From shell duck and purple sandpipers to curlew, dunlin and grey plover, this makes the bay a haven for bird watchers. Less then five miles away is the wonderful historic town of Beaumaris which offers a 13th century castle, shops, pubs, restaurants, museums, a golf course and boat trips. Red Wharf Bay is an ideal base for a peaceful break all year round.

The cottage has a fantastic location.. It was well equipped, clean and tidy. We are a family of four - two adults, two teenagers and a dog. There was plenty of room for us to eat and relax. The owners were friendly and very helpful, without being at all intrusive. After welcoming us, they left us in peace to enjoy our break. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely consider returning in the future.

We go here every year twice a year, a stones throw from the beach, owners friendly and helpful but not intrusive, cottage clean and comfortable, dog friendly, everything and more you could want for a peaceful relaxing break or if you prefer the coastal path is on your doorstep and the beach is blue flag so perfect for swimming and fishing.

Fabulous cottage in beautiful location.. Owners very friendly and welcoming. We’ve booked again for next year as this was one of my favourite holidays. The road to the cottage from the village was steep but not a problem at all. This was my dog’s first holiday, perfect all round.

We stayed here for a long weekend end of march with our 3 month old, two year old and two dogs. The cottage is brilliant well presented and had everything you need. James the host is lovely and helpful. Location is amazing can't fault it beautiful scenery and beach on the door step. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends. Only things I would recommend are a welcome pack would have been nice given the isolated location it's usually nice to have some tea bags and milk on arrival which we have had at other cottages. There was no starter pack for the fire. Also an iron and a hairdryer would have been handy but this did not effect our stay and I can not fault the service provided or property.

My Boyfriend booked us 3 nights for my birthday (mid March). The location and views are out of this world, the beach is beautiful and the surroundings are peaceful. It was disappointing only due the cleanliness. There was lots of dust on the light shades, the oven was so dirty it smelt awful when cooking and the bathroom was just grubby. It really does just need a deep clean and it would be like a new place. I would go back again to give it another try as it could have been a one off :)

Where do we start?
Firstly both James & his wife lesley are both friendly and welcoming.
The cottage is roomy and well stocked with everything you could need (sky tv) although we didnt watch much of it. The beach is just across the road, magnificent views from the lounge. There are plenty of walks to do should you choose to, a trip to Beaumaris and Puffin island is a must, our two terriers had a fantastic time on the beach. We will be visiting again in the future (2020) as where off to Scotland next year.

The cottage is in the most idyllic spot however it is definitely not 5 star.. There were only three comfortable chairs in lounge although cottage for 4. No rugs/mats in the cottage. No fuel for the open fire. Nowhere to hang clothes or put cases in one bedroom, very small. No visitors book for comments recommendation other holiday makers. No additional bedding or blankets. No soap and very old towels.
Comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen although only 4 of everything so if dishwasher on no plates cups available for use.
Definitely not 5* I would say 3*. Definitely trading on position.

A literal stones throw from the waters edge, this cottage has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Ok, so the approach road is a little steep in places but this means that only those who need to, use it and this helps to keep it a hidden treasure. We went with two 9 year olds and they went in the water every day and also explored the rock pools. The beach is very safe and to hear the waves lapping the rocks at night was bliss. With an attentive on-site owner and views to die for, we have already booked to return next year.

The service provided by the agents and the cottage owner (who lived next door) were brillient. The cottage was very cosy and we particularly liked the open log fire and the fact that we could switch the wall heaters on if we were cold without having to put coins in (as have done before). The owner had put a vase of flowers on the table as a welcome and the lack of 'house rules' everywhere made us feel at home. The location was outstandingly beautiful with the sea practically on the doorstep. Our two 'must haves' with a holiday cottage are seaviews and open fires which this cottage had. If there was one small gripe, I felt a little more attention to cleanliness could have been given. The plastic tray on the draining board was grimy so I put it to one side and did not use. I also had to clean the cutlery drawer and some of the large knives as they were dirty. The one toilet also needed a good scrub under the lid at the back. Apart from that, everything was perfect.

Coming home to such a lovely, quiet, unspoilt area and homely cottage after exploring Anglesey and Wales every day. We were able to cook an evening meal in the cottage every evening which was easier than finding 'dog friendly' pubs or restaurants. Also great to have such a large section of the beach that allowed the dog, so near to the cottage. An excellent base for exploring with gorgeous views and amazing sunsets. The Sykes Cottage website was really easy to use and browse through and book with.
