Area The village of Embleton can be traced back to beyond medieval times and during the Wars of the Roses, it suffered much from the ravages of Scottish invaders. Today, ancient castles and ruins stand testament to Embleton's turbulent past; the Church of Holy Trinity is a late-Norman church, dating from the 12th century, later to be restored in Victorian times. Viewed from the sea, the undulating whinstone ridge that shelters much of the village from east winds, resembles a caterpillar, hence the old name 'Emeldune', meaning the hill of the caterpillar. The rolling countryside means that golfers can enjoy a good 18-hole links golf course that overlooks the beautiful Embleton Bay. Recently launched is the Embleton Heritage Trails Project, consisting of six trails, ranging from a short walk around the village, to a longer six mile route, following the spectacular coastline and inland into the tranquil countryside.
Region Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

Wonderful house and close to lots of great spots to visit.. A bit further to beach than we had appreciated which required abit of planning for little ones, but children’s play area and use of in door pool were very much appreciated. We had a great holiday.

A very promising property.. The quality of the beds was disappointing for the price we paid for the property. In downstairs bathroom, cold tap loose on basin, toilet flush loose. Bath towels were on small size (pleased we had taken our own bath sheets).
In the lounge area I don’t think they had moved the unit under the TV for a long time looking at the dirt you could see. (We did not fix). Likewise under the large sofa unit and toys were found under a bed in one of the upstairs beds when we checked that the children hadn’t left anything. Elsewhere the property was clean.
Unfortunately no key available to open the Juliet balcony doors.
Well equipped kitchen and large range cooker. Would have appreciated some pint glasses.
Nice little playground for the children and pool is one of the best in a small complex we have come across.
Description does say walk to beach was pushchair friendly, well perhaps if you have an all terrain slimline model it may be. Pleased we had no children requiring pushchair.

The swimming pool policy is very restrictive and ends up in the pool not being used half the time.. Graythwaite estate has about 15 houses that use their pool. No timetable and we barely shared with anyone.

Granary Stone House is in a wonderful position with amazing sea views.. It is well placed for visiting some of Northumberlands most beautiful and interesting sights. There are convenient walking trails along the coast and Dunstanburgh castle is within easy walking distance. Granary stone House is part of a small complex of holiday cottages and it is good to be able to share access to the swimming pool with the other residents. The pool is a good size and well maintained and heated.

The rental was very comfortable, clean and had everything supplied which we could possibly require. The swimming pool was clean and warm.
The only disappointment was the swimming pool. When I made the booking through Sykes the picture of the accommodation was shown attached to the swimming pool. There was nothing on the website which listed this as a shared swimming pool. We only discovered that this had been misleading advertising when a friend looked on the website weeks later and informed us that it was advertised as a shared swimming pool. This was extremely disappointing for all of our party as this was the main reason we booked this particular accommodation. The allocation of slots for use of the pool need looking into. To only find out when your slots are on arrival is very unsatisfactory, especially when planning days out and activities away from the rental. For our Friday to Monday stay we were only allocated two one hour slots, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday. We also noticed not all of the allocated slots for the pool were used when it would have been more convenient for us to use them. I really do think you should come up with a better system.

We loved its location.. The walk to the beach was superb. The accommodation met all our expectations for the 9 of us age range 7-75. The only suggestion I would have is maybe to add a column in the signing in book for the pool for swapping a time slot? It’s hard to please everyone but there is no way of knowing if a) you won’t to able to use pool in the day and therefore your slot free or b) just ask if anyone would like to swap a time ?

The rental was perfect for my husband’s surprise 70s birthday and my granddaughter’s 3rd birthday, it accommodated 8 adults and 4 children perfectly.. It was very comfortable, clean and had everything supplied which we could possibly require. The swimming pool was clean and warm.

To only find out when your slots are on arrival is very unsatisfactory, especially when planning days out and activities away from the rental. To be allocated it from 2.30 - 3.30pm on Mothering Sunday is very unsatisfactory when lunching away from the accommodation and not being able to swim on a full tummy. We also noticed not all of the allocated slots for the pool were used when it would have been more convenient for us to use them. I really do think you should come up with a better system.
Also a lighter or matches, if allowed, would have been helpful to enable us to light the log fire.

We loved our family stay in Granary Stone Cottage.. It had lots of little extras that made it a truly wonderful experience, from shampoo, body wash, body lotion to beach towels and chocolates on the table. We would definitely recommend this cottage to everyone. The beach walks were a must with breathtaking scenery. Even if the weather was bitterly cold. We had great fun in the pool too.

A great place for a family holiday – Granary Stone House is very comfortable and well designed, with plenty of space for our party of three generations.. The pool table gets plenty of use in all weathers. In fact we were lucky with the weather which meant we could enjoy the longish walk through fields and wild flowers down to the beach. It's a good mile (good exercise for joggers and walkers of all ages in our party) wouldn't be quite such fun in wet and windy weather. It's a beautiful location and there's plenty to explore Low Newton and Embleton and Craster in particular are all welcoming places to visit with good local pubs, excellent sea food and great character. The sunset cruise from Seahouses to the Farne Islands made a perfect activity on the last night.
All in all, a very happy week. We can highly recommend Granary Stone House, the efficient friendly support from Sykes, and we hope to be back.

Your website said there was a 'newly built swimming pool'.. There wasn't....it was still a building site, so we had 6 very disappointed children.
That needs to be amended.
Other than that, an excellent holiday thank you.

We booked this house partly because of the size which was very adequate for our extended family.. The snooker table was well used. We were also hoping for somewhere with a walk to the beach but found the 'mile push chair friendly ' walk to the beach hard work and were only able to manage it once.

The Granary Stone House provided everything we needed for a family holiday.. It was my husband's 70th birthday and we took the whole family for the week with ages spanning from 22 months to 70. We had a brilliant time, the kids and adults enjoying it in equal measure. You thought of everything from beach towels to games and videos for the kids. We all loved it. Thank you.

My friends and I had a really lovely week, staying in this high spec cottage that's only about 1 mile from the most amazing beaches. Lovely and quite area with some beautiful scenery and great pubs nearby which makes it a great location for exploring the Northumberland country side. You'll find everything you need for a great self catering holiday as they had thought of everything to make us feel right at home! My friends and I would highly recommend this house.

This is an exceptional property on a superb development. A perfect place to bring our family together. The size of the property allowed everyone to have some space but gather when needed. The location was fantastic and the dogs thoroughly enjoyed the field and the beach. The house offered everything, a real home from home and we were warmly greeted by the owner. Our thanks to everyone at North Farm Cottages for making our holiday so perfect.
