1 Brow Cottages is an idyllic, semi-detached stone cottage, set in the tiny hamlet of Green End near Goathland in the North York Moors National Park and can sleep four people in one double bedroom and one twin room. There is a ground floor family bathroom. The rest of this character property consists of a kitchen, dining room with woodburning stove and sitting room with open fire. To the outside of the property there is off road parking for two cars and a lawned garden with furniture. Surrounded by spectacular scenery and yet close to Whitby and the coast, 1 Brow Cottages is ideal for a romantic retreat or family break.

Area
The village of Goathland is set on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. It has been popularised by the television programme Heartbeat and at the bottom of the village lies the station for the famous North York Moors Steam Railway.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

The cottage is in a lovely rural and remote location, surrounded by the wilds of The North Yorkshire Moors. The cottage looks out over the valley. You can hear the steam train off in the distance and see the smoke rising through the trees below on occasion when out walking. There are walks literally outside the door. The back garden is massive and enclosed so it was perfect for our two Labrador Retrievers: Stan & Ollie. The cottage is excellent. Equipped to a high standard with everything you need. The owner told us the cottage had undergone a major refresh and you could tell. The new bed was really comfy. He could not have been more helpful and made us feel at home. The area is very peaceful with a very unique pub down the bottom of the hill, well worth the walk. While the cottage is remote, Whitby and Pickering are only a short drive and there are lots of other attractions within a half an hour drive: Robin Hoods Bay, Castle Howard, Helmsley and Flamingo Land. We spent a lovely week - peaceful and relaxing - at Brow Cottage and wish we could have stayed longer!

Lovely remote cottage with stunning views and walks on the doorstep.. Only a 15 minute drive to shops/petrol station etc an 20 minutes from beautiful Whitby or Sandsend perfect for the dogs. Lovely big garden to play with dogs and ball, away from the meandering sheep on the Moors. Open fire and log burner add to the feel of a real cosy getaway from it all.

Brow cottage is the perfect get away from it all.. Location brilliant for walking, views, base for exploring further afield. So cosy and comfortable and yet felt bigger than the photos suggest. Even the dogs loved it. We'll be rebooking for next year!!

We had a very relaxing break in this cottage.. The setting is stunning - beautiful views from the windows, and lovely walks straight outside the door. Wonderfully remote, but lovely Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay only 10 miles away. The cottage is beautifully furnished, with everything we needed. Lovely open fires and great enclosed garden for our dog.

We had a three night stay from 7-10 December and we love this cottage.. It is in a beautiful and remote location with stunning views all around. The cottage itself is lovely and cosy with an excellent heating system and you can also make it even more so by buying some firewood for the open fireplace. It's a nice mix of old and new with a lot of original features and some modernisation with the new looking kitchen etc. It even has good Wi-Fi! We walked all around the Beck Hole and Darnholme area one afternoon and took a million pictures because it's so beautiful around there. It only takes around 10 minutes to drive to Whitby too. The landlord is a great guy and keeps in touch to make sure you have all the travel and other details you need, and to ask if you arrived there and home safely. Can't recommend the place highly enough! We'll be back soon, Dave and Carla.

We were keep informed about what to expect from our stay, prior to going.. There are little things that can make improvements, like sorting out the draughts from the "old" sash windows. That said, I lived in a student flat, where the heating couldn't keep up with loss of heat through the windows. This was nothing like that. The easy to use heating controls and log fires kept up very warm - too warm at times. It was a lovely retreat, quiet, but where we could do nothing, but watch the world go by. We would go again, no doubt.

Wish I had noticed that the only toilet was downstairs.. It can be a bit of a problem if you have to get up in the night. Stairs were very steep but had been warned about that. Apart from those two minor problems the cottage was wonderful. If anyone is obsessed with tv they might find the lack of channels available a bit disconcerting (usually only BBC channels). Fortunately we don't go on holiday to watch tv.

Fantastic! what a stunning cottage and a very helpful owner. Brow Cottage is in an incredibly beautiful rural location with plenty of walks and beautiful scenery. The cottage is well equipped and very cozy and oozes history. Some of the beams are from the early 1800's. As musicians we stayed her for the Whitby Folk Festival; Whitby is a short drive and Brow Cottage is a perfect base for us and for exploring. The owner is friendly and helpful. We would defiantly come back again and recommend.

A perfect location, with the moors on the doorstep and the coast 15 minutes away.. Superb walks to Grosmont and Goatland, steam trains and sheep. A really interesting cottage with friendly and helpful owner and neighbours.

1 Brow Cottages is a quirky stone built cottage in a remote location of the Yorkshire Moors.. It has a contemporary feel which compliments the original old features such as stone floors and beamed ceilings. It is generally very well equipped with most of the things you would need for your holiday. We were fortunate enough to have lovely weather so spent most of our time outside (useful because the TVs signal is very erratic and the channels available very limited). There are some very steep hills in the immediate area which really test your calf muscles but are worth the effort for the beautiful walks right on your doorstep. Whitby and Scarborough both have dog friendly beaches and places such as Robin Hoods bay and Runswick bay are well worth a visit. The owner, Derek, is very approachable and responsive via email and will do his best to resolve any issues should the need arise. The cottage is very dog friendly as our spaniel, Rusty, can attest to! He loved the secure, large lawned garden as did we and most evenings we sat out watching the woodpeckers, swallows, curlews etc. Dog owners should be aware that due to the number of free roaming sheep/livestock in the area there are also a lot of ticks and tshould ensure pets are treated before arrival.

This place is over 200 years old but has been renovated nicely and retains the old, quirky character of the place. It's an unusually, cozy house with views over the Esk Valley like non other. Waking up and looking out at the moors was the best thing ever. Apparently it was the old blacksmiths some years ago (According to the owner; who was incredibly helpful and thoughtful. We had a couple of minor issues and he went out of his way to help and resolved things quickly). It was cold and wild the first couple of days, but the last few the sun came out and we even managed a cup of tea in the garden - our two terriers loved the garden too! The garden is enclosed so it was great. We loved the history of this place and will definitely come back in a heartbeat! Talking of heartbeat: Goathland is where it was filmed and I think the house is in one of the episodes - I know have to watch them again.

The owner of the cottage was very helpful and supportive when he heard we may get snowed in.. He went above expectations and made arrangements so that we could stay at Brow Cottage unroll it was safe to travel home. Fortunately we did manage to get home on our last day.

This is an amazing place in an absolutely amazing location. The cottage is off the beaten track and a great place to base yourself for day trips and walks. If the weather is bad, the cottage is cosy, charming and wonderfully renovated. Get the fires going on an evening! Huge garden but to be honest the location makes it feel like the whole of the North Yorkshire Moors are yours!

We had the best time at Brow Cottage with our dog, Wolfie. The cottage is perfectly placed on the Moors with stunning views over the valley. A couple of minutes from the pub at the bottom of the hill by the brook and far enough from everything to enjoy the solitude. I sat at the writing desk and wrote. I read in the rocking chair and hung out in the huge garden. There is pretty much everything you need here - very comfortable. Cozy and interesting too. It's a great place to base yourself for trips to the seaside for fish & chips and vampire walks! We love Brow Cottage. The owner was very helpful too when we had some questions about the place. We'll be back as soon as we can. Thanks!

The North Yorkshire Moors are spectacular and Brow Cottage is in the heart of them. The house is so peaceful and cozy. The facilities are excellent and comfortable - the decor is interesting and quirky with a lot of unique objects and paintings. It's the perfect place to get away from it all yet still be only a drive from Whitby and Robin Hood Bay. Dogs welcome and the garden is enclosed so perfect to let them out! We will be back as soon as we can. The host was so helpful too. A Gem!

This is an amazing place in an incredible location.. The cottage is a little difficult to find but that's a good thing! It's off the beaten track and a great place to base yourself for day tripping around the area or walking if that's your thing. If the weather isn't great, the cottage is cosy enough to kick about in with a book and we were disappointed to not need to use the fires on evenings! Our two year old loved the sheep, our dog did too...

It was raining out and we had the fires going. It doesn’t get any cozier than that. The cottage was an old blacksmith forge but it has been beautifully renovated with a mix of olde worldy and modern. Comfortable and quirky - the owner made it very unique with lots of personal touches - guitars and modern paintings, but the 200 year old original beams are a lovely, traditional contrast. It is a perfect get away for walking or the coast. Whitby, Staithes are not far. Amazing place. The signal for the TV is a bit patchy but to be honest it’s the kind of place you just want to sit back and read or look out at the beautiful Esk Valley. Like going back in time. Wonderful!

This cottage is very remote - just how I like it - and charmingly, sensitively renovated.. The location is stunningly beautiful, in the middle of the moors but within a short drive of a larger town. The accommodation is quirky, comfortable and welcoming. Bedrooms are spacious and airy, and the listed building status explains the unusual layout of the downstairs. Pleasant and large garden at the rear but to be honest with the location of this cottage, it feels like the whole of the North Yorkshire Moors is your garden.

This was our third visit to Brow Cottage and will definitively be back . It's a gem tucked away on the edge of the moors. Lovely views over the valley towards Beck hole and Goathland. At night the sky is equally as impressive. The cottage is cozy with both log burner and open fire. It'd tastefully furnished in a country but contemporary style. The owner has displayed his own art work giving the cottage a homely feel. The kitchen it also well equiped. The garden is walled, which is ideal if visiting with a dog, as we were. Although the cottage has a remote feel , Beck hole and Goathland are within walking distance, as is the North Yorkshire Railway. Whitby is 15 minutes drive away, Sleights is nearer and has a range of shops, including a great antiques /salvage emporium. The pub in Beck Hole is unique and welcoming. There are great walks from both the cottage and a short drive away, with options of coast, moors, waterfalls and more. We felt really spoilt.

Such a lovely traditional cottage in a really peaceful spot.. We wouldn't hesitate to return!
