November 2016
My partner & I stayed at Beachcombers Cottage for a week to celebrate my 50th birthday. Through out my childhood we holidayed at Whitsands & I remembered the beautiful clean, deserted beaches & crystal clear waters. What a relief to find that little has changed over the years, the beaches are still clean & empty & the place is every bit as wild & beautiful as I remembered. Beachcombers Cottage is at the very bottom of the cliff & is accessed via a very steep & uneven path, a torch is a must in the dark. Thankfully we were were met at the top by the owner Jim who winched our luggage down for us. The cottage is set right on the beach & was once a large stone cafe, it has since been converted into cottages (the owners accommodation plus 2 rental cottages). On our arrival there was a birthday card, chocolates & flowers for me which was a lovely touch. The cottage is tastefully decorated in a nautical theme & despite being mid November was cozy & warm. The kitchen is well equipped with essentials like tea, coffee, milk etc provided for you. The light & airy bedroom continues the nautical theme & the bed is extremely comfortable, There's a good size bathroom with a large shower, heated towel rail & underfloor heating & the lounge is also a good size with a corner sofa, electric fire & the usual mod cons.
There are numerous places near by to eat out, the Halfway House Inn at Millbrook does particularly good food.
I would happily recommend Beachcombers Cottage; great location, welcoming hosts, clean & well maintained & good value for money.
