We have stayed in Sykes cottages several times and this house met the usual excellent standard

The location was ideal being so close to local amenities.. The cottage itself was excellent and the extras were unexpected - dishwasher tablets, tea and coffee, tinfoil etc etc. We have rented many cottages in Scotland and most provide a little, such as tea, to get the holidaymaker started, but very few provide this level. Also, Amanda was extremely helpful and friendly; we felt at home immediately.

Delightful cottage well kept and all the facilities you need.. Pretty, dog-safe garden full of Swallows and Swifts. Gatehouse is a great wee village with nice places to walk, eat and drink and a great jumping off point for local beaches etc. Would definitely book again.

Really nice house with everything we needed for a week's stay.. Nice location, a couple of mins walk to the shops, pubs etc. No hassle parking right outside the house every day. Gatehouse of Fleet excellent location for walks and visiting nearby towns. We'll certainly be visiting the town again.

We have visited Gatehouse of Fleet on many previous holidays and this is one of the best cottages we have stayed in.. As we are both getting on in years we don't do as much touring as we once did, so we just enjoyed the comfortable cottage and the lovely garden, and have already booked our next visit.

Our family had a lovely time staying at this cottage which we thought was beautiful. For a family it was very well equipped, with high chair, cot, and stairgate, which saved us taking a lot of extra luggage. My oldest daughter loved the supply of games and the pretty garden was perfect for them both to run around in. We had a very comfortable stay the cottage had everything we needed, and we could park just outside which was very convenient. Gatehouse is a really nice town, with lots of places to eat, and there is lots to do in the surrounding area. My eldest daughter enjoyed the workshop at the local Chocolate Factory and the beach only 10 miuntes away was a big hit. We would definitely stay here again as there is lots more we still want to see.

We had a fantastic time staying at Dermot Cottage.. It was ideally located. Not far from all the facilities in the village on foot; and also great for exploring the local area by car. The cottage was exceptionally comfortable, clean and well appointed. Although we did eat out in the village, it was great that we were able to cook proper 'home-cooked' meals using the equipment provided. The children loved 'Ginger' the rocking horse and enjoyed watching the odd DVD from the well stocked library. We all had a lovely week's holiday and look forward to returning in the future.

Lovely cottage.. No problem parking out front of the cottage. Very comfortable and well presented. Lots of exploring to be done near by. Stayed over Christmas and the decorations were all taken care of. Nice welcome package too. Would definitely recommend, thanks.

Excellent and well appointed cottage, centrally based so lots of excellent trips out.. Loved the log burning stove and we had to keep buying more wood as we got through so much of it. Double bedroom was very comfortable and felt like you were sleeping in cottonwool. The garden was lovely and we actually collected enough blackberries to make a fruit crumble for our tea ! Have already recommended Sykes to two friends and one is already looking at a cottage in the Isle of Skye for next year. We hope to book another cottage next year.

Outstanding accommodation beautifully clean, spacious, and perfectly situated for us to explore the gorgeous Dumfries and Galloway area.. We are definitely going back. Our dog Hermann loved the garden as did we, so it’s a big woof from him and a highly recommended from us.

The house was so much bigger than we thought it would be and on entering it had a home from home feeling.. It was so easy to live in, easy to keep clean with the tiled floors and very nicely carpeted stairs and bedrooms. The bedrooms were very nice, especially the master bedroom. There was a bit of a problem with the fancy basin tap in the bathroom which was difficult to regulate and either trickled or spurted over the top of the basin. As we did not have the best weather it was good to have the wood burner but there was only enough wood for the first evening and we were unable to get more logs locally. It meant we needed to use the central heating which we would have preferred not to do. Perhaps from the owners point of view it might be more economical to leave a plentiful supply of wood. We enjoyed our stay very much and would certainly revisit.

Gorgeous cottage in great location.. Lots of little extra touches by the owners to ensure that we needed for nothing. Top quality bed linen, beds and towels. Lovely little kitchen, with everything you could need, including a slow cooker. Great shower, lots of hot water. Stayed here in October and have already rebooked for November.

Dermot Cottage was beautiful, furnished to a high standard yet very homely, everything you needed to self cater, good eating at the local pubs well within walking distance.. The Cottage had everything thought of.... things for very young minds, DVD's for the family, books to while away the time, warm and cosy with the fire if you wanted, spacious for five people, and the garden was a haven for the wildlife , could sit and watch all day from within the sun room. The quality of the furniture and bedding was luxurious, beds and quilts were out of this world, so easy to get that good nights sleep. As for the shower, well, all I can say is raining heaven, you will struggle to get the time in the bathroom as you just don't want to get out!! Nothing had been too much trouble, everything thought of, Wi-Fi how to access, a fantastic instruction book of everything regarding the cottage even down to what buttons for the remote control for the TV to step by step to lighting the wood stove, nothing missed..... So accommodation top rate, as for the area, stunning! so many places to visit, the beaches are fantastic so get those picnics prepared.... We were a family of mixed age range 50's to 13 and all would go back again, we had the perfect holiday, Thank you Dermot Cottage.

A lovely cottage - good location and great base for exploring the area.. It might be worth noting that the Ship Inn is no longer open as a pub / restaurant as it is now a guest house - open to residents only. Otherwise a perfect stay!

A really lovely cottage, spacious and clean with lovely decoration throughout the house, a good selection of board games in case of bad weather (we didn't have any but still managed a few games of scrabble). We really felt at home here and looked forward to coming back to the house after a day's adventures! The garden is fab too, a really good size, perfect for couples, friends and families with smaller children. We found the location great for exploring this part of Scotland, lots of lovely walks nearby, a stunning beach only ten minutes away and some really good places to eat in the village. We'll definitely be back and we'll definitely be using Dermot Cottage again.
