Had the most relaxing week in beautiful Northumberland! The Cowshed exceeded all our expectations. The photographs don’t do it justice. It’s spacious, and yet still so cozy. It’s been so tastefully renovated, . A fabulous mix of old and new. We loved its quirkyness, the artwork and all the little touches that make it feel like home. It was lovely to find a welcome hamper with Prosecco, coffee and tea & milk in the fridge! It has everything you need for a comfortable stay, plenty of lovely handsoaps and toiletries.. it was also spotlessly clean. Margaret is a lovely host and was very welcoming, reassuring us that if we needed anything then we only had to knock her door. Thank you again for a super holiday. We can’t wait to return, hopefully later in the year. Dee & Tony Newman.

This is the second time we've stayed at The Cowshed.. Everything was just as advertised, hence, our decision to book here again. The property was clean and comfortable, just what you'd expect in the current climate with plenty of anti-COVID-19 provisions. We enjoyed visiting the local farm shops and cafes for the wonderful food they have to offer. No doubt, we'll be coming here again.

The coffee, shortbread and Prosecco were a nice surprise and much appreciated.. My only gripe re the kitchen equipment would be a lack of microwaveable containers, a fruit bowl and a salad bowl but the abundance of books and information leaflets plus the big shower more than made up for these omissions.

Margaret and Malcolm extremely friendly owner/host available in farmhouse next door to answer any questions or give advice for days out etc.. Their dogs, cats and hens a bonus for us. Lovely garden to enjoy if weather is kind.

A highly recommended location - we loved every bit of the Cowshed.. Great location, fantastic layout and set up and much bigger than you imagine on the pictures Attention to detail is impressive yet preserving a really relaxed feel with a fantastic open plan living and cooking space. Lots of great touches that show the owners care Privacy was really thoughtfully handled too - the owners were available if and when needed, but a real sense of it being our space Thoroughly recommended!!

Cottage was so warm and cozy.. Everything went like clockwork from booking through to getting in the front door. The cottage has everything you could ever need, highlights included the welcome hamper goodies, Fairy lights, LP player (and selection of albums) and the cool chickens...

This is one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in! It's very clean and tidy yet full of quirky and interesting bits and pieces. It's very roomy but still has a cosy feel. It has easy access to the A69 yet is very quiet. The little hamper of 'goodies' was a lovely touch. A wonderful place to spend some quality time in Northumberland.

The Cowshed is a wonderful place to stay, it’s beautifully decorated and has everything you need.. We traveled with my son who is 15 months old and he loved the space to play and I didn’t have to worry about any stairs with it being all on one level. The Prosecco, biscuits and crisps were much appreciated and we were so comfortable and felt very relaxed. Thank you

On the edge of Northumbria with Hadrian's wall right on the door step. Maeket towns of Hexham and Corbridge just down the road. Newcastle is 20 minutes away and the glorious North East coast is 35 minutes drive, Also good for visiting Alnwick, Bamburgh and Seahouses. Generous welcome pack, including fresh eggs, milk, tea and coffee, and a bottle of Prosecco. Margaret was on hand if any problems. Plenty of kitchen equipment, the best we have found. The forget me cupboard is a nice touch. The property was warm and cosy, we didn't want to leave. Have booked again for May as it is that good.

This cottage is very handy for Newcastle and Northumberland.. You feel you are in the countryside yet you are only 20 minutes from Central Newcastle. The cottage was well maintained and felt very comfortable. The owners are very nice and on-site, but you would never know it as they left us well alone, although they were there if needed. Very nice welcome basket on arrival, and wonderful fresh farm eggs from the hens wondering around. I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage.

This was a very comfortable cottage.. The welcome pack was much appreciated and included a little basket of fresh eggs. We really enjoyed the record player and vinyl LP's to play. The owners were very helpful. This would suit someone of limited mobility as everything was on the flat and there was a walk in shower in the master bedroom. We enjoyed the 2min walk to the pub for dinner and the 2 min walk to the arts centre for lunch. We even bought a picture from one the the artists in residence! Great position for exploring Hadrians Wall, but also only 30 mins from Durham.

A beautiful place to stay.. We combined visiting family with seeing more of Northumberland. The cowshed was well equipped and a welcome basket of goods was much appreciated- I have stayed in many cottages and it is often these little touches that are much appreciated. The owners responded efficiently to any queries we had . Good position for eg Newcastle, Hexham, Roman Wall and beautiful countryside. It is slightly close to the B road, however that can’t be remedied and did not impact on our enjoyment of returning to it everyday ! A big thank you to the owners, it is a well loved place.

We loved the Cowshed, it was so cosy and the retro decor and quirky touches were done very artistically and tastefully.. The kitchen had everything you would need for a week, oven was spotless and all appliances were clean, modern and working perfectly. I loved the vintage table and all the mismatched furniture, really worked well! Comfy bed, big walk in shower in the en suite and perfectly peaceful at night for a good nights' sleep! We toured the area easily from this base and would love to return here one day. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Cowshed to friends and family.

Fantastic cottage containing everything we needed for a family break of 1 week. Welcome pack was much appreciated. Great location for visits north south east and west. Warm, comfortable and spacious. Much thought had gone into providing books DVD's , tapes and games for evenings in. The huge range of information leaflets about the area was really helpful. The 2 bathrooms (1 ensuite) and 2 double bedrooms were a real plus. Appreciated the extras (toiletries) provided. Loved the Smeg pink fridge and double ovens. We have had experience of holiday cottages over the years, and this one is really the crème de la crème. Intend to book this again for next year.

Stayed here for a New Year break and it was fabulous. The Cowshed has everything you need for a luxury break, from the super comfortable king bed in the master bedroom to the wood burning stove in the living area , flatscreen TVs in each room and a wonderful sound system - we were truly spoiled. The welcome pack was a generous surprise with festive goodies and a bottle of cava to toast the New Year. Horsley is a small village only 10 miles from Newcastle with a good bus service. The only disappointment was that one of the two village pubs has closed, leaving only The Lion and Lamp within walking distance for eating. It has an excellent menu however and we enjoyed dinner there on two nights. The Cowshed is well placed for exploring Hadrians Wall country as well as metropolitan Newcastle & I would not hesitate to recommend it.

We stayed here as a base to explore Northumberland. The accommodation was fantastic, the decor is funky and stylish and it was spotlessly clean. We loved having the fire lit on an evening, there were loads of family games provided and the TV has Netflix, which all helped to create a truly chilled week. There's a lovely pub in the village (Lion and Lamb) and an Arts cafe which both served great food and there are some fab walks in the surrounding countryside. A superb holiday cottage.

October 2015
It was beautiful, spacious, well equipped and spotless with modern appliances and furniture, and a lovely fireplace. It is ideally located to explore both Northumberland and north Yorkshire and is only a 15min drive from central Newcastle. We cooked here during our stay and the kitchen had everything we needed. The beds had good quality linen mattresses and the bathrooms were in pristine condition. My husband and I took his parents there and my mother in law couldn't stop raving about the place! It really was a pleasure to stay here and will definitely recommend to anyone. Could not have had a better experience.

Myself and 3 other girls stayed at this beautiful cottage for a month as we were training to be cabin crew at the aviation academy, Newcastle. I can't phrase this place enough after long days at the academy it was a pleasure to come back and relax here, with it's calming aura it really felt like home, from the stunning decor to the heated flooring and so well equipped it ticked all the boxes. The landlady couldn't be more friendlier and helpful. Myself and the girls really enjoyed staying at the cowshed cottage and can't wait to return.
