Area
The village of Embleton can be traced back to beyond medieval times and during the Wars of the Roses, it suffered much from the ravages of Scottish invaders. Today, ancient castles and ruins stand testament to Embleton's turbulent past; the Church of Holy Trinity is a late-Norman church, dating from the 12th century, later to be restored in Victorian times. Viewed from the sea, the undulating whinstone ridge that shelters much of the village from east winds, resembles a caterpillar, hence the old name 'Emeldune', meaning the hill of the caterpillar. The rolling countryside means that golfers can enjoy a good 18-hole links golf course that overlooks the beautiful Embleton Bay. Recently launched is the Embleton Heritage Trails Project, consisting of six trails, ranging from a short walk around the village, to a longer six mile route, following the spectacular coastline and inland into the tranquil countryside.

Region
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

If you are loking for a high octane, centre of town stay this is not the place for you. If you want to relax, unwind and recharge your batteries look no further. It was spotlessly clean and had everything you could want. I've never returned to the same location twice with my teenagers but they asked to go back next year and we've already booked!

Had a lovely family holiday in Northumberland! High Hemmel house is a great location for exploring the area! The walk to the beach as stated was more like a 45 min hike and with 2 little ones very tricky certainly couldn't carry all your beach stuff there also but could sea the see from the cottage Hot tub was lovely as was the pool If you want a great family break in a beautiful location this is perfect but just take lots of extra bits with you as nothing provided

Very disappointed in standard of bedding and towels.. Bedding was bobbled it was so worn and towels very thin and tiny. Only tiny striped towels for hot tub. The carpet in the down stairs bedroom was stained. The cottage had been recommended to us and previous occupants had had fluffy towels and robes in the past. The times for check in and check out were very confusing one email said 3 pm check in and 10am checkout others said 4 pm and 11 am.... We tried to phone the numbers left in the book re the hot tub and times but none were ‘ available’ which is not good.No one came to see if we were ok throughout our stay ,we were left to work everything out.. We only had access to the pool for one hour each morning which was not in the booking details. Finally one of the cottages opposite us has their toilet right in the window . It is not pleasant sitting in your lounge seeing people very obviously at their ablutions! Given the price for the cottage which is supposed to be 4 to 5 star rating I was very disappointed. The cottage is beautifully laid out and in a perfect location and small details and personal touches would put it up to 4 star but in present condition I really couldn’t rate it above a 3.

I stayed here as one of 6 female friends; our 3rd visit. It is spotless and so comfortable; everything you need is provided, from dishwasher tablets to matches and logs for the log burner. Although we used the hot-tub, the new swimming pool was a welcome addition this year. The staff that we met were friendly and welcoming. The beach isnt far away for anyone to 'blow the cobwebs away' but staying in relaxing was also a hit! I can't recommend this enough - we've already booked again....... :)

This is our second holiday in the cottage and we’ve booked up for next year! It’s a beautiful cottage with everything you need to have a wonderful holiday. We are a group of 7 female friends and we all think it is perfect. The hot tub and swimming pools are luxurious extras which we love. It’s quiet & comfortable with beautiful surroundings.

Wonderful location and it’s such a clean and spacious cottage.. The cottages in general are great and the pool and the system used is wonderful. We have stayed now in two of the general cottages. This cottage is beautiful and spacious. I would personally just upgrade the bedding and beds. The upstairs bedroom in the joined room is not great. Also the quilts in general are thin and there are no spares That is my only developmental feedback. I would and will book this again in a heartbeat and highly recommend Both Sykes cottages in general and also the Embleton cottages. Thanks for a great week

We (6 women)stayed at this beautiful cottage for 3 Nights. Cottage is clean, spacious and is very well equipped. Decorated beautifully throughout. Lovely extras like good quality toiletries/bathrobes. We all enjoyed the hot tub. The owner is friendly and was available to answer any queries very quickly. Plenty of villages/pubs/walks nearby. We liked it that much, we have booked up again for next year.

Myself and several friends whom I went to school with met up here for the weekend. The weather was amazing so made full use Of the hot tub. Despite their being several cottage together we could not hear anyone else. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed, the owners had thought of everything. The layout of the cottage, the back yard and hot tub, grounds were perfect especially the park for a space hopper race on our way back from the pub! The staff were friendly and would definitely Recommend staying here and will be visiting again.

Our partyconsisting of 2 grandparents,2parents and 2 teenage granddaughters have just returned from a week holidayat this extremelywell appointed property. The initial view on arrival was of a modern development with a very appealing outlook. On entering the quality was obvious the furnishings and fittings showed quality and taste. This first impression was carried throughout the whole house. A hot tub completed our satisfaction . The 2 grandchildren and grandad enjoyed the daily feeding the ducks. The village is close enough for basic shopping and newspapers. And the provision of WIFI kept the girls happy. The various pubs/restaurants were all close and were satisfying our various tastes. To sum up, execellent facility and we would hope to return.

Beautiful, comfortable and well equipped accommodation. An isolated location but short walk to a lovely beach. Great base for exploring the area or walking. We did Alnwick, Seahouses and a day out to Holy Island. After a hard day sight seeing and walking, the options of inside with a blazing fire or outside in the hot tub! Loved it and highly likely to return.

High Hemmel House was an absolutely fantastic property, for what we were seeking. We were a group of 4 couples looking to catch up and enjoy the Northumberland coast (and a few of the pubs!). The location of the property is perfect for such needs. Everything about the property was exactly what we wanted, and everyone commented on how great it was!
