Pull on your walking boots and head off along the Offa s Dyke Path, which runs close by, or take a trail through the National Trust s Begwyns common land with many walks and viewpoints. Hire mountain bikes or canoes in the area too. Spend afternoons pottering about in Hay on Wye, 4 miles from the lodge. Browse in the many bookshops here, dine out, stop for a cup of tea and visit the famous Hay Literary Festival, which is held in the town every May and attracts a host of well known authors. Make yourselves at home in its open plan lounge/kitchen/diner, where you can throw open the French doors on warm days and bask by a crackling wood burner on chilly evenings.
