December 2020
I recently had the pleasure to stay at this fantastic cottage after the recent lockdown. It was the perfect place for my husband and I to recharge our batteries and escape the dreaded Covid 19. Myself being a nurse and my husband working in the food industry, we have both been working flat out throughout 2020. I have to disagree with a previous review, as we found Ivy cottage spotlessly clean, no cobwebs or spiders, the cottage was well aired, no damp smells or odours. We also had no issues with the log burner, we used it every night after a days walking and the patio door opened with no issues. We had fresh linen for the bed and adequate supplies of kindling and wood for the log burner. The week was just perfect, we both wished we could have stayed longer, but alas work commitments wouldn't allow us to. Its location was ideal, set in a very quiet/private area with stunning views, just a short walk outside of Grewelthorpe village. We are avid walkers and there where so many stunning walks on the door step which was ideal for us. The owner made our stay at Ivy cottage extra special by putting up lovely Christmas decorations and a tree, as well as leaving some chocolates and wine for us both on our arrival. They are obviously very passionate about their business as Ivy cottage was just like home from home, it had everything we needed and much more for our weeks stay. I would definitely recommend Ivy Cottage to both my family and friends without hesitation. Hope to re visit during 2021 to explore the surrounding area even more.

We had a lovely holiday.. The cottage was beautiful, Covid safe, well equipped and in an ideal location. We would be prepared to pay a higher rent for the addition of wifi.

On arrival to Ivy Cottage we could hardly see the sign, very poorly sign posted. A beautiful looking cottage, and pictures had been done very well on the advert as we were surprised to see 2 other dwellings very close to the cottage, so not as private as we'd of liked. Once in the cottage, the first thing that hit us was the smell, it was damp and quite dirty in places, the bedroom had lots of cobwebs and a few spiders, the kitchen cupboard were dirty. It's a very cold living room especially with the tiled flooring, we put the log fire on which looked lovely I must say however after 20 minutes, smoke filled the room, we tried everything we could do get the smoke away. The patio doors were stuck, just could not open them easily, I feel that was a safety hazard and should be dealt with urgently as only 1 door worked ok. All in all Grewelthorpe is a stunning village with a lovely pub around the corner and the home made meals were tasty. Unfortunately we wouldn't visit Ivy Cottage again, as it was quite cold and the smell was unpleasant, I would of thought as we were the first people in after lock down the cottage would of had a major clean, unfortunately I feel that didn't happen. We didn't stay the whole week as planned we did leave early, I hope with this truthful feedback, things change for the better.

Communication with Sykes was good, with detailed information being sent prior to our holiday.. Further necessary details about what we needed to bring with us were relayed to us when we spoke to the owner about key collection. We understood that changes needed to be made within the cottage to conform to the regulations around Covid-19, and we hope that in time the photographs displayed on the Sykes website are updated to reflect these. The cottage is very comfortable and in a lovely location with a super view from the back door. The fact that we could walk to Hackfall Wood from the cottage was very pleasing and to make the most of our location we made two very enjoyable visits there. We would also recommend the local pub, The Crown Inn, as we enjoyed a delicious meal there. The DIY milkshake hut in the village also has to be experienced!

One of the loveliest cottages I’ve stayed in, every thing you need for a relaxing stay. Clean, cosy and and just as described by the advert. Village and location perfect in a beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales. Couldn’t have asked for more. Will definitely be staying again.

The cottage was just as described very clean and tidy and a nice touch with wine and chocolates on arrival, everything you would require for your stay, plenty of good walks near by and also a short drive from the cottage, just a couple of small things, we arrived in the dark and could not see the sign for the cottage could do with being a bit more clear, the underfloor heating was on all the time and it got quite hot at night that we had t o open the patio doors to cool the lounge off, there did not seem anyway to control it as there was no instructions in the book,

Lovely cottage, Clean, well furnished, kitchen spotless and well equipped with quality items.. Bedroom and bed very comfortable with a very nice on suite. also a separate toilet off the main entrance area. The property is within walking distance of a nice Pub (The. Crown) that offers a nice menu and real ales (closed on Mondays) (no frozen chips here). Greenthorpe in well positioned foe visiting Ripon ,Masham Harrogate Thirsk infant central for many places. We had a great holiday and would defiantly RECOMMEND Summer or Winter as there is also a very cosy wood burner in the lounge. We will be returning.

I primarily chose this cottage as it is located east of the Yorkshire Dales and yet only within 30 miles to the centre of the Yorkshire Moors.. It was an added delight to find it is peaceful situated and a beautifully, fully equipped cottage with high standards. It has it's own private gated parking area and garden where I enjoyed looking out at the beautiful countryside whilst breakfasting. Being situated where it is you are spoilt for choice of different places to go visit and many stunning walks to enjoy. Ideal for outdoor enthusiasts as well as people wanting a lovely UK break.

Ivy cottage was lovely set in a beautiful area, with lots to do and see, The only fault we found was the heating, it was a very cold week and the cottage was not warm enough in an evening, although the lounge had a wood burner not everyone wants to be lighting a fire after a days outing.. but a part from this we had a lovely holiday and will certainly use Sykes cottages again. Clean cottage.. Lovely helpful owners. They even decked the cottage out festively for Christmas. It is necessary to use the log burner as well as the electric storage heaters if it is cold and wintry outside. The log burner is very efficient. They gave us extra blankets for the bed but we like a cool bedroom. We put down newspapers in the hall for our muddy boots to avoid mess. The owners are planning a porch; good idea. Lovely peaceful environment, great walks and a friendly pub with good food in the village.

Utterly lovely little cottage! Everything we needed was there! Lovely little pub round the corner The Crown Inn literally minutes walk! You can get stunning food and amazingly priced drinks! They also sell all the logs and starters you need! We were there most nights for a swift one before lunch! The log fire at the cottage was just what we wanted! Most nights we didn’t even have the TV on just listened to the crackle! Would recommend highly!
