Visitors can also enjoy excellent bird watching in the area.

3rd visit to Barnbrook, excellent cottage in fantastic location.. Just ideal.
Mrs Rowell
September 2020
The cottage was very clean, comfortable and ideally situated for where we wanted to be.. Situated in a lovely village. The owners gave us detailed and helpful information and directions.

We often struggle to find suitable reasonably priced accommodation for a family of 5 but this exceeded expectations.. Fantastic location with Bolton Castle & Aysgarth Falls within an easy walk from the back door & Hardraw waterfall & Hawes a short drive away. Plenty of space, great sized rooms and extremely well equipment with everything you could possible need from bottle openers to clothes pegs, potato masher to WiFi (I even managed to Iron a couple of shirts !!) Beds very comfy, with linen, towels and tea towels all supplied, premises very clean, parking directly outside. Village very cute, with the Wheatsheaf pub over the road very welcoming & family friendly for food & drinks. Aysgarth Falls Hotel also very nice for an evening meal. Would recommend a supermarket delivery or plan food accordingly as no shops in the village, however on arrival we we welcomed with milk in the fridge and Yorkshire Tea bags which was much needed after our journey to Carperby. Communication from Jane excellent with welcome details before arrival and contactable at any time if needed. Perfect for our week and would happily return.

Cottage was much more spacious than the pictures made it look! Excellent location for the walking we wanted to do.

March 2020
We would be happy rebook this cottage at some future date.. The interior had everything we needed and gave no surprises. The location was excellent for walking, both directly from the cottage and after short car rides. We happened to be staying in the first dry week after an extremely wet winter but still managed with a little ingenuity to find good walks that avoided (mostly) the worst of the flooded fields using mainly the high-level bridle paths and green lanes.

We really enjoyed staying at Barnbrook.. It was warm, comfortable and in a beautiful place close to Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton. The cottage had everything we needed.

We were delighted with our choice of cottage and enjoyed a memorable weeks holiday.. The location is breath-taking and the cottage was very clean and equipped with everything required. With The Wheatsheaf pub nearby providing excellent food and lovely walks from the door the cottage is ideally situated for visitors of all ages. Would love to return soon.

Brilliant cottage, everything you could ask for.. Ideally situated , lovely pub just up the road. ( the pictures on website do not do the cottage justice - the kitchen has obviously been updated and new furniture in lounge )

October 2018
Barnbrook is a lovley cosy, comfortable cottage that made us feel welcome and at home as soon as we arrived.. The property is well equipped and the rooms are nice and spacious for a family of four. The location is also excellent and we were able to walk to nearby attractions (Bolton Castle and Asygarth Falls) directly from the cottage. A great holiday with lovely memories for us. Thank you!

Peaceful location, excellent weather, plenty of places to visit.. Couldn't fault the cottage (Barnbrook) Excellent holiday with family.
Mr Wilkinson
May 2018
The House was relatively clean including bedrooms and kitchen.. However, there are several spiders webs around including behind the fridge, which isn't good. Our biggest complaint was the back garden area which hasn't been touched with a brush for months. the table was turning rusty and ,to be honest we took one look at the back garden, closed the door and didn't return. Sorry to complain like this, but that's the way it was.We won't be returning until we are assured things have been put right.Double bed needs a new mattress Margery and Allan Wilkinson ***Owner Response*** We are sorry that you weren't entirely happy with your stay at Barnbrook, which is unusual. We take our guests feedback very seriously, as can be seen from our other reviews. Our guests tend to love our cottage as much as we do. Thank you once again.
Mr Dakin

This was our sixth stay at Barnbrook and we will be coming back again.. It is ideally situated and perfect for a walking holiday in Wensleydale. All in all it has got to be one of the best properties Sykes has to offer.

January 2018
We stayed at Barnbrook over the Christmas week. The cottage surpassed our already high expectations; clean, spacious and with beautiful views from the bedrooms. Our children absolutely loved the cottage and were kept entertained with games, books and wifi. They both managed the walk down to Aysgarth Falls (both under 5). Absolutely worth the money for a more reasonably priced cottage. Would have been a bonus if there was a Christmas tree up over the festive period but this is only a suggestion for a 'cherry on the top' of an excellent stay.

A nice, warm, clean, peaceful, well equipped cottage located in excellent walking country - there were easy walks to waterfalls and rocky places which the children enjoyed too. We got very muddy and were glad of the washing machine and dryer.

We have holidayed in Yorkshire for over 40 years and this was the best cottage we have had. We enjoyed the local walks; the property was close to places we wanted to visit and near to amenities. There was plenty of room for parking at cottage. We found Dent to be a charming place with cobbled streets and loads of history Beautiful drive and friendly people.

Barnbrook truly is the perfect cosy cottage to escape to! It's in a fantastic location as a base to explore the Dale's and the cottage itself is fantastic! It accommodated myself, my husband and my 2 children with ample space! The kitchen is huge and has everything you need, the lounge is comfy, cosy and warm. The bedrooms are also fantastic, with loads of storage and space! Would highly recommend a stay at Barnbrook and we will definitely be returning!
Mrs Ayres
January 2016
We enjoyed our stay at Barnbrook. The cottage was cosy and warm when we arrived. The kitchen/dining area was huge! It was useful to have a separate toilet downstairs. The cottage was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. It was nice to have books and games provided and there was lots of information about things to do and walking routes. The surrounding area is lovely and we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the place. We can recommend the Wheatsheaf Hotel for a meal. We thought the price was reasonable for staying over New Year.

A most relaxing base to explore on foot the local area.
Mrs Daughton
June 2015
We stayed for two weeks in this lovely cottage, and found it to be beautifuly clean, very spacious and welcoming, and had absolutely everything one could possibly want or need for a very comfortable stay.. Having said that, the only drawback (for me personally) was the memory foam mattress on the double bed, which unfortunately holds the body heat to the extreme, making for a very uncomfortable nights' sleep, so mostly had to sleep in the single bed. The other point which kind of annoyed me was that upon enquiring from the caretaker, who conveniently lives next door, if she'd be coming in to change the bedding for the 2nd week, I was told where to find the clean linen and that I had to do it myself. We stay for 2 weeks every year in various Dales cottages, and is the first time that I've encountered this...When you consider that payment for the 2nd weeks' stay in the cottage is EXACTLY the same as for the 1st, I'd have thought, and naturaly assumed, that the cleaning service for the 2nd week would be a 'given'. Apart from those couple of things, we had a lovely holiday staying in this particular cottage. The location is perfect, with lots of walks from the door to be had, including a lovely varied walk to Bolton Castle, plus the convenience of The Wheatsheaf pub, serving vey nice meals, literally just over the road. We'd be more than happy to consider staying again, if a 2nd choice was needed, as it's certainly a gem of a cottage, apart from those two niggles...however, they are personal to us and may not concern anyone else, so with this in mind, we can highly recommend Barnbrook Cottage as an ideal base from which to have a very enjoyable holiday.
Mrs O'donnell

The cottage setting was lovely. It was pretty to look at and homely and comfortable inside. I think we had everything we needed. In fact we feel it's a cottage we would like to revisit next year unless we decide to explore another area with another of your cottages. Booking and payment were simple and everything ran really smoothly.

Barnbrook was in a lovely part of the country. The only problem we had with the house was trying to dispose of our rubbish. Otherwise all was very successful. Lots of things to do for adults as well as children. The castle was a great success, as was the cheese!

The property was good for children and adults alike. We didn't need to use the car to go on lots of lovely long walks to Castle Bolton and Aysgarth falls. July 2010
We were expecting a quiet retreat but it was quite noisy. Impossible to relax with windows open in the extreme heat of the evening as next door neighbours were relaxing outside the window and children running on the gravel roadway, from front to back of house playing. A car was then parked in the main drive with it's radio on, which we felt was inconsiderate. The parking was very tight and quite difficult with the outside layout shared, manoevering to exit caused a chip on car from the rough wall, we constantly felt we may be trapped in our space by the number of vehicles sharing the parking spaces. The decor was drab and depressing and we felt it could all do with updating. There was no full-length mirror. However, we felt the kitchen area was spacious and light and we spent most of our week in this room.

The brochure description was good and the price fair. We always look for cottages with parking and that do not take pets as we have had problems years ago. The cottage was in the a small village with a good pub/restaurant but unfortunately no shop, knowing this from the information provided prior to travel we went prepared. The very pleasant sounding owner provided us with sufficent information on the locality and access to the property. The cottage was beyond our expectations and provided nearly enough amenities that we could easily had lived there for a lengthy period of time. The large kitchen diner was just what we were after. We loved the location, also the fact that we did not necessarily have to take the car out to find good walks and we did a few from the house itself. We took a few drives also and just loved everything the places, and the people. When we were doing our Leyburn Shawl walk we had come off the short stretch of main road we had to use when going down a lane which would eventually take us to the Hall and Wensley village a farmer and his wife stopped their vehicle and had a chat to us. How good is that? The peace and tranquility was lovely and as you have asked for a downside -there was no view from the living area and only one small window in the lounge, but hey I've only mentioned that because you asked! We will certainly return.

We immediately felt comfortable and relaxed in this very cosy cottage. Barnbrook is a home away from home. We loved every minute of it, even when we were stuck inside due to rain and fog, which was mostly down to the well stocked cottage of books, games, videos (even a blank video for die hard tv fans not wanting to miss their favorite show). It is located in a wonderful position to see many of the main sites of the dales and has a very friendly local 3 minutes down the road. Highly recommend this proprty to anyone and would love to go back for longer.
