Area
The village of Embleton can be traced back to beyond medieval times and during the Wars of the Roses, it suffered much from the ravages of Scottish invaders. Today, ancient castles and ruins stand testament to Embleton's turbulent past; the Church of Holy Trinity is a late-Norman church, dating from the 12th century, later to be restored in Victorian times. Viewed from the sea, the undulating whinstone ridge that shelters much of the village from east winds, resembles a caterpillar, hence the old name 'Emeldune', meaning the hill of the caterpillar. The rolling countryside means that golfers can enjoy a good 18-hole links golf course that overlooks the beautiful Embleton Bay. Recently launched is the Embleton Heritage Trails Project, consisting of six trails, ranging from a short walk around the village, to a longer six mile route, following the spectacular coastline and inland into the tranquil countryside.

Region
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

The accommodation was brilliant well equipped and bright.. The access to the pool was great as it was for our sole use at times. Although the Cottages were all full you did not feel overwhelmed by people. The playground was a welcome addition for the youngest member of the party.

We had a really lovely holiday in this beautiful cottage but would point out that the beach is more than a ten minute walk away (at least 20 minutes and probably longer with small children), and the swimming pool was only available to us on 3 days out of the seven with an allocated time slot of one and a half hours.. Also, the double bed was extremely firm, not 'soft' as stated in your description!

But DVD player only worked occasionally, the disc would not load.. No potato peeler, cheese grater, cutlery drainer. No soap dish in shower. Cheap kitchen equipment.

The holiday house was perfect.. The owners had thought of everything. The location was beautiful and the sun rises were amazing! The kids play area opposite was brilliant, allowing the kids to play whilst we could see them from the house. If you are planning a working holiday and need wifi it will drive you around the bend but I think it's a Northumbrian wide problem not just at the cottage! The beach is about a 20-30 minute from the house.
