We were looking for a very quite and peaceful week, the The Generals Cottage gave us that.. It was easy to get out and about too. Loved all the single track roads with great views and the private road down to the cottage. Great walks. Just what we needed.

Really liked this out of the way cabin.. Everything we could need for our stay was provided including eggs and milk, and there were instructions for how to work the appliances as well as wood for the stove. It's picturesque, gorgeously remote and so beautiful we were overwhelmed. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The only tip we had was to share a Google maps pin to the location to help people navigate their way there - although the directions were helpful we still got hopelessly lost at least twice on the way there, but once we located the place and used the dropped pin on Google maps, it was easy to find.

Location: it is really very secluded and remote, lovely for those who like this! (we did :-)) Just a note to those who tend to rely on satnav: the postal code does not lead you to the cottage, you need to carry on a bit further down the road/track. Owners: we were made to feel very welcome by Paula. It is clear that they tend to keep to themselves, but we certainly don't have a problem with that. Facilities: very comfy beds! Sitting/dining room is on the small side but no problem for two occupants. Wifi was a bit on-and-off to start with, but then the owners installed a new connection/router and that was a lot better most of the time.

Lovely cottage, great location if you are looking for something fairly remote in the countryside.. The cottage is compact and cozy with a well-equipped kitchen, a small wood burning stove in the living area for nights in, and comfy bedrooms. Lovely walled garden with a brook in front of the cottage which guests are welcome to use. It is also 30 min walk to the two nearest pubs along lovely country lanes. Lots of other places and walks to visit in the area. Highly recommend for a short stay.

Part of the track leading to the cottage is very steep & narrow, with a rather severe speed bump, so we would not recommend the cottage to people of a nervous disposition or who have a low slung car! Otherwise it is a lovely cottage which we can fully recommend.

Visited August 2015. Approach was accessed down long deep pot-holed drive. Stone steps up to accommodation had no hand-rail - a must when steps wet, and outside-lighting dim so precarious to climb when arriving back at night. Lounge very small for 4 people.TV small with free=view box. Dining table in corner very difficult for 2 people to sit comfortably, let alone 4. 5 bar ceiling pendant in lounge with only 1 of 5 bulbs working, Welcome tray consisted of tea bags and vinegar sachets! Outside space very small - table for 2 under washing line/overlooking large green tank - little view and dark due to being in wooded area. Very remote and quiet. No flowers on table as depicted on web site - indeed no welcome except a reminder that you signed to leave the place in good order and the consequences of not doing so, in a typed sheet on the dining table! OK for 2 people for a long weekend, but the drive approach to the cottage was very, very poor. Wifi signal was good.

We seldom leave reviews, but thought it worth leaving this one as we loved our stay. Lovely location in the valley with beautiful views from all the windows. Short drive to a good local pub and the cottage had all the things you need to make the stay relaxing & comfortable. Hosts were helpful and intrusive.
