The village of Lewannick is quiet, and, being away from the bustle of the more touristy places in Cornwall, gives a tranquil location from which there is easy access to both north and south coasts, Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor (don't tell the Cornishmen you crossed the Tamar, though!) and lots of quieter attractions that are just as worth seeing as the more famous villages etc. (Go to the mines around Minions on a foggy wet day for real atmosphere!) There is a great pub in the village. No frills. Obviously a local to the locals, but welcoming of guests too, and serving good quality, straightforward food, well-kept ales and a pool table and dartboard if you fancy a game. There is also a brilliant little village shop which stocks pretty much everything.
The house itself is easy to find and access. Despite the other review on here (reading the reply, there may be issues with that!) it was spotlessly clean, with fresh linen on all the beds, good quality towels, a really well-stocked kitchen (and I mean *really* well-stocked - the knives were sharp, the cooker is a double oven range style one, and I have never seen a holiday cottage with one non-stick, perforated pie dish, let alone three), a fabulous games rooms with a table that easily converts from pool to air hockey to table tennis and a dartboard too. Amazing for wet days with teenagers. The rooms are spacious, gloriously high-ceilinged and having a large separate dining room for family meals and indoor games was a real bonus. The convervatory is clean and handy as a place to get away from the more raucous teenage games. The garden is small, neat, and with separate dog poo bin provided. As we don't have a dog, I can't comment on the security of the back fence. A small patio with BBQ provided was a great way to spend sunnier evenings.
The bath and shower, in a spacious bathroom, are a little tight for space, and being of the larger shape (I'm 6'7 and, shall we just say, "over 120kg") I struggled there a bit, but the more normal members of the family were fine in there. It is hardly fair to blame the owners for my own vital statistics :)
All-in-all, I would rate this cottage highly, and would definitely go back again.
