We spent New Year at the Old Byre. What an amazing place. New Year is a difficult time for our family after loosing our Mam, so to be able to have the peace and tranquility in perfect surroundings was idyllic. The Old Byre is clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you need. A visit to the Sanford Arms is a must. I've tried to book for the oncoming New Yesr but it's fully booked. But I will most definitely return.

This was my second time at The Old Byre and definitely won’t be my last. Everything is to the highest standard. The local area is beautiful with so much to do. We will definitely be back time and time again.

We have just got back from a weekend at the Old Byre and we are already planning to go back! We went as a group of friends but it would also be ideal for families. The cottage is charming with high, beamed ceilings and original features. The three bedrooms are much larger than we expected. The living area is cosy with nice comfy sofas and a large dining table. Kitchen very well equipped with what looks like a brand new range cooker. There is a hallway between the two downstairs bedrooms and the living area so noise doesn’t travel to the bedrooms, if for instance you wanted to put children to bed but then watch tv in the lounge. There are lots of nice touches and attention to detail that make it feel homely and everything was spotlessly clean. There is a nice pub that serves food in walking distance, but Appleby is only a short drive away. I would highly recommend this cottage and will definitely be returning.

The Old Byre was a well equipped, spacious clean place.. It was in a small quaint village where the locals were friend and helpful. We will definitely come back to the Old Byre again. There was alot to do for for our children aged 2 and 6 in the surrounding towns and some beautiful walks for our dog too. We have used cottages a few times where the owners have placed stipulations where we have to clean the cottage upon departure as well as other rules which has put added stress on to our stay. This was not the case with the Old Byre, the owners seemed laid back in their information booklet and provided fantastic information and guidance on where to go and what to do in the surrounding areas. If you are looking within this area we would definitely recommend the Old Byre a home away from home!

It was better than we expected - much more space than we imagined.. Sometimes photos can make a place look bigger - exactly the opposite in this case. Also the pub in the hamlet was a complete surprise - brilliant.

This is the first time the family have stayed in a cottage.. We weren't disappointed, home from home. If its just a peaceful holiday its ideal but if you need to be entertained wrong location as you will have to travel. The pub about 5 mins walk is very welcoming and serves lovely meals, but for any kind of activity non provided as like darts sports t v pool or music.

Having stayed at the Byre many times, my stay in July was yet again perfection! A beautiful property in a stunning location! An ideal place for those wanting to visit the lakes and surrounding areas. Can't wait to return!

Great cottage, only let down by the really uncomfortable bed which caused daily back aches.. A little more thought could go into the furniture positioning etc. For example dressing table nowhere near a plug socket for a hairdryer. It has no garden for dogs to run in but there's a very quiet lane next to the cottage. Well equipped though and in a very handy spot for the Lakes and the Dales.

The Byre is a perfect cottage to relax and do nothing, it's cosy, comfortable, and spotless, or if your feeling like a good walk with Amazing views then you have come to the right place, highly recommend this place, wouldn't come to this neck of woods without staying here

We really enjoyed our stay at The Old Byrne, which is in a tranquil spot near Appleby, which is definitely worth a visit.Sandford itself has the advantage of a great local pub, which serves food and has a darts board. The only reason I can't give this five stars was that there were air fresheners everywhere which I don't like and in our large downstairs bedroom, I suspect they were masking a slightly doggy spell.

Lovely village, great accommodation and superbly located for holiday exploration. Suitable for all ages, I have two boys aged 4 and 12 who loved the area (particularly Mambo the parrot). Highly recommended for a quiet family break.

Myself, my husband, our 3 boys and dog stayed at The Old Byre and had a wonderful holiday. The location was perfect and the cottage was a home from home with clear directions and key collection instructions sent prior to stay.

Second visit to The Old Byre. Spacious, nice and warm - especially with the log burner. Private and peaceful village location, friendly locals, cottage full of character and an excellent c/h system and power shower. Central for both N Lakes and N Pennines. Bit basic on kitchen utensils but all there. Will go again!

A great place for the snow Easter break this year. Everything was well presented, of good quality and an ideal for exploring the Eden valley, North Lakes and the Howgills. We had to forage for timber to burn on the log burner as the previous visitors had used all the supplies. Recycling advice needs to be revised into a concise "what to put where" but otherwise a great place to stay.

We had a great time with you. The cottage was really very pretty and in an easy to reach location near enough to the main routes but nicely just off the beaten track. We can't fault our holiday. Thank you very much.

When we read some of the previous reviews there were issues regarding the cleanliness, this was immediatly dispelled when we arrived. The occomodation is naturally rustic but fully equipted, with the open plan Kitchen having everything you could possibly need, the bedrooms are huge and this would easily occomodate sleeping 6, with the smaller room downstairs being a childrens/teens room with 2 single beds and even a PS2. The village of Sandford is delightfully quiet, just what we wanted, ideal for walking the dog or going for an early evening stroll down the lanes. We ate in the Sandford arms a couple of times,Food is excellent although its more aimed at being a restaurant than a village pub, which in present times is understandable. There are also delightful pubs in nearby appleby which is only 10/15 mins away by car. We used this as a base to explore the lakes and the Yorkshire Dales, travel to which is a maximum of about an hour away by car,but to be honest the scenery is so nice its a pleasure to travel. Also can recommend the Settle/Carlisle line for the scenery, travelled to Settle and back for the day, although the town itself is quite small. All in all we had an excellent stay and would recommend the Old Byre to anyone wanting a break away from the rat race.

Loved the cottage, absolutely stunning. Lovely surrounding countryside. Great pub a two minute walk. Would have been perfect except it had not been cleaned from previous guests so had to wash and dry all bedding and clean up on arrival. Despite two emails and a phone call we received no apology so regrettably will not be rebooking.

This cottage is in a lovely quiet area, it was very relaxing and peaceful. The cottage itself was lovely, we fell in love with the log fire- It made the cottage have a lovely warm and cosey feel. Their is not a lot to do around this cottage eg places to eat etc but as we went for a relaxing break with the dog it was great!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay... Complete with open fire and availability to bring my dog. The bathroom facilities were top of the range which doesn't sound much, but after a long walk the luxuorious bath was needed! I would say If either of the two electrical fly killers had been working this would have eliminated the fly problem and completed our stay.
