surroundings so peaceful, we could feel ourselves unwinding from the moment we got there. Excellent.

Greeted by the owners on our arrival made very welcome, showed us around lodge and made sure there was nothing else they could do for us. The lodge was in lovely condition and well equipped. The standard of furnishing was very good. The village was ideal location local pub and village store and a garage (2 min walk). What we liked most was the peace and quiet, a very relaxing Easter break.

May 2013
Although we were only there for 3 days, the experience and together with the closeness of the village facilities was fabulous and we cannot wait to go back for a much longer period next time. We have already told work colleagues and family of this little part of paradise.
Mr Baker
September 2012
Lovely cottage, it was spacious and clean and everything we could ever have needed was provided. Nice village setting with an excellent shop and pub just seconds away. Owners were very friendly and on hand if needed but never intrusive. The layout of the site meant that the cottages felt suitably isolated from the owners house. The cottage was very dog friendly which is essential for us.
