Booked Berts Cottage for my husband's 60th birthday and have to say it certainly didn't disappoint. Accommodation is absolute perfection and the location was the icing on the cake. Would not hesitate to recommend this 'little gem" and we hope to rebook here in the future. Both fittings and furnishings, as well as the building have been done to the highest of  standards and offer for a truly amazing and luxurious stay. Perfect location for the Yorkshire Dales , The Pennines and The Lake District and we even managed to cram in a visit over the boarder for Gretna Green,  then on to pay our respects at Lockerbie and even into Edinburgh. Thank you Sykes Cottages for a memorable holiday and an amazing place to stay. Tina & Brian Carter, SHROPSHIRE

Excellent cottage in excellent location.. We were blessed with good weather so were out and about every day. The cottage had some quirky artefacts which added to the interest and enjoyment. It's a pity there wasn't a picture window to enjoy the view from inside the cottage as on a cold, damp day you wouldn't benefit from the lovely patio and the rooms are rather dark. Very trendy, good quality kitchen equipment, though a teapot would have been appreciated. Beautiful surrounding countryside but not too far from amenities at Appleby and Kirkby Stephen. Ideal location for the Lakes and the Dales.

Wonderful cottage with a homely feel. Very clean and equiped to a high standard. You'll want for nothing. The cottage is in a peaceful location and has beautiful surroundings. Yet it's not very far from the Lake District, Noth Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales. Would certainly recommend.

Wonderful cottage, in fab location.. Great walking, waterfalls and hills. Peace quiet and gorgeous views, everything you could want inside and outside of the cottage, warm fluffy blankets for sunset watching with a glass in hand. Toasty fire, and snuggly sofas, full of lovely quirky things, felt like home. We WILL be back. Thank you

House was beautiful, felt like a home with lovely throws pictures ornaments etc The views were fantastic, nice walks in the countryside on your doorstep.. Appleby is a lovely small town about 1015 mins away for all your shopping. We will return next year, give it a try.

Very clean and superbly furnished.. We are already looking at next dates to book. Nicely located for a variety of days out and so peaceful and quiet at the end of the day.

We had a wonderful week, helped by the weather! The cottage worked well for 4 adults although storage in the second bedroom is limited. Unfortunately the file of details was not at all obvious and we only found it (under the coffee table) on the penultimate day so at first we struggled a bit to find lights and with the cooker etc. The location was brilliant, we did Durham,York, Hadrian’s Wall ,The Lakes and the Appleby to Ribblehead section of the Settle to Carlisle railway all in the week.

Bert's Cottage is a gem among the jewels of the local countryside.. The property is furnished to a very high standard but still feels homely. Locally sourced goods for comfort and pleasing on the eye mix with well known brand names in the kitchen but the whole property has a warm and cosy feel to it; it was hard to pack up and go home. Situated where it is, Bert's Cottage gives you access to a range of attractive places such as Appleby, Orton, Sedbergh and Penrith, as well as the miles of stunning countryside just waiting to be explored. Delicious food is to be found almost everywhere and the friendliness of the locals adds to the pleasure of visiting. I am already looking at our diary to see where we can squeeze another visit in!

The cottage was even better than we had expected, it was very comfortable and cosy, and very well equipped and with some very nice touches.. The location gave us exactly what we wanted - peace and quiet! We visited places we had not previously visited, including Appleby and Penrith, and we particularly enjoyed visiting Rutter Force waterfall, which we walked to from the cottage! Would definitely recommend Sykes Cottages and, in particular, Bert's Cottage.

Berts Cottage is an excellent choice.. The location is wonderful - easy to reach places of interest and walks straight from the door. The quality of the furnishings and the fittings is really excellent - it felt like a real home, not a temporary holiday home fitted out with cheap IKEA furniture. Very highly recommended.
