The cottage itself was really quite nice in appearance and cleanliness.. What really let it down was the fact the most important things involving sleeping and personal hygiene were a complete failure.
The double bed was a poor quality basic bed which had been easily broken by previous guests a year ago.
It was mended using pieces of wood and screws making it look unprofessional in quality. Also there was the likelihood it could be easily broken again with rough activity.
The mattress was made of a poor quality memory foam which made it impossible to either get a good nights sleep or to turn over without the bed squeaking and creaking or myself or my wife disturbing each other as the bed sagged rather badly in the middle under our combined weight of 31 stone.
Furthermore, being elderly, I am 72 and my wife will soon be 70, we were unable to bath, shower and fulfil basic levels of cleanliness only with extreme difficulty. On the one occasion I tried to have a bath, my wife took about half an hour to get me out. My legs could not allow me to stand up as my feet could not get a grip on the wet and slippery plastic base of the bath, there were no handles to hold on to support my weight and I kept on slipping down. Neither of us wanted to repeat this terrifying experience!
The hand held shower mixer was useless as the hot water which had very little pressure was quickly nullified by the overpowering pressure of the cold water, making it impossible to mix the two as soon as the unit was raised above the level of the bottom of the hot water tank.
All the windows apart from the front bedroom we were unable to open, until unlocked by the owner.
