West Wing Cottage Acomb, Northumberland

Really nice holiday home, felt very much at home during our week.. Loved the extra touches, including a card and prosecco as it was our anniversary! Linda and Adrian were very helpful.and responded really quickly to all.our text requests before and during the holiday. Great location for visiting the local area including Hadrian's Wall and other English Heritage properties, Hexham, Corbridge and Kielder Water.

A perfect romantic getaway.. Especially dog friendly. Lovely hosts who live next door provided a welcome basket. They gave us wedding anniversary gifts. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend and hope to return in the future.

The owners were delightful.. Helpful and friendly. Enjoyd our stay immensely. Close to amenities with walks for our dogs nearby.

We stayed at West Wing Cottage for three nights at the end of December 2019. The cottage is beautifully decorated and felt like a home away from home - we especially loved the log burner which was very cosy! Downstairs there is an open plan kitchen and living room with good facilities. There is no washing machine but you can request laundry services for a small extra charge. We liked the selection of games and DVDs in the living room to pass the time on the evenings. The bathroom was very nice and had a good supply of hot water as well as a complementary bath bomb! The whole cottage was spotlessly clean. There is off road parking outside the cottage and lovely views towards Hexham. We took our dog and he was made very welcome with a bag of treats waiting for his arrival! There was a fantastic welcome hamper for us too as well as some milk in the fridge so we could have a cup of tea/coffee. There are lots of good places to go walking nearby including Kielder Forest and Hadrian’s Wall. The National trust properties of Cragside and Wallington are close by and definitely worth a visit. We wanted to visit Hexham old gaol as well but it was unfortunately closed for winter - maybe next time!

Comfortable historic cottage in a superb rural setting.. Great and interesting walks from front door. Within reasonable proximity of several beautiful historic houses and points of natural interest.

The cottage was lovely and even our dog was made really welcome.. There were lots of lovely little welcome gifts which we didn't expect but just made us feel so welcome and our hosts couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Thank you so much for making our stay in Northumberland so enjoyable.

A lovely quaint cottage, immaculately clean and very cosy.. Just the right distance from Hexham and Corbridge to make it feel totally quiet and relaxing while close enough to enjoy the shops and eating places of the towns. The cottage and local amenities were very dog friendly. I would certainly recommend West Wing Cottage.

It's a central cottage to visit the Hadrian Wall and in advance that we intended to do.. The quiet countryside was important too.

It was a lovely comfortable cottage in peaceful surroundings.. The perfect bas for exploring the beautiful Northumberland countryside.

Beautiful, cosy cottage.. Very well equiped. Very welcoming hosts who were very helpful and made the holiday extra special. A real gem of a place.

Our hosts couldn't do enough to make us welcome and for our stay to be enjoyable and memorable with thoughtful touches of flowers and welcome gifts and very prompt response to our queries.. The house is peaceful in lovely countryside with views over the valley. It is characterful with good sized comfortable bedroom, bathroom and living kitchen. Our week was perfect for us and our two dogs.

A very comfortable cottage in a good location..

The cottage was perfectly situated for exploring Hadrian Wall’s or going for walks in the beautiful countryside around.. The small towns of Hexham and Corbridge are nearby and worth visiting. Contact with the owners was easy and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. The cottage itself is cosy, very well equipped, with a wonderfully comfy bed, good sized bathroom and lovely kitchen / dining room.

No ,but West Wing Cottage is superb

What a wonderful property! Everything we hoped for, and more. Idyllic location, and tastefully furnished throughout - we felt ‘at home’ instantly. The cottage makes an ideal base for exploring historic Northumberland and the national park, a region with so much to offer. Hexham is 10 minutes drive, while Kielder/Bamburgh are around an hour away. Our hosts were very thoughtful and accommodating, and it was clear to see the pride they have for their business. Highly recommended.

The cottage itself was lovely and in a quaint village location only minutes away from Hexham. The accommodations were nice with a lot of character, however we had many problems with the cottage and we were very put off by the owner. Firstly, the view from the bedroom unfortunately looks out at a large and ugly factory and smoke stack. There were also electrical issues with the let, including an outlet in the bedroom not working, the fridge was not on or plugged in when we arrived, and I was electrically shocked each time I touched an electronic device on or around the television set. There was little to sometimes no hot water for the shower on most of the days we spent in the cottage, and I had to remove several large spiders from the bathroom. In the kitchen, it was well stocked with plenty of cookware and dishes, however there was also cracked/broken glassware. All of these would have been acceptable shortcomings for holiday let location in a rural village, had it not been for the owner. She attempted to blame us for all of these problems and more that were pre-existing, and attempted to force us to pay for them. She claimed we left the place in disarray (which was not the case whatsoever) and wanted us to pay for "extra cleaning" such as having to wash the bed sheets and such things that I would hope were standard cleaning practices. We were also pestered to get out of cottage only minutes after the check out time had passed - while I was in the middle of getting our bags out the door. We even had a call from Skyes Cottages customer service department after we left because the owner had called them and claimed we checked out much later than when we actually did - looking for more money from us. We had left the place as clean as tidy as possible as we were quite rudely rushed out - all dishes clean, kitchen surfaces wiped down, sofa, blankets, bed all put together and made to look neat, etc., and yet the owner still made it a point to message us to say we left the place in shambles - again wanting me to pay more. We also overheard the owners arguing loudly through the shared wall in the evening and it made our stay quite uncomfortable. As much as we enjoyed the area and our stay in the north, I would not recommend this holiday cottage whatsoever.

Lovely cosy cottage Very comfortably furnished, nice and warm in a cold week in December.. Nothing too much trouble for our hosts, even offering to look after out two dogs while we attended a family wedding. Fabulous welcome pack with treats for the dogs. We highly recommend West Wing Cottage. Pretty rural position - peace and quiet.

A beautiful cosy cottage.. lovely quiet location but close to all the tourist areas and shops you would need. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and the treats for us and the dog were a very pleasant surprise. Would recommend the cottage and the area if you want a quiet and peaceful break ideal for dogs and walkers alike.

This cottage was much better than we thought.. You felt so relaxed that you felt it was home to home and welcome pack fantastic. Our dogs were not stressed out and enjoyed the toys that were their I would definitely recommend

We had a lovely stay in this cottage.. No issues at all. The garden area was safe and all enclosed meaning it was safe for our two dogs. Hosts friendly and helpful thank you

The West Wing is lovely.. It is in a great location - easy access to Hexham and Corbridge and if you want Newcastle and beaches. it is set in lovely countryside and all the descriptions are accurate

We had a lovely holiday in West Wing Cottage very comfortable and so many little extras that were left for us in the cottage lovingly decorated , the welcome pack was very much appreciated, Linda and Adrian were very friendly and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the cottage, plenty of historic and beautiful places to explore, thank you again..

A welcoming cottage.. It was clean and well kept. The stairs are steep and the bathroom upstairs. A well situated cottage for visiting Hadrian’s Wall sites.

Sweetpea cottage Biggar was wonderful.. Plenty of room for our Cocker Spanial to run around in a large secluded garden.Nice to have a log fireVery pleased. The Bothy Alston was the best accommodation we have stayed in with Sykes cottages.The Jacuzzi was a real bonus.Snowed in for three days but made no difference.Very pleased. West Wing Cottage Hexham.Well decorated to our taste.Hamper was a bonus and a very comfortable bed.Very pleased.

That was our third visit to this property, very enjoyable, lovely place, good break which was just what we needed..

Lovely rural cottage but close to all amenities.. Well presented and equipped - my wife did not want to leave! Dog enjoyed himself as well.

We stayed here in September 2016 with our two dogs - yes this place is dog friendly :) we arrived and there was a lovely welcome pack full of goodies for us and the dogs. The cottage has all the amenities that you expect with a beautiful big master bedroom overlooking the fields and hills of Northumberland with sheep / lambs in the field. The area is so quiet and the ideal place for you to get away from the hussel and bussel of your daily lives! we loved it that much, we booked again as soon as we came home for September this year!!

Lovely little rustic cottage in a great location, really handy for walking Hadrians Wall, which is what we wanted.. The hosts were lovely and left us to enjoy the peace and quiet which again, is what we wanted. Would def recommend.

We were impressed with the attention to detail that the owners put into the decor. Every room was very tastefully decorated with a wealth of small things that showed a great deal of thought to what their guests would need when arriving late and being able to relax immediately, knowing that they didn't need to find a shop or supermarket to get food or a drink. Together with chocolates, 2 bottles of wine and coal and wood for a real fire, they obviously wanted their guests to sit back and enjoy the stay. The rooms were cosy and warm and had everything you would need in a home away from Home!!

My husband booked West Wing Cottage for our wedding anniversary ( which is also Valentine's day) and I must say I was not disappointed. The accommodation is warm and inviting and the attention to detail is absolutely amazing. The owners had left a beautiful welcome pack which included wine, chocolates, snacks, milk and everything you need for a comfortable stay. The icing on the cake, without a doubt was the fabulous log burner. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Cottage was very clean and cosy.. Great to have a wood burning stove. Lots of thought went into discerning what people need when they're away from home

The decor of this cottage is outstanding as is the location.. The owners have paid attention to the little things that make such a difference when you have travelled such a long way.

Loved the long walk around Hexham after a long day and knowing that we were going back to the cottage to get warm in front of open fire. Would definitely come back to this cottage. It was one of the best holiday cottages I have ever had. Thank you.

The cottage was warm and welcoming from our arrival until our departure. It was a step back in time with all the modern equipment needed to make our stay enjoyable. Although the weather outside was stormy, we felt safe and secure in front of the glowing solid fuel fire. It was a really enjoyable experience.
