Ghyll Cottage is an end-terrace cottage close to the delightful North Yorkshire village of Rosedale Abbey. The cottage sleeps four people and has one double bedroom, a single with a pull-out bed and a family shower room. Also in the cottage is an open plan living area with a kitchen and a sitting area with an open fire. Outside is a front lawned garden with outdoor furniture. Set in the heart of the North Yorks Moors National Park, Ghyll Cottage is a lovely holiday destination for any family.

Accomodation Details
Two bedrooms: 1 x double with basin, 1 x single with pull-out bed. Shower room with shower, basin and WC. Open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and sitting area with open fire.

Area
Perfectly positioned for touring both the Moors and the Coast, the picturesque village of Rosedale Abbey is situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Located in Rosedale, a beautiful valley of sweeping hillsides and breathtaking views, this lovely little settlement is surrounded by wonderful moorland countryside and offers walks in every direction. The village is home to the remains of a 12th Century Cistercian Priory - a stone pillar, staircase and sundial are all that remain, which gave the town its unusual name. The village is now largely made up of stone-built cottages clustered around the village green. Packed with local amenities such as shops, tearooms, an art gallery, a glass studio and three old country pubs, there is plenty to do without venturing to nearby Hutton-le-Hole, Ryedale and Kirkbymoorside.

Region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Really pretty, comfortable , well equipped cottage with fantastic views from every window. A little off the beaten track but a lovely village with great tea rooms and two good pub/restaurants ( all dog friendly). Well situated for exploring the North Yorkshire coast and surrounding area.

The "roadside parking" was a real issue.. We were only given some clarity on this by email on 29th September, 3 days before we were due to leave for our holiday. This email spoke of off road parking at the bottom of the steps to the row of cottages. When we arrived we found the off road parking was occupied by a deep fenced-off excavation, seemingly work in progress by the water company, and a large heap of hard core, presumably left by the water company to back fill the excavation when work is completed. All of which made it extremely difficult to park with any sense of security. This situation soured our holiday and I believe Sykes/owner should have informed us of the full facts about the condition of the off road parking, allowing us time to change the date of our visit or Sykes/owner to make alternative arrangements for parking, in what is a very tight location under normal circumstance. Also I don't understand why there is no thought given to mentioning, that due to the steps that have to be used to exit and access the cottage on each occasion, that these steps might be difficult the older person or anyone with a walking difficulty. It sounds as if we have nothing good to say about Ghyll Cottage, which is not correct. The cottage was comfortable and with great views, but this experience leads us to think twice about ever using Sykes in future.

The cottage was very cosy and in a fabulous quiet location, with stunning scenery on the doorstep.. What more can I say, we would definitely stay again!

Unfortunately the cottage wasn't deep cleaned before our arrival.. With the current covid 19 situation this was a concern for us. Both owner and Sykes fully understood our concerns but could not fix the issues during our stay. It didn't spoil our short holiday and we received a reasonable refund.

Lovely cozy cottage in a quiet hamlet.. Well equipped with everything you need. Great location for walks, trips to the coast and the steam railway. No Wi-fi meant that we planned walks and activities ahead of our holiday although there is plenty of local information in the cottage. Clear directions from the owner so easy to find. Really enjoyed the lack of Wi-fi as it meant that we did things together as a family, watched tv, played the provided board games, talked, ha ha! Secure garden for a small terrier size dog. Thoroughly recommend.

Lovely cottage in very beautiful valley.. Village and shops within a couple of miles. Great to be able to walk from the front door. Lack of internet and any phone signal was challenging. Good to have a call box in the cottage just in case. Neighbours (and caretakers) very nice and helpful. We were warned of road works once we had booked - this allowed no vehicle access for two days. Also a bit challenging.

It was rather difficult to find the cottage and more remote than we expected it to be.. We certainly missed the internet to make research for anywhere we wanted to visit or see but we did like the cottage and the surrounding.

We stayed in the cottage for five nights It's a lovely place but very remote and hard to find. We really enjoyed our stay in this nice and comfortable cottage but found the lack of internet a bit annoying due to the difficulties to make plans for where to go and what to do the coming day.

Lovely quaint cottage, welcoming neighbours, amazing scenery.. Our miniature schnauzer was safe in the enclosed garden (a larger dog may be able to escape). Nice pubs and tea rooms within a mile and half.

This was our second visit to Ghyll Cottage as we love the area so much and the cottage, with it's peaceful environment, is just what we love.. Everything came up to expectations including the weather in April.

This was the first time my partner and I had used Sykes Cottages for a trip - specifically as we were requiring dog friendly accommodation - and everything was incredibly straightforward and simple to research, select, book and schedule our arrival time etc, that the trip has been a delight.. The Cottage was exactly as advertised and the facilities matched our expectations. The setting was stunning and the host and neighbours were so helpful and friendly that all of us (dogs included) had a really enjoyable and comfortable stay. Already booked for another cottage for next year in a slightly different location. Can only imagine we will continue to use Sykes Cottages for many years to come if we have anything like as good an experience again. Keep up the good work!

Very comfortable cottage in a peaceful location with breathtaking views.. Friendly helpful caretaker. Very friendly area too. Rosedale Abbey is lovely and the food at 'Graze on the Green' is sublime (even for veggies!). Wonderful base for exploring. A couple of minor things: It would be useful to have a lamp in the sitting/tv area as the wall lights are quite dim, although the 'reading corner' in the dining area, with the armchair and floor standing reading lamp was really welcome. Also, as the weather was very changeable (hot for several days then suddenly cool) storage heaters aren't flexible enough as they need to be switched on the day before, so an effective plug-in heater for downstairs would be good for these situations when it doesnt warrant an open fire. In general, loved the house and would definitely book again.

This was a lovely, clean well equipped cottage with all the little touches which holiday accommodation often lacks.. The neighbours are so kind and could not have been nicer. Not suitable for the elderly though, owing to the lack of parking, long steps to the lay-by and steep staircase in the house.

Parking and access to cottage not good could.. Difficulty for anyone not very mobile. If other cottages adjacent to the property were occupied it may be difficult to find a parking space in the vicinity.

Cottage, facilities and location great, we would definitely recommend it.. However although we acknowledged that we were running late in the expected time of vacation (>10mins) the cleaners were rather unreasonable and stormed into the cottage at 10:34am. I hope that in future they will consider being more understanding in such circumstances.

What a fabulous cottage! On arrival we found a very comfy and cosy retreat, situated in the hamlet of Thorgill near Rosedale Abbey. No WiFi or mobile signal, the only means of contact with the outside world was via a payphone in the cottage. It was brilliant! The walks around Rosedale and beyond start right from the front door and suit all abilities. Our particular favourite was along the route of the old mineral railway at the top of Chimney Bank. The views from here across Rosedale and beyond are amazing. It was lovely to come back from our walks and settle down next to a roaring fire with a glass of something warming! I would recommend this cottage to anyone looking to get away from it all. It is isolated, but that is part of its appeal. If you need any help, the neighbours are wonderful. Special thanks to Mike for lending us a dog lead (long story!)

Beautiful location, so peaceful, everything worked in the cottage and it was well equipped, even the knives were sharp, a usual problem with cottages..

Fantastic location with the most beautiful scenery. Be warned very remote - just what I wanted a complete getaway, but for some it may be too isolated. House in great condition and furnishings top quality. Open fire an added bonus. Ideal place for walking. Did not miss lack of wi-fi -helped to make the holiday a complete break. Can,t wait to return

Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Scenery was fantastic. Peace and quiet away from normal daily life was much appreciated - lack of internet added to this (daughter wasn't impressed though!!). Open fire, wildlife, walks etc - all fabulous.
