The cottage was warm and comfortable even in the snowy weather, we really needed the peace and quiet and it fit the bill perfectly.. There was some scones and homemade jam waiting for us and it felt like home from home.

Everything about this cottage was wonderful, set in beautiful location with stunning views.. As soon as you arrive it has a very homely and relaxing feel. The cake and tea went down a treat after a 4 hour journey and we all settled in well. The bed was so comfortable and well needed after a day of exploring the peak. The little thoughtful details like having the lamps on (we arrived when dark) curtains closed, heating on a comfortable heat, the cake and tea and relaxing bubble bath to use there really set the holiday off from the beginning - so thank you very much! The ensuite bathroom is lovely and modern with a walk in shower and lovely big bath. It really was the perfect way to celebrate the husbands birthday and see in the new year. We can not wait to return to underbank hall cottage in the summer!

This was our 3rd stay at the cottage, we feel so at home there, very relaxing, absolutely love it! I wish all self catering cottages gave as much as this does, so clean and tidy with lots of little extras which make the stay exceptional. The views and setting are gorgeous and we enjoyed beautiful autumn colour this time.

Underbank Hall Cottage is an idyllic retreat from the hurly burly of everyday life.. It is spotlessly clean, well-equipped and very spacious for two people with a large living area/kitchen and a huge bedroom with en suite facilities. The cottage garden is very well-stocked and well-maintained but its main advantage is that it looks out over the owners’ huge and beautifully-presented grounds and beyond to views of the local moors; simply stunning. We also found the location to be convenient for long walks and visits to National Trust properties nearby. For those who enjoy cinema, the Penistone Paragon is a must; it’s like taking a trip back to the 1950s and is well worth a visit, if only for the interval where you queue up for ice-cream (just like in the olden days)! We strongly recommend this property and would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to Delia and David, the delightful owners whose discreet presence was reassuring but at no times intrusive.

Second visit to Underbank Hall Cottage, wont be the last, just as superb.. Fabulous views, peaceful, cosy cottage within reach of many places. Friendly helpful hosts, always on hand if there are any problems. Lovely welcome gift of homemade jam and scones.

I only put MET expectations as I expect very high and that is what I got.. The cottage was in a beautiful location and was clean, cosy and calming. The gardens were magnificent and we met "the gardener" who turned out to be the owner. We spent a long time with him wandering around discussing the plants and flowers. The chickens were amazing with feathered crowns. The home-made scones were a delight and a welcome sight on arrival. We will be booking again, in a different season to see how things change as there was so much to see. Stocksbridge was a few minutes away and is well supported with shops and businesses although the fuel there is pricey. We found cheaper on our travels. The moors have little signposting so as to preserve the scenery, so a really good OS map is essential. There are some really beautiful villages to be discovered (and tearooms). There is a walk from the cottage which takes you down to the reservoir and as the walk is circular you end up back home.

The cottage was very good in every way and the owner very friendly and helpful.. The first two days were dominated by heavy snowfalls but the owner cleared a path so that I could get my car out of the drive. I enjoyed my week there and experienced many of the walks that the area provided.

November 2017
Beautiful cottage in a stunning location.. It has everything you need for a wonderful holiday. If, like us, you need the Internet then, unfortunately, this is the cottage’s one failing. The WiFi advertised was only available very intermittently and, as we were house hunting and needing maps etc, it meant we spent an awful amount of time in the nearby Fox Valley centre using their internet. If, however, you are looking to get away from it all in total comfort, then this is the right place to do just that, and we can highly recommend it.

Excellent property and location, the perfect bolt hole! Quiet, relaxing and has everything you need. Owners were lovely, and very helpful. Didn't want to leave, even tried to work out a date to return before we pulled out the gate.

I worked for British Steel down the fox valley in the 1970s so this was a bit of a nostalgia holiday. The cottage is in a lovely position with uninterrupted views overlooking the Langsett moors and Underbank reservoir . The lounge, bedroom and bathroom are all of a good size with 32" TVs in both the lounge and bedroom. The en suite bathroom has large shower cubicle plus good size bath and the water pressure is good and hot for showers and baths. Outside there is a pleasant seating area amidst a profusion of colourful plants with lovely views over the gardens and distant hills. Overall this is a we'll catered for cottage with everything a couple would need for a good holiday. The internet connection is a little hit and miss but we have yet to find a cottage in a rural area with good coverage. Terry, Meg and Willow ( the Welsh Springer). Formally of Barnsley now in retirement near Filey.

Who would go to Barnsley for a holiday? With accommodation like this, anyone might. The cottage was immaculate and comfortable, and the location a hidden gem. With a little internet research you can find lots of good walking in the neighborhood, through fields and woodland to open moor. In less than an hour's drive you can be in pretty much any tourist destination in the northern end of the Peak District, from Bakewell to Edale. This means you can have a national park vacation at a fraction of the cost of renting inside the Park. The cottage was ideal for us to attend a nearby wedding and make family visits in South Yorkshire as well as providing a cozy base for a country vacation.

We stayed here a few years ago in the winter and we were very comfortable. Our second stay in spring was just as good as the first. Outside was a riot of spring colour and was beautiful, plenty of pots and troughs and borders packed with plants. The scones, jam etc was a nice touch and we enjoyed them after a long journey. Though the cottage is small it has everything you need and is a great base to stay. It has comfortable furnishings and a nice big bed and shower cubicle. We parked the car for 3 days and walked the local area as there are many nearby which we managed despite the weather. The Stockbridge walking website has lots of walks that are printable with very good directions. Our only downside this time was the the internet was very erratic and not available a lot of the time but as we were there only 3 days it was not a major problem but we did report it before we left.

We couldn't have been happier with our week at Underbank Hall Cottage. It has been finished to the highest standards and comes with everything you might need. The kitchen and bathroom are finished extremely well. The bathroom has a very deep soaker tub and a large separate shower unit with excellent water pressure. This really is a prime property and we will undoubtedly be back.

My girlfriend and I needed a break from the London area and so booked a week at Underbank Hall Cottage from a Friday to a Friday. We drove up on the Friday night and only arrived at about midnight to find a beautiful stone cottage wonderfully appointed. There were fresh scones with butter and home-made jam and a tea tray laid out for us. We forwent those and cracked open a bottle of wine, turned on the electric 'wood-burning' stove and allowed the peacefulness to wash over us. The following day, after a night spent in a very comfortable bed, we got to explore the cottage. It has everything that one could want: fitted kitchen with fridge (and small freezer shelf), dishwasher, quality matching crockery, glasses and flatware, microwave, gas cooker, washer/dryer combo. All of this in a lovely downstairs room. Upstairs is a huge bedroom with armoire with real hangers and a fantastic bathroom with deep tub and a huge separate shower unit with great pressure. We met the owner who said we were younger than most of her guests (we are mid 40s) and she invited us to wander the grounds which are manicured and beautiful. The cottage is next to the main house but you wouldn't know it and we felt completely alone and peaceful. We really couldn't be happier with our choice. We visited Stocksbridge once and found it a bit dismal but Penistone is about 3 miles in the other direction and is a delightful village with a lovely bistro (with great vegetarian options) and a couple of nice pubs. Ye Olde Mustard Pot is also recommended. There was nothing not to like about this place. Very highly recommended.

Just spent 3 nights in this lovely cottage, it was wonderful waking up to nothing but bird song. The cottage had everything we needed and more, it was extremely warm and welcoming. The garden was awash with snowdrops, would love to see the garden in the summer. I'm sure we will return.

This is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in. Although we went at the coldest time of the year the cottage was very warm. The furnishings, kitchen equipment and all facilities were to a very high standard and the tasteful, neutral décor made us feel immediately at home. Beautiful views and lovely walks - would highly recommend. Thank you for a wonderful much needed break.

I have just returned from a wonderful stay at Underbank Cottage. The cottage is situated in the beautiful grounds of Underbank Hall, which features a walled garden and woodland along with beautifully tended lawns and flowerbeds. The cottage is delightfully furnished and well equipped with everything you may need during your stay. Car parking is just a few yards away. The owners had even provided scones and jam and a vase of sweet peas for our arrival. The area is lovely with lots of stunning views and lots of reservoirs and countryside nearby providing scenic walks. I absolutely loved this cottage and will definitely be returning.

July 2012
We had a wonderful week in this amazing cottage. Since previous reviews mentioned the cottage was right next to the hall, I did not expect the location to be this perfect. We were speechless when we entered the driveway, and the interiours did NOT dissappoint us. Well equipped kitchen, indeed best bed ever, perfect shower and those views... Highly recommended!

January 2012
owners very helpful and told me all about the history of the hall, very interesting. Cottage was very high standard and exceptionally comfortable. I've never slept in a better bed!!! Ideal for doggie people - lovely walks from doorstep and only a few mins drive to a lovely reservoir walk. Worth taking a trip to Ladybower and Castleton too. Beautful views from patio area. Although cottage is right next to hall this was not a problem at all. All windows overlook gardens and views.

Underbank Hall is exactly as represented. A perfectly equipped, peaceful holiday cottage that is very well maintained, clean and in a pretty garden setting. Owners might live next door but they are utterly unobtrusive. The price was very reasonable. Great for a romantic getaway with good heating, comfortable bed and furnishings.

March 2011
The cottage is a beautiful stone building that abuts the owners' residence. We met the owners on arrival and bumped into them a few days into our week long stay, so privacy wasn't an issue. The cottage more than met our expectations. It was very clean, well appointed and warm. Views were beautiful from all of the windows. TV and wifi reception were excellent. We were unable to enjoy the local walks due to family reasons but from what we could see they would be more than enough reason to come to Underbank. Lovely, we'll be back - from Australia!

A fantastic relaxing week spent in a lovely cottage that was well decorated and well equiped for your every day needs. On arrival we was shocked to find the cottage was next door to the main house, but this in no way took away our privacy. The owners were so helpfull with local knowledge. The area there is so unspoilt with many beautiful walks and quiant pubs.
